[SCRUB] ClappingLollies Players 1,953 posts Report post #1 Posted November 9, 2017 I just had a T10 game where pretty much half the enemy team started to sail away to the border when they got shot at. This is pretty common these days so i asked: "Why are you running when you have pretty much full HP?" The answer from multiple of them was: "Game lost so saving repair costs". I mean. These players don't know that they can't do that anymore. It's been over a year (or two?) since that got patched. You have to inform your players on what is going on. Not everyone goes on the forums to catch up on the latest news. There are tons of basic info the casual player don't know about. You can't force them to the forums or make them read patch notes, so make a proper tutorial. It would make the game much better for everyone.

Ingame tutorial!! Have a few flags as a reward or something so they'll finish it.

No need to make rocket science out of a low tech solution Certain games do this, like Killing Floor 2. One example is the information on how to dodge a certain attack from a boss. Sadly, even with this plastered all over a loading screen, most people I have encountered did not know about this until I told them they could do that. If you want to make sure people know such things you really need to force them through a short and simple tutorial. Sure it takes a bit of effort and might piss off a few people but it will also lead to a lot of people becoming more pleased with the game as their success in the game increases(theoretically) because they have more information to utilize.

[CHEFT] DFens_666 Players 13,162 posts 11,029 battles Report post #10 Posted November 9, 2017 I thought about this too, and maybe the ship should just explode at the end of the map, atleast for the losing team, so maybe they realize it. Shouldnt affect stuff like dreadnought ofc, but just as a "see what happens"... btw every time ive been talking about this ingame, there was atleast one guy who didnt know it. or another solution (just came to my mind again) instead of showing the credits on the first screen, show them if they lost something or if they actually earned credits, why hide it in the last stat page? [T-N-T] Toivia Players 4,019 posts 23,935 battles Report post #11 Posted November 10, 2017 That is one information WG definitely should put somewhere visible while starting games or the client. Many people really have no clue about that and that's not necessarily because they're not "current" on the tweaks and changes, but because they never looked at any of that. They just intuitively believe that the price they pay (called perhaps a bit inappropriately "repair") depends on the damage they take, it kinda makes sense.

The charm of youth, idealism and innocence! Hhehehe! Let me tell you an enlightening story...: A few years back I was working in South-East Asia, we specifically hired people, with good Engrish language skills to alleviate possible communications problems. Then one day, I was holding a 4 hour training for our personnel to make sure they are in the loop about some changes we were going to make in the standard practice (quite simple ones, to be sure, but high impact). This was to take place immediately, as the current flawed practices were causing frequent issues. So having explained everything in detail, handed out written step-by-step instructions and having received personal assurances from all teams that this was going to be a cinch. Satisfied - I left for an hour to take my lunch and to let the changes take effect before the next inspection... Guess what? Sure as h*ll, when I got back all the new handouts had been neatly stacked back on my table and all was STILL being done exactly, as before (so a*sbackwards) - Including the subsequent sub-par results... I obviously blew a kilter immediately, told them to stop everything and called all the teams back to the drawing board to gently inquire why the H*LL were we still doing that sh*t when we had just an hour before agreed otherwise? Well, it turns out the reason was, that they had in fact not fully (or at all) understood ANY of the stuff I had just explained and so had resorted to just nodding their heads and saying "Yes", whenever I had asked them any question to confirm if they had understood what needed to be done. So... We were forced to hold yet another 3 days of mandatory drills, before the message got through to everyone and even then I'm not quite sure. Point being, 99% of the people you are trying to tell anything to, is not going to be paying any attention on what you are saying, well unless you're peddling porn or something. So all anyone can do is to make a reasonable effort and then hope for the best ...

By mounting this set of flags on your ship, your repair costs after the battle will be 10% lower. I am all for educating players. To educate this i would show the actual gain/loss on the first site of the results or (even better) the gains like now the costs under it with a big fat minus and then the actual gain/loss. Some ppl may wonder why the costs never change as long as they don't change the setup......
[SICK] Exocet6951 Weekend Tester 5,151 posts 11,809 battles Report post #20 Posted November 10, 2017 Alright boys, story time! I work in jewelry, and part of my job is to deal with some customer service during the Christmas season, when all the crazies come out. Two stories: The first one was a man who ordered a neat little necklace with a hanging chain. I looked at it in person, it looked perfectly made. Two days later, the man sends a furious email that we're frauds who robbed him by selling him a defective product with a bent chain. He was going to report us to the police and whatnot. He sends it back after some calming down, so I open the box, and lo and behold, the chain had rotated slightly on itself during shipping. I rotated it the half turn in the other direction, and it was perfect again. He wanted to hear nothing of it, to him we were frauds and he wanted his money back. A week later, someone trying to buy a bracelet for his wife legitimately asked me over the phone if the centimeters on a ruler were the same as the centimeters on his workbench. No joke. Morale of the story: people are stupid and don't care. They get one thing in their heads, and stick with it despite being shown overwhelming evidence of the contrary.

Same conclusions both from my clan experience back in the day when I was playing World of Tanks and IT support experiences. On former, there was idea of "tutoring" less experienced players in clan. From 100+ people interested to listen were 2. TWO. And they quit after 3 days anyway. And in IT department... well, people refuse to comply with idea of at least trying to explain what happened instead "computer doesn't work". Yea, if its turned off, it would be rather hard to make it work Not mentioning notorious "what is login?"

[HABIT] Tungstonid Beta Tester 1,568 posts Report post #23 Posted November 10, 2017 I once had a clan member back in WoT who was raging in every battle via teamspeak like this: "I can't pen anything, they (WG) must have built in something. I didn't hit the enemy, they must have built in something. I died, they must have built in something." Everytime something bad happened to him he seriously thought that WG changed the game code just to annoy him. While it was funny in the beginning, at some point it got frustrating because I and other players tried to give him tipps and explain the problems to him but he just won't listen. And he wasn't even some 12 year old kid but a man in his fifties. But I can also confirm the story of Panocek because I have experienced similar things. Offer a tutor class or practice to 50 people who need it to improve. 90% won't care and the rest will quit after the first sessions.
