WoWS coming to Steam

Assuming it results in an increase in player numbers, it might make the jump out of the 'baby tiers' (I-IV) somewhat less horrifying - with any luck, the swarms (hopefully) of newbies will dilute the high proportion of more expert players, with any luck.

Having said that, swarms of players (on both sides) who don't know what they're doing will drive the competent players bonkers, especially if some of them try and rush up the tiers too fast.

I'm actually mildly optimistic.

At least people on Steam are looking for a game rather than be some random kiddo clicking on an advert banner on his favourite porn website after a good wank thinking "man, firing battleship guns is exactly what I want right now".

Sure there's also going to be the typical noncommitted people with hundreds of games they got during Steam sales and never played them, but I'd suspect that kind of players to drop the game just as quick. The remainder should hopefully be mostly people who're actually looking to play the game, not just sail around admiring their ship and how their guns go boom when they click the left mouse button.

Is it just me thinking it or is the BB population about to soar to new numerical heights?

I imagine BBs will do well due to the big guns moar guns factor, but you'll see a metric expletiveton more DDs too due to the gotta go fast dodge gameplay people expect DDs to be, like scout in TF2.

Cruisers will suffer as ever and some great RTS players will master CVs, so you'll see a few more unicum CVs about.

One possible good effect might be to reduce the number of premium BBs bought as a proportion. You won't get as many people playing because they want to collect certain ships, so they'll buy premium DDs too. Maybe then we'll see other classes get a buff as people who buy premium DDs complain on the forums.

So ... sealclubbing time?

Time to grind whatever I have at low tiers, probably won't have a chance to do it so easily anymore :Smile_teethhappy:

And yes, of course some sealclubbing to show the new guys who's the boss around here :cap_cool:

I can't see Steam bringing in many new players at all.

The reason is (to me at least) obvious.

WoW has been about for a while already.

It is free to download, free to play.

Those who would wish to play it probably already do.

I cannot see many of Steams clients suddenly clasping a hand to their forehead in suprise at seeing this 'new' game.

It would be nice if there was a sudden huge influx, but I really do not see it happening. Sorry.

Depends on how Steam's tracking and game sugestion system handles WoWs and how many people actually look at those recommendations. Regardless of how many players might be purposefully looking for something like WoWs, Steam is going to boost the awareness of the game amongst those Steam users that don't already know about it (for better or worse is something we'll find out in due time).

This, I never knew about WoWs until I saw an ad for it and went to youtube and found Jingles.

Exposure is great.

Same here. Random Youtube notification (sometimes Google gets it right) brought me to Jingles' channel and I stuck around because I found his videos entertaining. Never quite got interested into WoT, but the WoWs videos he put up looked like something neat and I eventually decided to give the game a go after watching a couple of his videos (and subsequently stopped watching his WoWs content, I presume the only reason I can enjoy his WoT vids is because I'm still uninitiated to the finer details (i.e.: I can't tell nonsense from the rest)).

Just go play WoT to see what it will be like when steam brings in more players. Just had a break from ships and thought, wonder how WoT is doing - dire man, dire.

Bear in mind steam has a filter for "free to play". So anyone who's looking to play something new but doesnt see anything they want to buy can check out the f2p list and see if theres anything there that takes their fancy.

You also dont have to have a huge interest in the subject matter to enjoy it. I was interested in WoWs because of the tabletop game Battlefleet Gothic (which features spaceships with torps, and large broadside batterys) and tbought I might enjoy ship combat. Turns out I did. My historical knowledge of ships prior to playing could have been written on a napkin

Q Will I be able to use my Wargaming.net account?
A: Unfortunately, not. World of Warships wasn’t initially designed as a cross-platform project. That means that if you've played the game already you would want to keep using the original client. If you log in using Steam, you automatically create a new game account, which binds to your Steam account. Important note: all updates to the game installed using Steam client will also be downloaded and installed through Steam. Same is true for the original client: you can not update a Game Center or launcher installation through Steam and vice versa.

Great news :cap_wander:

You can always add WoWs as a non-steam game tho :)

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with the full release of World of Warships, it seemed to be Beta one day and not Beta the next with pretty much nothing changing, there was no excitement drummed up and the player figures didn't seem to change. Perhaps by offering it through Steam they will attract a fresh influx of players and that has to be good, it would be even better if they had a new line of ships to introduce at the same time.

True, I just hope they don't rush the USN CA split or any other ship now.

Spoiler

Graf Zeppelin *cough*... Gamescom *cough* *cough*
