What's the point in keeping tier 9 ships after unlocking tier 10 for a almost F2P player?

Hello guys,

I'm slowly grinding through high tiers ship, currently my only tier 9 is Donskoi, i just unlocked Izumo and waiting for a discount because i'm always short on credits.

Anyway, i'll unlock soon Neptune, Fletcher and Friedrich Der Grosse.

So, the thing is:

When i'll unlock tier 10 ships, why would i keep tier 9? with few exceptions (like Fletcher and Gearing) tier X ships are straight up upgrades over their tier 9 counterparts.

Credit Earnings:

You don't play tier 9 for credit earnings, you play your premiums or tier 6-7 ships for that (In fact, i kept all my tier 6 ships and all my tier 7 besides the shchors)

Ranked:

I think they will never make tier 9 ranked, because of Black and Missouri

Competitive:

It's tier 8

Clan Battle:

It's tier 10

MM:
Tier 9 ships 90% of the time have same MM as tier 10

So, as a F2P player (i got a couple of premium ships but no regular premium time besides supercontainers), why should i keep my tier 9 ships in port?

As of now, the only ship i could keep are Fletcher and maybe CV (tier X CV Economy is really hard and tier 9 CVS can compete in tier X MM).

If you play with friends you should always have a ship at every tier so that you can accommodate their turn to pick a tier. Otherwise, there is no reason other than the fact that you might want to keep them for the sake of a collection or you might want to play them again. If not, sell them!

T9 gets uptier almost 100% of the time so it's not worth it. If you have a t10 ship and your friend is up to t9..it's certainly ok to play in your t10.

Almost always T9s are in T10 battles, so it doesn't really matter if you make T10/T9 division.

To give just two examples. Fletcher is arguably better than Gearing. And Yugumo can be played in 'Gun Boat' configuration, in case of Shimakaze that would be pointless. So you can keep them just for variety.

For now. Might be different in future seasons.

Personally, I have kept 1 ship of each type for each tier from 2 to 10, because I prefer to play in division with my friends and you seem to get better MM, if you all have the same tier ships (so if they take tier 9, then I can do the same) and thus possibly avoid the dreaded "fail division". Of course, you still end up in tier 10 games much of the time but tier 9's are quite good enough to do well and will provide some additional ship choices to mitigate chances of boredom.

I also like my Yugumo and Ibuki very much so I'm keepin' them for further entertainment. :Smile_popcorn:

Sometimes I use premium time, sometimes I don t.

A unicum can probably make money playing only tier 10, but playing tier 9 I can break even.

I also collect ships, so I keep the interesting ships. And some of the tier 10 ships are paper-projects, so less interesting than some tier 8 or 9 which were real ships.

That's not really your decision to make, I'd personally have a problem with my friend taking a T10 ship every time it was my turn to pick a tier and I picked T9. I've taken my Fletcher when my friend has picked T10 before, but it should be my decision to take that T9 ship into T10 MM on his go rather than my friend forcing me to do so on mine. Simple manners.

I'm not an unicum, but not a potato too.

I usually play my tier 8 witohut economic flags and i break even or mak a small profit, sometimes i play bad and i lose some credits.

With tier 9, i got the same results with -10% service costs flag (break even more or less)

with tier 10 i don't know, i'll probably have to use +20% credit AND -10% costs flags, or i'll buy a permacamo :Smile_trollface:

I don't play in a division too (without mic it would be hard) so division MM it's not a problem currently.

However, you don't see fail division often in high tiers, sometimes there are tier X ships with tier IX CV, but i think is done on purpose

Having fun playing the ships?

I will never understand the people who grind instead of play.

Play in only high tier divs. That get rid of the "pick a tier" nonsense.

I think i made a bad word choice, sorry but english is not my native language.

I don't "grind" ships, i play them and i usually like them (with some exceptions of course). if you check my stats you can see i play all the ships i have to play.

I only used my FreeXp for A-hull Fuso, heck i even play stock ships in coop before unlocking upgrades an going to random battles (only tier 5-6 because i can do it without losing credits).

Thing is, when i unlock a new ship, i'd like to play it as soon as possible, because usually it's stronger than the previous.

I don't like to sail my high tier ships stock, or even worse without modules, so you add to the full price of the ship 6+millions in silver for modules.

Now, if you don't have premium time /missouri/ doubloons for retraining captains, and you know you'll probably won't play again the ship (because of OP), what's the point in keeping it from a F2P point of view?

I guess if you don't want to have best ships possible in a division, it is your choice. I'd rather be be in my T9 with two T10s then in T9 only division. But whatever floats your boat. :Smile_teethhappy:

Taiho, Essex, Donskoi, Fletcher and Missouri are the only tier 9 worth keeping imo.

What's so hard to understand? Most people prefer to play with stronger tools. It is WG who pushes people into grinding to get their "protected" MM back at T9-T10.

But again, T10 ships are so much stronger than T9's, that even being -1 tier is often huge disadvantage. And T10 MM for T9 is given in about 80% of the games.

Yes, there are some exceptions - but generally there is no point in fighting T9 vs T10, if you can do T10 vs T10.

For fun: If your friends/clan take a T9 then you still have a T9 to go along.

For collection: Some people love collecting.

For comfort: Example, I suck in zao while I do quite well in ibuki -> I much prefer the ibuki than the zao hence the reason why I no longer have zao.

For performance: Some people prefer playing fletcher rather than the gearing because some of fletcher's parameters are better.

Probably plenty of other reasons too for playing T9.

If you suggest only Missouri, not Iowa, I'd add following ships:

Iowa (stealth, speed)

Udaloi (range)

Yugumo (stealth)

You didn't keep the Shchors? what a shame, for me, one of my fav ships.

as for T9 ships, the only one I didn't keep was the Ibuki, but I do get the urge now and then to master it.

Credits are hard to make and keep on the Ladder from T7-10 with Tech Tree ships (Research, Hulls and upgrades), but after a few months at T10, credits will be the least of your worries.

Out of all the T9 stuff I've played I've only kept Fletcher. Everything else isn't really worth keeping.

Missouri is obviously pretty good too...

The Shchors has learned me a lot of things about russian cruisers, more than Budyonny, but i don't like to be citadelled from 17km while angling.

Considering that she's not a ship for ranked and i got the Kutuzov, i decided to sell it for funding other ships.

Anyway i kept my Fiji, my Nagato, even my Mahan (which i liked a lot, don't know why many other guys don't).

Honestly, both CVs are keepers.

Hakuryuu and Midway have very harsh economy, are 100% of the time in tier 10 battle with monster-AA, and Midway is overall better than Hakuryuu if the player knows what he's doing, so it's not even very balanced.

Taiho/Essex have easier matchmaking, and are much better balanced between each others. And the economy is still crap but it's workable in tier 9.
