little bit disappointed with historical accuracy

USN Cleveland. Looks like pretty modern cruiser. At Tier VI. Made in 1943.. Then second cruiser in line Pensacola 1930??? Watched videos. Cleveland was tier VIII ship moved to tier VI downgraded. Then playing carriers. T4 IJN carrier detectability 8.x km. My Omaha simple cruiser has detectability of 13 km. Makes me wonder is it easier to spot a cruiser... or a carrier. I know it all has been done for the purpose of balancing the game. But historical accuracy is very big part of this game and this is a bit too much...

I think you should shelve your expectations on historical accuracy, for your own peace of mind, as there's little historical accuracy on all counts. Consider this as an arcadey game inspired by IRL ships...

Oh definitely love for her in her current state.

But ... I wonder ... dare I say hope for 8+ RPM on her (imagine: 10 rpm would be the dream).

Greetings

Bit faster shells? Cause that would help. I hope they keep the arcs. Love them.

Hosho

Length: 168,1 m

Omaha

Length: 169,3 m

One has a superstructure, 4 smokestacks and two tall masts.

The other has a single small mast and none of the rest.

hmm so that means Omaha is actually larger ship than Hosho? Strange. Hard to imagine planes taking off from cruiser. Really strange. Hard to believe.

Cleve was hit with the nerf bat hard at the end of CBT (both directly and indirectly). She used to be one of the most hilariously overpowered ships in the game, easily bullying even T10 ships with practiced ease. She's still fairly powerful, but that's nothing compared to what she was back then.

She has always been T6, though. It has afaik been planned from the beginning to keep her at T6 at first then move her up to T8 eventually with a line split.

hard to believe because a carrier MUST BE bigger than a cruiser???

you know that the first carriers has been converted from other ships, just putting decks on them...

just look at these images.. one is a cargo ship with a length of 399m

the other one is USS nimitz (a modern carrier) with a length of 332m

which one do you think is easier to spot..

PS: I gave modern examples to make it simpler..

This.

Game balance must always trump historical accuracy, or the game would quickly become unplayable.

http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Perth

Perth’s ability to equip either a Spotting Aircraft (While active, a spotter plane circles the ship providing enhanced main battery firing range.) or a Catapult Fighter (While active, a fighter plane circles the ship providing additional protection from enemy aircraft by engaging incoming fighters and bombers.)

:cap_book:

Edit: And for historical accuracy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_catapult

Subsequently, many RN ships carried a catapult and from one to four aircraft; battleships or battlecruisers like the HMS Prince of Wales carried four aircraft and HMS Rodney carried two, while smaller warships like the cruiser HMNZS Leander carried one.

(HMAS Perth is basically a modified Leander) ----> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Perth_(D29) "The ship carried an amphibious aircraft (initially a Supermarine Seagull V, later a Supermarine Walrus) on a catapult. "

(Love that ship! :fish_cute_2:)

As for historical accuracy, do you really want to escort my CV days long in your BB?

This game is arcade, with historical roots and sources, but had been balanced out due to playability. They never stated its a simulator. Be grateful for it, as it would be unenjoyable.

I checked from Wikipedia. Omaha is one meter longer than Hosho. Hosho was wider, though. Overall they were pretty close to being the same size.

Quite a few CV's were based on cruiser hulls but with the upper works replaced by flight decks.

It is the highest part of the ship that allows being spotted first (and spotting earlier) and the rangefinders/guns control of gun ships tended to be higher than the top of the bridge structure on CV's.

Early carriers were TINY. Also, with the ship doing 25 knots into a good wind a light biplane from those days could almost take off just standing on the deck with the engine going.

'Detectability' in game has no correlation to real life.

No. If it did, planes at high altitudes would probably be able to detect ships from further away than ships at sea level. :cap_yes:
