The latest carrier gameplay meta. Parking planes over DDs to keep them perma-spotted.

Noticing this more and more. Carriers using diver bombers as scouts. Keeping them flying over my destroyer and lighting me up for the entire game. My AA is too weak to even scratch them. It's a nice idea and is probably the best use of dive bombers lol.

However, I wouldn't mind having some kind of anti air ability on my destroyer like the cruisers have.

Well you can do it with either DB or fighter. If there is enemy CV you will need the fighters, so only DBs are left :)

yeah happened to me. Just come closer to one of your BB/CA and they'll do the job. Sadly all this time he took you out of the battle have worked out for his team.

There is and there isn't. It all seems to add range to AA. Doesn't really benefit if the plane is already directly over me and seemingly taking zero damage from me.

There are two pieces of equipment and a tier 1 captain specialization that increases AA effectiveness iirc.

Turn off AA guns (P button) and release smoke? :sceptic:

I find that even even when inside smoke with AA off, planes within 2km can see you or at least keep track of you. They'll be there waiting when you leave the smoke.

Doesn't work that much, and if you leave your smoke the planes will pick you up again ( and the smoke will dissipate as well so effectively you're just hiding for a moment in which you're still no use for your team ).

yup, well I'm often stalked by fighters but its the same deal..and its a smart move from the enemy CV....provided he can risk the plane like that...because you can call in assistance from your own CV or allied CA's that are nearby

about AA, well you don't have a lot of AA guns, and only general 1 perk adds effectiveness boost of 10%..and:

practically nothing X 1.1= still practically nothing

Get with the times, they patched 1km of vision into smoke, even for planes.

were you spotted with fighters and not scout planes or bombers? I have many situations where I can't find DD in a small cloud even with 2 fighters. When the cloud is gone I see stopped DD just under my fighters, but it wasn't spotted back in the cloud when it was dense.

All planes can spot you, they need to be pretty close though (1km). AFIK all the planes are the same for spotting, like all the ships.

Probably another reason that planes should have a fuel gauge. Or just massively buff short range (~1km) AA on all ships. Planes shouldn't be loitering right above any ship.

Seems like either wrong info, or the change is not effective.

I can still hide in my smoke, even with planes right above me, without being detected. (US DD).

Do you have extra skills to aid in stealth, and do you have situational awareness to you're sure you're not detected?

It's very possible to park fighters above a fully upgraded and skilled AA destroyer like the Mutsuki in a same tier CV without losing DB or fighters at an near alarming rate.

Honestly, I have no idea why they implemented the AA upgrade on destroyers if it's only mildly effective over long periods of time. If the guns weren't useless on the Mutsuki It would be a hard trade off.

Hatsuharu doesn't lose many guns for it's AA upgrade but then again Hatsuharu has a hard time not being spotted compared to the rest of the IJN destroyers. The AA upgrade however is once again mildly effective even when a fighter is right on top of you. A bit ridiculous. Minekaze, Isokaze and such all have basically no AA but how better torpedo reload times but due to how unimpressive the AA on mutsuki is effectively Minekaze still outshines her like a brilliant star outshines the moon at day.

Kagero and Fubuki have some decent (for a DD) short range AA. You need to trade a turret and, in the case of Bucky, half of your RoF for it though.

My comamnder is trained in Situation Awareness, hence I know exactly when spotted.

No training in Consealment Expertise, yet.

my carrier does it all the time just stick a air group over the dd it gets splattered by cruisers and battleships easy.

when playing destroyers at 4 km from air in my direction i smoke and p to avoid being spotted dosent allways work.

ive had loads of carrier players whining that once the enemy carrier is sunk his fighters cant do nowt they need to learn the love of spotting/ team play
