There seems to be a graphical bug on the map at quadrant E2.  A piece of the mountain sticks out and you can sail right through it.  Firing from within doesn't seem to work, but you cant be detected inside either.  I popped out of there on more then 1 occassion to test it and a few times I ended up within 3km of an enemy ship.

Not good, not good at all.

 

The space graphics are an annoyance, apart from that it's just the usual random battle.

hard to see crap , 'the sea' is to transparent

 

when in map-mode i cant see my boat (when nebula is underneath)

 

smoke is useless - no cover

I've no idea what has happened to the CV controls as I do not often play a CV, but I do not seem to be able to easily target a ship as my planes just go to the location, rather than attack.

 

The map mode the nebula is just a right pain in the neck and more importantly the eyes, which is where you sit for most of the game if you are operating a CV. After just 2 games I have a splitting headache, and most likely I would end up with a migraine if I played much more. So I will not be playing that again.

Sounds are great but way to much noise. Music is bad 1st 10 minutes, then ears start to bleed. Course and speed of target is really difficult to figure out, at least to me. Islands are difficult to see and in general too much chaos. Maybe some slow play ships could help....
Overall, I'm sad to say, not an enjoyable experience, maybe young players will enjoy this  MDMA/LSD-TechnoProgressive gameplay,  I'm too old for this.

It works as one shot battle. It's not easy to distinguish ships from background and scenario and graphics. Not easy to enjoy all the ships movements

But it works.

'Space Battles' are just Randoms with a gimmick. Like all gimmicks, the novelty will wear off quickly. A few points;

1) How is it possible for a ship to burn in the vacuum of space? 'Sinking' in space is also difficult to get my head around.

2) Space is a 3D environment (3 directional, thanks, Prof Hawkins) so why are the ships confined to a 2D plane? Perhaps 'Warplanes' would be a better basis for this mode. Star Wars has taught us that in space a Laser blast can come from any direction, and these spaceships are unprotected from below.

3) In space, no-one can hear you banging your head against the screen. Being an older player, I find it hard to see the targets.

4) There is a very terrestrial feel to the artillery. Surely spaceships would fight with energy weapons? Lasers, or whatever.

WG has obviously put a lot of work into Space Battles, and the visuals are great, but a bit more thought about how things would work in space would make it so much better. The supply ship for receiving containers is brilliant, and well thought through. Perhaps it could lead to a whole new game/title for the ever growing WG stable?

Yeah, well maybe....

 

Once of gimmick - why not? BUT please don't make any campaign, mission chain around it - as it is going to be painful and frustrating.

 

There are a few issues which makes it not so enjoyable to replay:

 

1. "Water line" is so blurred, that it is really difficult to aim for citadel

2. Sounds effects are interesting, but after a few battles they just are too annoying, like a sounds from 80's arcade game

3. "Smoke" is just badly done. 

4. Graphics are also way too distracting and tbh a bit tacky. 

 

What is good about it - hey it is 1st of April, so some humor is good. Great graphics for meteor shower - looks really cool.

 

All in all - nice - BUT PLEASE DO NOT MAKE US REPLAY for some missions or campaigns.

Ladies and Gentlemen of WG, well done on bringing new aspects and 'novelty' features to the game, such as this one.

 

I'm sorry to say that I agree with a lot of what has been said above. Because the sea is transparent, features are visible above and below the level of play. A lot of the rocks/asteroids are glowing red, there are meteor showers and so on - it is incredibly difficult to make out the ships against such a background. I've tried playing a couple of times, but find that only after getting a clue from the mini-map am I able to discern a ship against all the colours and features. I've given up doing any more testing of the space battles, though I will still go in the test server to try out normal ships and various commander skill combinations.

 

Once again, you are to be congratulated for your efforts in keeping the game alive, interesting and varied. Unfortunately, in this instance it is not very successful, in my opinion. :Smile_Default:

Looks nice,  plays like a normal T10 random game. Go push and you will be punished. No thanks, was hoping for a space-operation. :fish_panic:

I have to agree with above comments on this mode. Best if you don't force us to play this when it appears by linking anything important to win on it, as it's just a pain to play. Halloween was great, this just ain't.

