Thoughts on Atlanta

I got this ship recently when it was on sale (obligatory, shameless youtube self-promotion here).

I have had huge amounts of fun in this ship. I have never seen such a huge amount of damage output in such a short amount of time. It strikes me though that minor buffs would be in order.

The range would be better at 12 or 13 km and more survivability would be nice, like a slightly larger health pool or tougher armour. As it is, it is huge fun but difficult to do well in.

Am I talking out of my rear, or do people in general agree? How do you play well in this ship?

Watch Yuro's how to Atlanta video.

Thanks, I'll do that.

I think the main issue that I have with it is managing to get into range to do damage without getting blown out of the water. Lack of toughness makes it easy to get blown up on the way in. Otoh, it has forced to be a lot more tactical in using islands and smokescreens and things like that

Atlanta is more than fine at the moment.

Fun ship to play with and strong enough to cause some serious damage.

Atlanta is a situational ship and dont need to be buffed, it is not a ship designed for ship vs ship apart from DDs and harassment. You get your WR by supporting and area denial for CVs

I saw the flint in action on stream and thought to myself...why the [edited]would they release this ship when we have the Atlanta? Read the stats and said yep...about 10x better than the Atlanta.

Flamu has covered the Atlanta/Flint extensively.

Check those out if interested about learning the hidden secrets of the Atlanta. :D

The real issue the Atlanta faces isn't that it has any problems itself, it's that carriers are now so rare in the upper tiers. Obviously the AA specialised ship in the game will not perform properly without any aircraft to shoot down, it's an AA escort first and an anti-DD flamethrower second.

If we could somehow filter the Atlantas's performance to include only games with carriers in them (or 2v2 carriers at T7), then I'm sure the stats will tell a different story.

Many "AA" Cruisers face the same issue in the current Meta at the moment.

A CV rework could bring back the balance to the force, already the APDB CVs seem to be evolving into some sort of BB annihilators which could balance the BB surge we are experiencing.

If for some reason people get interested in CV:s again the AA-oriented boats should be more useful in games.

And for example the Atlanta/Flint/Cleveland are more than OK at the moment even with the absence of CV´s

I went through the littlewhitemouse review when setting up the captain skills and loadout. It works pretty well against cruisers and battleships as well, I think, provided no-one is shooting back. The video I linked to in the OP is one of my games where I racked up a massive amount of damage in just that situation.
I think a slight buff would help make it better, or at least more accessible, in ship to ship combat. It is obviously specialised as a glass cannon, but I think it is too specialised.

And, yes it is definitely an AA and destroyer killer first and foremost.

The Atlanta also burns Cruisers and BBs quite nicely.

And it got a minor buff in the latest patch (+2% to fire chance with IFHE)

I would say the Cleveland is, but I'm not sure the Atlanta is.

IMO it works as intended, though the power creep at tier 7 with certain other more than OK premiums has hit it quite hard. It's good for some old fashioned stet peddin' if you're into that. :Smile_playing: (We all are, some just won't admit it.)

How many points does your Atlanta captain have?

The Atlanta is heavily buffed by its captain.

At the moment, either 6 or 7. I think 7.

It really starts to shine when you hit 10 pts (IHFE = Many damages), it gets even better at 14pts with Concealment Expert (Hiding is easier).
