Why can there not be a filter that when certain words are use in chat that can get you an instant ban for a day or so and if repeated the ban gets longer??

Got called the N word yet again tonight, I think it is about time the Devs sorted it.

Because filters like that have a high error rate. And they are easy to bypass by simply changing one letter (1 instead of i for example).

Verbal abuse and toxic chat is part and parcel of online gaming and is at least half the fun of Wargaming's games.

Have you ever seen a successful word filter in an online game?

No?

Me neither.

Grow a thicker skin and ignore them. Also isn't muting players a thing?

Out of curiosity - was it Na... or Ni....? :cap_hmm: One wouldn't be nearly as typical for EU as it could be in NA, the other one shouldn't be offensive in the first place, it's like getting offended bcuz you were called a socialist :cap_haloween:

I have no problem with toxic language (and can give as good as I get) as an ex Matelot, so no problem there, but I do take a offence to deliberate  racial inferences (and it should  not be hard to put word filters in)

Yes, the Cryptic MMOs have one. Star Trek Online and so on...

Then use your "misbehavior in chat" report, it's there for a reason. That's your automated system right there.

And there are few things as pointless and stupid as word filters. Even more so in a game that's played by people who don't use English 100% of the time. Basically you get loads of

1. False positives - strings that are part of another word or a non-offensive word in another language that happens to coincide with a word deemed as offensive in English

2. False negatives - usually a *, a letter changed for some similar symbol, added or omitted

If someone wants to write the N-word "[edited]", it doesn't matter if there's a word filter (like there is on the Forum, as you see) because there's nothing to stop him from writing "niggher", "negher", "nlgger" or just settling for "negro" - and good luck filtering out (or worse, banning) everyone who dares to refer to the color black in Spanish...

orr you know. instead they could just put a filter in the chat for those words to censor them.

i mean we have them on the forum as well so why not.

Honestly I prefer freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech only applies when there are also consequences for such freedoms of speech being abused. Right now there are far too many people who abuse the ingame chat with every manner of unspeakable invective and not enough enforcement. Half of the stuff said online would earn the speakers a royal beat-up if they dared to say them in real life to someone in their face.

This.

90% of these online warriors would never dare to raise their voice in the real world and insult people like that, that is the trademark of the immature, insecure, frustrated little man who feels secure and strong behind his screen.

We all get angry, went our anger somewhere but usually the mature person does not feel inclined to insult people in chat or even send personal messages. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech this has something to do feeling the need to insult people from a safe distance. On the street or at a bar you also can not freely insult and abuse people without facing consequences so why do so in game? Ah yes because on the street you might get sued or earn yourself a punch to the face or both and it is so much safer to sit behind your desk securely at home and insult random people.

So next if you feel the urge to personally insult someone imagine he was sitting across the table!

If I only could have one superpower... Being able to teleport to the other side of the screen of that person who has gained the honor for being the target of my personal insults... it would be in top 10.

I played League for over 4 years, when people call some other game toxic... It's really not that bad, you know? :cap_haloween:

Nlgger: (had to replace the I for a l because the forum automatically changes it to "edited")

noun

1.Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive.

a contemptuous term used to refer to a black person.

a contemptuous term used to refer to a member of any dark-skinned people.

2. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. a contemptuous term used to refer to a person of any racial or ethnic origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc.

3. a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by black people; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised.

I don't see why this word it's worse than others. Seems it's SOO offensive that nobody dares to say it, instead saying the "N-word"

Hell, even there was a version of Huckle berry finn which replaces all Nlgger words with "robots" (it's called "robotic edition") because you know... that's too hurtful to teach to kids.
