Got this baby today...

so far-a total disappointment...she`s a bigger Dunkerque but on tier VIII its a nightmare, while Normandie had speed AND punch to deliver, this ship has only speed, like a huge DD without torps. Burns like crazy, no armor at all...long reload, bad accuracy. As much as had fun on Normandie-this ship is completely waste of time...

Its too bad, but the way you describe your ship sounds like the only use it has for you is providing you credits by selling it.

I'm enjoying mine tho.  Finished mission today, played three games. Lost three.. but the ship performed well. I like the improved gun angles and functional bow armor over the Dunk, and the secondaries show potential. The ship seems equally adapt at kiting as it is for getting closer to let your secondaries help out. I'm till on the fence on how I should specialise my captain.

Every equal tiered BB burns the same...

If you bow tank and reverse, do not expect the enemy to miss many shots...

Is it me or the 152mm AA canons are useless? I mean I barrely saw them shoot at planes. Even comming from the side there should have been at least 1 turret shooting, but i feel there's nothing coming from those (unlike the 100mm that tries there best, but lacks range)

kinda working it out last few battles, it should be played as...battlecruiser, more in vein of Hood than other ships. Fast approach, shoot from distance, get out...

You know you can see the DPM values in game? AA guns arent effected by firing angles unlike main and secondary guns, so no use in thinking about where the guns are shooting from (even though the guns turn).

Anyways most of Richelieus AA lies in the 40mm bofors (3.5km range) and 20mm oerlikons (2km range) and those gets knocked out by HE easily so get aux armaments mod 1 and youll see more planes shot down.

Yeah in game AA is literally a bubble which can feel kind of stupid.

Like a DD can fire it's main guns at things but they're also contributing to the AA bubble quite often...

From playing quite a bit of Richelieu I'm finding her a poor man's Roma. And can be used in a very similar fashion but less armour.

Fairly high velocity penetration and shell speed but neither are as spectacular as Roma. Richelieu guns derp straight and true. :cap_haloween:

Tried using HE and have got acceptable results but I felt dirty after.

Playable but I doubt I'll be keeping her when I get to T9.

I'm wondering though, can Richelieu mount the Engine Boost Modification 1 upgrade?

Got one yesterday in a supercontainer, and was wondering if it'd be worthwhile to hang onto it while grinding my way up to it.

So far this is the ship with the most overpens aand bounces of any ship I`ve played.

I can go from having a 16k salvo to 6 straight overpen shots.

Just had a game with a broadside Rich at me. 2 overpens followed by a bounce.

Plus she likes to eat HE. A lot :Smile_trollface: unlike Roma

I like it so far. It has much less guns than the Lyon but for me the guns have been behaving more than on the Lyon. When angled it is also very durable and while the speed boost is a gimmick it atleast means that if you get locked in a bow on position moving forwards and backwards is atleast not a big problem.

If there is a complaint than it is the 32 mm plating that covers the entire ship, meaning you just eat shitloads of HE damage.

I'm slowly getting towards the point where I can with all certainty say that the Richelieu is a bad ship.

Just like the Dunkerque it has overpenetrating guns at short ranges, bad dispersion at long ranges (short too), and offers no incentive to play compared with ships like the Amagi, Bismarck, or North Carolina.

Sadly, to progress to T9 and beyond, I will have to grind the ship. But I will be certainly not keeping it or even advising anyone to keep it. It's just too inferior compared to other T8 ships.

It's a pity that WG can't balance French ships, because their BB line is just like the cruiser line all over the place.

I seriously like mine. It's better than the Monarch (then again, that is not difficult). I play it like an AP-Nelson.

I haven't played any of these ships but from playing against them and just generally at T8 I've found Richelieu to be a very dangerous opponent. When I've seen one in game it was not uncommon for it to carry quite well. My NC couldn't shift it bow on, cruisers and DDs I learned very quickly how dangerous its speed is for you, guns feel very solid on the receiving end. I want one, just too lazy to grind another line.

I too want one, partway through Lyon, but hope remains for a container with the magic message.

Trouble is, I wouldn't mind a new line if I cared about the ships in it, but the French BBs at T6 and 7 are hideous abominations and I have no interest in playing them just to grind Richelieu. I would sooner grind the Free XP and skip the line to T8.

I like Lyon. Looking forward to this as I'm one of those masochists that likes Dunkirk (and Pensa, and Aigle, etc...)

Late to the thread, just wanna say: I really liked my time on the Richelieu. She is indeed an upsized Dunkerque.... but I found her armor to be good, especially bow-on, solid secondaries with good range, good AA, excellent speed and agility - capable of outrunning / cathing up to most cruisers, and a decent main battery. An assault ship through and through, excelling at pushing forward and hunting down enemies. Well suited to lay ambushes with a bb where the enemy won't expect something that size.

It's only weakness in my opinion is the looming threat of losing half your firepower or even all of it if your 2 main turrets take too much damage. Other than that, I had a lot of fun and awesome moments and games with the Richelieu. And did I mention it's almost absurdly high firing range? Only Yamato has more range.

That Lyon is completely broken. In a "good" way ; Those 16 shell salvos will get everything rekt. I tought that the Colorado was insane regarding its firepower, but the Lyon is just something else. It was almost impossible to miss a salvo completely in it. Specially the DDs that I encoutered must have felt it, poor guys...

Now the Richelieu ; I've had only one round so far with it, but I got to shoot a fair amount of salvos and it felt to be more accurate than the Bismarck. So, it has the same amount of guns, but in the front end of the ship (ignoring the need to broadside), more accurate, same caliber shells that actually are hitting target(s). I would'nt consider it to be bad. Ofc I have to play a little more with it, but atm I just cannot agree it to be worst-in-tier.

Edit : And that "worst-in-tier" was not for you but in general to what I'm reading between the lines in this thread. And I'm strongly suggesting to you to take the Lyon out for a spin and give it a chance ; If they did'nt nerf it in the last patch, it should be able to make you smile. :)
