I have seen it happen, too, but a single torpedo defeating the torpedo protection and magazine armor of a basically intact T10 BB is pretty ridiculous. Apparently WG did not only put tin foil armor on Preussen's barbette tops, but also on the magazines.

WG probably put there an RNG generator. I read somewhere that for low health BBs the chance is higher, but even full health BBs can detonate.

I hit a full health Vermont with a single Shimakaze Torpedo last month, and she was gone.

 

I have also had the same result with a Montana ages ago.

 

In 6 years, I have had this twice and only against American BB's and both times in my Shimakaze.

Latest T10 addition to the fleet, the (very) heavy French cruiser, Marseilles docked at ... Marseilles.

 

The grind through the new French cruisers was pleasantly surprising, as initially I didn't get along with T8 Cherbourg, mainly the slooow reload.

But with a bit of practice, and adjusting my game play they can be quite rewarding - that AP does hit hard on heavily armoured targets.

 

This was the result of her maiden voyage, in co-op.

Getting -1 karma from enemy CV for telling him to "Run piggy" after chasing him with a DD for a while.
Got his undivided attention until he ran into the rest of my team.

 

Enemy DDs were sunk and we had majority of the caps, I could tease the CV a little.

This guy was some SpEcIaL-fOrCeS.

First COMBAT SCOUT achievement. In Gold League. In Preussen. With a Ragnar, Vampire II and Harugumo on my team. Don't ask me how this happened. I guess I spotted a lot for my DD flotilla.

I had a morose evening, even superships did not work. Then I met @SnuSnu_RIP again, this time being on the same side. We lamented on patch day gameplay and the good old days. Then I went back to port and noticed that my desperate Patrie match turned out to be a win. I got a bit delighted and decided to grind the last 808 XP of my dailies. I took my trusty old Tirpitz for a spin and this is what happened:

 

 

 

 

 

I was delighted, my best Tirpitz match ever with 3000+ XP and 6 kills. But nobody complimented me which was a bit sad. I went to open my last daily container and...

I wonder why anyone should bother with those things. From the description, everything is sh*t except for torpedoes and concealment. But if I want good torpedoes and concealment, I play a DD (which has no citadel, i.e. another advantage).

Variety, that's why. There is certainly no other cruiser line in the game like this one.

 

Of course remains to be seen whether this is a good thing or not..
