Suggest me a premium ship

Hello there.

Saved few doubloons for rainy days, and now with the current discounts going I thought it will be a good idea to get one of them premium ships.

But I can't make up my mind. Can you help me fellow captains ?

I prefer DD > CA > BB in that order.

Destroyers

Leading contender right now is Lo Yang - I love US DDs playstyle, Tier 8 = more coin and xp, buffed Hydro and upcoming Pan Asian DDs to train captains.

Another strong choice is Anshan, but its only tier 6, less credits, dont like the slow turrets

Leningrad...dont like slow turrets

Blyskavica - I have it.

Cruisers

No idea, probably none. I already have the one I want - Atlanta. I know you gonna say Belfast and Kutuzov but I dont like their playstyle, also forecast shows heavy storm of nerfs incoming (Smoke and IFHE) 

Lower tier cruisers seems to be victims of MM.

Battleships

Scharnhorst - seems like good choice, Unique playstyle among other BBs which is a big plus for me. 

Tirpitz - good performer but if I ever go for a BB its gonna me Scharn

I have Warspite and Mutsu, no point in getting other tier 6 BB

 

Disclaimer - we are talking only about ships you can get with doubloons from the tech tree.

Lo Yang is nice but you're better off with a Benson unless you want to grind Lo Yang to 19 points from scratch. Pan Asian DDs are coming though...

 

Can't go wrong with Tirp or Scharn. Both are excellent and only user ability will hold them back. Just don't snipe in either!

Anshan is really strong, even in t8 matches. Can contest caps, can stealth torp, can zip around (important for early caps and overall map control), flat russian arcs. No chinese tech tree (yet).

I don't have Lo Yang but I played the Benson. She's a good DD but t8+ is a rougher environment. Relatively slow and meh gun power. USN gun arcs, so it's more of a knife fighter and at a disadvantage at mid to longish range fights with other DD.

• I'd pick Anshan over Lo Yang if it's about fun and Lo Yang if it's about credits/xp.

 

Leningrad requires a good captain - or so they say at least. So you better have some elite xp ready. I don't have one, tho. Zippy gunboat that can somewhat contest caps and stealth torp if you have the captain for it.

Blyska seemingly suffers quite a bit from the stealth fire nerf as far as I've read on the forums. Still a solid choice I guess. No polish tech tree.

Scharnhorst requires a certain mindset to be truly effective. You want to flank a lot because her HE is very meh. She cannot beat other BB at long ranges, she isn't good at sniping. You have to get somewhat close but you have to pick your fights carefully. VERY strong brawler, fast reload, cruiser and DD hunter with the occasional BB snack.

Tirpitz is my solid and trusty money maker. Got buffed recently so she can fully use my Bismarck captain. Good choice for credits/xp but high tier meta and a lot of t10 make me think of her as a bit boring. Won't use her torps very often. Mostly in a desperate attempt to gain a bit more dmg by yolo rushing.

Belfast and Kutuzov are going to become worse when the smoke changes patch hits and if you're spotted in one of those you'll get instafocused and for good reasons and most probably deleted since they're quite squishy. Best cruiser is Scharnhorst.

i think Scharnhorst is the best all round choice. Its a Swiss Army Knife kind of ship.

Best all-round premium I would say would have to be the Scharnhorst. Spec it for secondaries and get stuck in as close as you can, don't fall into pitfalls such as sniping or firing HE. But also don't play it like a mad man, you need to be leading charges but not suicide rushing. Fine line to find but once you do it's arguably the most fun ship in the game.

 

Kutuzov may be getting nerfed soon, but that's possibly even more reason to buy it now! It absolutely does not depend on its smoke to do well, the fact that it has it is simply a factor in how ridiculously OP it is. Would recommend those two the most out of the shortlist you gave.

I picked up an Anshan yesterday and my only regret is that I didn't get one sooner. I put EM on the captain instead of LS on the basis that while it doesn't earn a great deal of credits, it earns enough to at least pay for a premium repair kit so if my engine or steering goes, I pop the repair kit and get out of town for 40s. EM gets the turret traverse down to 21.2s, so IMO it's definitely been worthwhile, though LS will be the priority once I get CE.

 

There's also the 'hidden' camo bonus that Anshan enjoys, +100% free xp in addition to the more usual +3% concealment, +4% dispersion and +50% xp on tier 6 premiums. It's the only premium that appears to get this bonus, so it's helping me along to the Mighty Mo as well as getting my captain(s) ready for the PA DD line.

 

Given your cruiser preferences, have a look at the De Grasse. Great HE with good fire percentage and accurate guns that are relatively fast-firing (8.1s, 12%, 15s for a 180^o turn). The downside is that the turrets don't turn as far as you might like if your CL approach is to turn out and kite. The Molotov is a great fire-starter and the guns are epic because they're essentially the same as the tier 9 Donskoi gets, plus it gets a spotter plane so you can drop shells from behind islands or smoke. The DG is the more sturdy of the two but if anyone gets a decent angle on your side it's citadel city as they're both glass cannons.

Any DD needs LS - also you can pick multiple level 2 skills. I have EM and LS on my Anshan.

I vote for the Lo Yang, with the new hydro it's a new ship entirely. And the new line is coming so you're not wasting a captain on 1 ship. Only problem is training up a captain from scratch. Without eliteXP I wouldn;t do it myself probably.

Yeah, even DDs that need EM should take LS first for the simple benefit of not being immobilized or forced to go in circles with a lucky hit.

All the rest of my DD commanders have had LS before EM. This time I thought I'd try something different.

As I don't have the Lo Yang I'll trust you on it. Which means that the ship is really in a bad place because of the skill requirement.
