When does this campain come to EU server? Perhaps some of us, in EU, would like to help save one of the last battleships?

14” Guns. Two World Wars. The last of the Dreadnoughts is in danger!

USS Texas is flooding after damage from recent hurricanes -- keep her afloat through Wargaming’s Project VALOR (Veterans And Loved Ones Responsibility) Campaign!

About USS Texas | Bundles and Mission | Direct Donation

USS Texas was one of the most powerful battleships in the world when she launched in 1914, and was credited with testing advances in gunnery, naval aviation, and radar. She was still fighting hard in 1944, supporting the Normandy Landings with her 14” guns. Nine days later, Allied forces pushed far enough inland to be at the edge of Texas’ gun range, but still needed her guns for tough targets, so again the call for fire support came in. Captain Charlie Baker ordered the battleship’s starboard torpedo blisters flooded, to raise the guns a crucial two degrees.

Texas answered to the tune of 24 massive shells, and by the end of the war, earned five battle stars. Today, she’s preserved by the Battleship Texas Foundation as a museum and national historic landmark -- a fitting fate for the final battleship from the dreadnought era, and the only remaining capital ship to serve and protect her country and its soldiers in both World Wars.

Today, Texas is flooding again, this time under attack by the elements. The ship suffers constant leaks averaging over 300 tons of water per day, leading to significant erosion and deterioration that will eventually be irreparable. A team of historians, engineers and preservationists are attempting to move her to land before it’s too late.

It’s up to us to protect her.

It's a good question, I can bet a lot of people here wouldn't mind supporting the ship through a premium purchase.

It would certainly be a great shame if the Texas wasn't preserved; it's borderline criminal that we (the British) scrapped the Warspite, from a similar era...

I'd be happy to contribute, if the offer comes to the EU.

And here's a shock for the EU staff and moderators - there are actually some Americans serving here in Europe that play on the EU servers!

Even as someone with no real investment with the USS Texas and quite possibly never having the chance to visit the ship, I wouldn't mind buying a small bundle or whatnot if all of that it goes towards preservation efforts.

Besides, the ship being present as a premium for all servers and not just the US one it would make little sense to limit the effort to just the NA server unless some BS laws are messing with the other regions.

I don't understand why they keep fixing the unfixable with cheap patches. They're obviously never going to drive it anymore, so they should maybe ask the government for a larger one-time payment to solve the problem for the next century.

  • Possible solution (what I would do): Construct a giant concrete wall around the ship, then pump it dry (like a dry-dock) and then fill it with some non-corrosive soil, or something, to make it look better.

And it's as simple as that.

Imho we Europeans really have ignored our naval history, UK who once had the biggest fleet in the world has scrapped all her historical capital ships, France- same, we in Sweden had some big gun....ish (28 cm) ships who we all scrapped, Germany had all her ships sunk, Italy's capital shis were given out amongst the allies and sunk or scrapped. There is just not many of these ships left in the world. I just hope we'll get the opportunity to chip (ship?) in a few Euros to help keep the few who remain away from the scrappers.

Most likely because they never had enough money for a permanent fix. And you can forget the government putting up large amounts of cash.

I'd rather fund SerB's space programme.

At least the Japanese were smart enough to encase the Mikasa in concrete; something the murikans have yet to discover it seems.

The USS Texas dryberth project has been on the table for over 10 years now, but they always lacked the funding to go through with it. As far as I understood, the ship needs major structural repairs before this is even possible. But to make the kind of repairs the Texas needs, you need dry access to the outer hull which is just not possible right now. All these guys can do is patch holes, pump out water, prolong the ships' life and pray for a miracle that somehow alot of money gets pumped into saving this ship before its too late.

As far as its financial situation, the USS Texas is owned by the state of Texas, which means that the vast majority of money spend on the ship is paid by the state. Interviews around august this year highlighting the Texas' poor state mentioned that the state of Texas already spend over 68 million dollars on her, while the dry berthing project is estimated at another 40-50 millions dollars. So just for a second, imagine how many Texas premiums and other bundles WG would have to sell to have any significant impact on actually saving this ship. So while this event and other fundraisers for the USS Texas may throw some goodwill money towards the guys keeping the ship in the best way as they can, its up to the state of Texas to pass the legislation to really commit their money and save this ship. Untill then, all you can donate for is some more patches and some more water pumps. And thats not going to be enough to save the Texas.

I really hope the state of Texas comes around for this ship.

thing is, putting her in dry dock in her current state would destroy her. Right now even tho the water is the worst enemy, it is also the only thing giving the hull enough support to stay together. They neew to fix the engine mounts before they can do anything. Perhaps figure out a way to take the engines out completely.

I would love for this to come to EU server. These ships are something that need to be kept preserved.

If they are ever able to get her out of the water. Giving her the same treatment as the Mikasa would be ideal.

Even worse, In the 1970’s the Turkish governement offered to give back (maybe not free) the battlecuiser Goeben back to the Germans. The socialist government of Germany refused because they though such a reminder of the “ evil imperialist” history of Germany was not good to save...So a part of European/German heritage was destroyed on purpose because of left wing dogma.

I would support this if there was any proof that the money actually reaches the ship and is not just wasted on 5 years of "damage surveys" without any repairs or effort to save it are actually made.

Texas has been rusting for 50 years yet even despite money being sent its way very little has been done.

Way to many departements involved with saving that ship. I would love helping, but the saving Texas project has become an endless money sink. Nobody wants the project to be finished as it would strip tons of people and multiple departements from their income.

Not gonna pour money into this untill I see actual progress

I would participate. I visited USS Texas 15 years ago. I tried to give a donation through the regular channels but got "drowned" in all kinds of nonsense links.

There are plenty of old ships in Europe, that you can still support - some even in active duty. Not necessary warships tho. F.e. check out http://www.sts-sedov.info/eng/

Sedov visits ports all over Europe every year, you can help keep the ship afloat by visiting it and leave some money in the shop. Or even become a trainee and experiance how it was 100 years ago to sail the open seas. Its truly worth it.

Can somebody who bought this offer confirm whether you have also the normal Texas permacamo available or not?

I would like to support the project, but I hate this kind of ahistorical paints and would definitely prefer a normal camo scheme.

Yes, you also get the standard premium camo when you buy the Lone Star package.
