[IDDQD] Quetak Players 2,098 posts 20,842 battles Report post #1 Posted November 30, 2017 Can someone explain why nearly same ships have so different profile? I mean why is gearing so much higher in water? Are deepwater torps so heavy weight or what - if its this case then I must point out that US soildiers are heavier than asians. Is WG planning to change Gearing to have at least similar height to Yueyang and not double?

[LAFIE] lafeel Beta Tester 5,380 posts 5,782 battles Report post #4 Posted November 30, 2017 You sir started out with a mistaken assumption. They are in fact not the same class. The Gearing is a Gearing class destroyer, the Yueyang is a Allen M. Sumner class. That is all.
[TORAZ] Aschwell Players 353 posts 9,248 battles Report post #5 Posted November 30, 2017 They are not 100% equal. Commander bridge is a bit different and also smoke stacks seem to not have the same length between.
[POMF] Verdius Beta Tester 1,989 posts 4,247 battles Report post #6 Posted November 30, 2017 Gearing class is basically a slightly bigger Allen M Sumner (Yueyang) class.

Edit: The detection of the ship usually compares with the height and to this date WG still represent that usually.
[CR33D] fumtu [CR33D] Players 3,025 posts 29,212 battles Report post #12 Posted November 30, 2017 Major visual difference between Allen M Sumner and Gearing is space between smoke stacks. Gearing model is quite old and maybe this is a reason and it will be lowered once/if WG decide to remodel all those older models in game. Or this could be done intentionally for more balance between Shima and Gearing when there was only two lines in the game. Hope WG fix this.

Simple, someone goofed and reprinted the same image for both classes. They're not quite THAT much alike in rl.

There were many versions from what I found and I guess you are not so old to rememeber how both really looked at 1945. Found another one with specifications: Draft 15feet 8 inches (4,8m) for Sumner / 14 feet for Gearing (4,3m).