As a "Theme" I think that Space Battles are fun. The Visuals are awesome, the Ship's details outstanding. Also, a great Arcade game feel. To me it feels nothing like the usual Random Battles/Grind fest of the main stream WOWS and is refreshingly different, but still using the same game mechanics.

 

I would say as others have, Please keep this a FUN MODE and not a grindy serious campaign like Gold of France / Aigle Marathon etc..

 

I guess the real popoularity of this mode will not be known until it goes live. I for one would enjoy playing it

Played other few battles: setting high contrast it's better for playing. Quite enjoyable. Maybe you should give some more reflections to ships so they are a little more visible on the dark background around.

The very annoying detail are those bright red lava kind of effects in the Meteorites or planets that mess up the sea, the grid and the mini map.

 

One thing I suggest: Ok for the famous Tron style grid, but what about to get rid of it, at least in the Second Part of the PT or in a patch now to get feedback from us?

 

Love the sound thou, especially the Collision one! Great! And torps one too!

As a "Theme" I think that Space Battles are very nice , But need to add Torbid  to Cruiser & need to remove the sea from sky & shot Gun should like lazer

Really it does not feel like something new. Maybe must change the gameplay not just the look of the ships and map. Really cool surroundings but add something additional than meteor shower. The shells must be somehow different because in the space with original shells... set some effects on them and it will be fine. I suggest for future event you can take us back to the time of Egyptians and make no guns on teh old ships but people with arrows .. the same mechanism as firing with guns but with fire arrows and fire extinguishers to be buckets of water and so on.. this will be more different than the original battles. That is how you must develop the space battles. At least that is my opinion. Good luck and fair seas.

Looks great at first sight, but is very tiring for the eyes after some minutes. 

As it is basically only a random tier X battle for all, the usual problems arise (BBs strong, DDs clueless) and kill much of the fun. 

The missing in-game explanations for meteor shower and psy field will make playing this mode for most players very unpleasant imo.

And is there some way to estimate the target speed? Funnel flames seem to be the same for every speed setting.

 

Compared to the really entertaining bath tub battles this mode sadly does not shine.

Make the grid on the map either more transparent or optional. Or just remove it along torpedo indicator. That would be fun.

 

Also make ships more diverse. Faster destroyers, tankier battleships (with short range but very effective weapons), cruisers more versatile, planes more efficient against battleships and cv's and useless against destroyers and cruisers. You know. Like in any other space game... You have the opportunity to test any idea you want. Experiment. Go wild and creative.

Guys, you've made new Master of Orion. How difficult it is to incorporate ideas present in the genre for decades...

It still can, if WG breaks all conventions existing in regular game.

So far I am enjoying the mayhem called space battle mode. It's pretty crazy and entertaining. There are two issues though:

 

1) there needs to be more (maybe just more obvious) information about the storm effect.

2) the waterline must be visible (which is pretty much not the case right now)

I really loved everything about the new patch and event. Then i played cv. I have over 2k CV matches. It was the worst experience ever and this is not an exaggeration. The interface did its own thing - no hints, no indicators why but there were permanent waypoints for planes that could not be removed and were ignored by some of the planes, yet not by others. On top of that planes just died. On their own. Right after launching. Its a horrid mess.

Your carrier might have been in a meteor shower, which has the effect of killing an aircraft every 15 seconds they remain in it.

Yeah, i checked that in the match after. I'm not sure though. It seems to me that the area shown on the map and the area where your planes randomly die, are connected but have different sizes. So you see an area on the map but your planes die in some places when they get near it (not into it!). Then again, it could all work but the planes went into the area but were displayed wrong. Wouldn't be the first time that happened either. That wandering no-fly zone is a bad idea anyway. With the constant and massive aa buffs the areas where planes can go are already very limited.

 

edit: Just to reiterate it: I really love the new looks and the events graphics and sound are totally awesome. But since the interface got messed up further which affects cvs massively (not to mention the new no-fly zones), i  would rate the event very badly.

Very difficult to see things, aim etc. and doesn't make sense at all.

Art and music are nice but otherwise it is very poorly implemented.

 

It is unfortunate though that resources are spend on such a crap mode when many things in the game are broken:

 

- CVs are broken

- ballistics is broken

- shitweather simulator

- TVIII matchmaking
