It´s not only the Problem of English speaking Guys, the Problem comes overall... if you get insulted in English you "maybe" understand it, but since Warships contains more then one Nation (dont take that to Personal now) you figure out very fast, there are more Languages... sadly... (thats the Reason why i wrote in some Feedback of the Support-Tickets, they maybe should add a Racism Option in there, because there are some "Specialists" out there... who Think its cool choose this Kind of Insults. And Guess how often i get called [edited]... because im a Carrier Player. In the Meantime, i tend to ignore it (or at least try)

but on some Things, you cant. Especially what Exocet said about using the Word "Cancer" itself if yourself are involved or other People you know, love or like.... sometimes if im bored i answer with my Starsign...Sorry im not Cancer, im Scorpio. @Tanatoy wasnt there some kind of a Badwork Filter in Closed Beta? Even the lack of Moderators in the PortChat... at the Moment it feels to be friendly again, but there are other Times... and the BadWord Filtern, well, maybe you "could" try to implant one... there is a Badword Filter in the Aslains Pack but... its only working (says in Description for the ASIA Client) not sure...how ever... the Main Problem could be there are thousands of Players in different Countries, Languages, sitting behind their PCs and think they cant be caught... Also... well... somebody knows that the "Chatban" by the Support lasts almost 7 Days... its a bit less, depending on what kind of Insults the Ticket was... if you ask me personaly about Racist Insults, they should be banned 1 Month and flagged like a forbidden Modpack - if they dont agree with the Rules, 3 Months and half a Year until they learn it... (Sorry if there are any Errors, because im German) but thats my personal opinion

@Exocet6951. Most of you here, are at least teenagers or adults, living in a society, where you simply can't call names people because you don't like the way they do things.

Oh mah gah, what kind of society is that? Ponyland or something? Because the last time I checked if you did something stupid - you were called stupid. Hell, sometimes if if you did everything right you got called out for no reason at all. Also (for the "do that in person" thing) - yeah, sure, just go and watch some Gordon Ramsey compilations. And respect is not given out for free - it's earned. Just like the opposite.

considering PC culture i think george carlin said it all about it. word retard like any other word is a word that describes something. using euphemisms to replace that word with something else is quite frankly stupid. how long will that euphemism that replaced any offensive word last until it is deemed equally offensive as original word and then replaced with another euphemism? iirc there were few cases like this in english language.

considering OP.. in last few sentences i said that i thought something was stupid. should stupid people be offended cause of that? can i use stupid in insults? where is the line?

Ok fine.

But does calling somebody "stupid" help the situation? Does calling somebody stupid made him less stupid? Or just tell him what, in your opinion should have been done will make him less stupid?

And for Gordon Ramsey, even if we touch a really touchy topic for me (cuisine) I don't think that insulting somebody have ever helped a situation, apart to release some steam for yourself, which is the exact case for him. Did it ever help the person that he was insulting ? No, I don't think so. His advice, yes, did.

And for respect, let's just say that we are not the same. I give the same amount of respect to anybody at the beginning, as I would for every human being. Then after, it decreases and increases depending of their acts.

PS : Ponyland is great though, you should really try it. (sorry I had to do it)

Oh, yes. Here's why: some hammers need to be dropped. If you don't tell the person that he fouled up, he'll just keep doing the same thing. Chewing someone up is verbal equivalent of getting burned - you wouldn't put your hand on fire twice, right?

Which reminds me of this '90s sort-of documentary series "kawaleria powietrzna" (air cavalry), it basically told the story of conscripts that were drafted into Polish air cavalry brigade. In one of the episodes, one of the lieutenants was asked why superiors swear so much; he answered with a story that basically went like this: one of his colleagues holding the same rank told him that he'll be different and that he'll never call his subordinates names. A few months later, the "no-swear" lt told him that it's just impossible, these morons just don't get the message, and he gave up. The interviewed lt concluded that, since conscripts are from different backgrounds, have varying levels of education - you aim for the lowest denominator.

And here's the really funny part: as a former shop clerk, I can totally confirm. Maybe I didn't swear much at customers (heh), but sarcasm, situational jokes, intelligent remarks? Some people wouldn't notice them, even if the aformentioned could stand on a counter, lower their pants and slap the dumbass in his face with their dongs. Yep, average Joe is as dumb as brick.

So, basically, the swear words actually do help in communication. Especially when you want (need) to make your message simple (maybe that's why the military KISS stands for "Keep It Simple, Stupid"). And I think that Gordon understands that as well.

Also: while even though English is the "universal" language, not everyone is fluent in it, however some swear words are either known even without much knowledge, or are common in more than one language (like an "idiot"). So, there you go, you can let someone half a globe away know that he screwed up big time without even knowing same languages.

While you may not like it, it's a fact that it WORKS.

Let's not forget that the "Iron Chef" persona is just that, a routine for the show. Why? Because it brings more audience in.

Also, because this thread is now in offtopic and this topic is in serious need of some humour:

Errrm, nope, that's exactly where the word comes from.

retarded: slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development : characterized by mental retardation

(after Merriam-Webster dictionary)

This is precisely why it is used as an insult, after all.

right...it comes from there, but in here it does not mean somebody has mental of physical problem...it means that called one is plan dumb

Hi

And for the use of "r*[edited]"... it's simply exactly the same thing. What if your brother, your sister, your kids maybe are simply born with a disability?

"i would, you know, i would drive him up to the country, then i will open the door and say, you're free, you know, you're free now"

Spoiler
