[SICK] Exocet6951 Weekend Tester 5,151 posts 11,809 battles Report post #2 Posted November 28, 2017 Well if they decided to change the name to something a bit more grand, like Charlemagne, I wouldn't mind at all quite on the contrary. But despite it being blunt and on the nose, "France" is both historical and not so bad. It could be worse.

44smok Players 4,367 posts 16,858 battles Report post #4 Posted November 28, 2017 France is perfectly in line with current practice of naming paper t10 BB after a ship from one of the classes represented on low tiers. And it's the best name out of those available, better than Paris for example. Besises most of the names in he poll are ahistorical. Champagne pffff.... Charlemagne was a much better choice for cruiser line.
creamgravy Players 2,780 posts 17,292 battles Report post #5 Posted November 28, 2017 'France' is too generic and boring. I'd go for 'Jeanne d'Arc', unless they're planning a French CV line or the 1930s CL premium. Maybe 'Verdun'?
SkyCarrot Players 1,023 posts 13,409 battles Report post #6 Posted November 28, 2017 "France" is the name of a passenger liner... I can't imagine a warship with that name... Edit : Well... It could be wayyy worst and it's a name of an invented ship...
Cosseria Players 1,064 posts 4,944 battles Report post #7 Posted November 28, 2017 France is nice, the only better alternative would be an epic battle like Poitiers, Austerlitz or Verdun. Please not Champagne, that would call for endless silly puns.
[BYOB] Aragathor Players 7,047 posts 32,322 battles Report post #8 Posted November 28, 2017 Let's look at the names of some historical French BBs. République-class: -République (Republic) -Patrie (Homeland) Liberté-class: -Liberté (Liberty) -Justice -Vérité (Truth) -Démocratie Courbet-Class: -Jean Bart -Courbet -Paris -France The name France for the tier 10 ship is very well chosen. It is a historical name that fits the naming conventions of the French republic. None of your proposed names has the same weight behind it as the name "France".

French have quite the number of ships named after Privateer too. Jean Bart and Duguay-Trouin for example. And who's more famous as a French Privateer than Robert Surcouf ? If he didn't also give his name for a DD class and for the first french submarine (and the biggest of the world at his time, I think only the I-400 did better before the introduction of nuclear submarines) I would have suggested it for the French tier X. It's a fictional class so some liberties can be afforded to the naming, and today's SSBNs are worthy successors to the BBs of old anyway. The name Redoutable also has BB pedigree from its ironclad namesake. For me Redoutable is the best name on the list above but personally I'd prefer to borrow from the incumbent SSBN class and go with 'Triomphant'. 'Terrible' could be a fun one though! [CAIN] Jethro_Grey Players 5,207 posts 25,733 battles Report post #15 Posted November 28, 2017 France, fine with me. My suggestion for a different name would be either "Now owned by ze Germans" (alternatively *Edited), or "Sank by the British allies". Also to to consider are Speedyfix, Voulez-vous Le Chicken Out, Le Grande Capitulation. From these six possible names i like *Edited and Le Grande Capitulation the most.

anonym_JSqwZct68BEw Players 209 posts Report post #19 Posted November 28, 2017 Alsace was a region of France before 2016. It wouldn't be totally illogical to name the biggest French BB after the biggest region (before 2016). I think that was Duché d'Aquitaine. So new name Duché d'Aquitaine of simple Aquitaine? But France is also good enough for me.

[LAFIE] lafeel Beta Tester 7,707 posts 7,856 battles Report post #21 Posted November 28, 2017 I see absolutely no reason to change it. France is a perfectly legitimate (and been used as such before) French battleship name, so let her keep that name.

Even we French abbreviate it as PACA.
[POMF] Verdius Beta Tester 1,989 posts 4,247 battles Report post #24 Posted November 29, 2017 While I don't think France sounds especially inspired for a ship name it at least has some historical precedent. Its not amazing but I guess it could have been worse. Charlemagne would have been a cool name, as would Voltaire. Murat would have been acceptable as well. I would have also accepted Gaston Spoiler
