Anyone writing 'battleships' must be delusional, and also think Belfast is properly balanced

Zuihou against 2-0-1 Bogue is a nightmare to play. It was already bad enough when there was the manual attack as it wasn't forgiving, but now you have to rely entirely on baiting and trying to land a hit somewhere else. Which doesn't work unless you are clearly a better player.

Seriously, be a little more gentle to that poor girl, wargaming. :Smile_sad:

I think that, overall, CV are the hardest. Kaga can be very difficult when matched against a Saipan too.

Now if you excludes CVs, I would rate Atlanta as one of the most difficult premium to play. It's not a bad ship, far from it even, but it is very, very hard to master.

As for silver ship, I'd probably pick Neptune. There are radar, hydro, long-range torps in his matchmaking, it doesn't have the insane DPM of Minotaur (though it's quite close), and most of all it has a somewhat bad concealment compared to both Edinburgh and Minotaur, which means you have to smoke from further away than a Minotaur. And it doesn't forgive any mistakes.

T-22. :Smile-_tongue:

I used to hate the T22, and she hated me also, but now I have got along with her and my experience has changed a lot. Concealment is a must, as is Vigilance, and that makes her a decent steathy torprdoboot and a pretty good cap-brawler also.

For me its the higher tier RN CL's (Especially Minotar and Belfast), and Clevland...  You can never rush (which is my natural propensity), and have to really spend a lot of effort on picking your hiding spot.

Add to that the fact that the RN smoke is soo damn small, together with the fact that the braking and acceleration on the RN cruisers is godawful ("oh god, please reverse, please start moving, please ... crap the torp...crap!").  Togther with the fact that one shot from a BB at almost any angle and you've lost 1/3rd to 1/2 your hp at least.

But really what makes them most difficult to play imho is easily illustrated by the situational awareness captain skill... Hiding in smoke as the enemy team is all launching shells at one of your poor teammates (no matter which one), suddenly you get spotted, within seconds your situational awarness shows 7 or 8 people targeting you and you are dancing in a rainstorm of enemy shells with your paper umbrella.  You are always the highest priority target.

The most difficult ship to play is ofcourse the V type SH submarine. When it was introduced it was literally unplayable! :Smile_trollface:

oh ... lots of possible competitors.

karlsruhe is really bad.

t-22 should be the worst though. Especially in a tier 7 match, which happens most of the time. Pop-guns, that are for show.

Never played a CV, I dont find the prospect attractive. Tried destroyers' briefly but didnt get on with them.

I find stealthy cruisers the hardest to play. Probably because I dont play DD's. The theory is simple enough. But in practice its a lot harder when it doesnt come natural to you.

I actually really enjoy the T-22, yet to lose a game with her since i unlocked her and average damage of over 45k. I play her as a mix of a Japanese and American DD, guns are not great but in an unfair fight you will come out on top. (don't even have concealment on the captain yet)

Hardest ship to play in the game, i agree its the Emerald, awful ship the only time i did well was when i tag teamed with a friendly Fiji and shared smoke and firepower, i provided the torpedos, he provided the guns.

Izumo is the silver horror. She cant do anything. Gun have worse rng than Nagato, armor is as effective as britich CL armor, she is huge, slow and cant turn at all.

As for gold ship probably Yuubari and Atlanta even thou i love them bought

The Neptune did its damdest to make me hate it. Detonating, losing turrets, just generally being a bloody roley poley compared to the Fiji or Edinburgh BUT in its premium camo, whith the flags, the right winds of MM and jesus she is ruthless beyond belief. Raking in the citadels, throwing out torpedoes and watching that damage counter roll :cap_rambo:. Neptune was a love/hate relationship all the way to the Minotaur and it was dam tough getting that XP. I think it is more enjoyable now because I don't need to care too much about that. Best is the Minotaur don't get me wrong but Best/worst? Definately the Neptune for me.

Karlsruhe is plenty strong but misunderstood IMO. It's all about that 9.1 km concealment (with CE) and great hydro. It's a dedicated DD hunter and DD escort, kinda like a T4 Belfast (and almost as strong, for tier). Flamu has a great video about making the Karlsruhe work.

It is also quite worth mentioning that since its introduction it has received more than a few buffs, a quick search revealed at at least the following:

  • Dresden, Kolberg and Karlsruhe: AP shells have been recalculated - armour penetration has been increased
  • Karlsruhe: engine protection against HE shells improved threefold.
  • For the Karlsruhe cruiser, the main battery reload time was decreased from 8.57 seconds to 6.5 seconds
  • For the Karlsruhe cruiser, the traversing angles for the front turrets (towards the opposite ship side) were changed from 25 degrees to 70 degrees
  • Hull (B) was replaced with the new one. The new hull has two additional broadside torpedo tube mounts (4 mounts in total for this hull) and an extra 88 mm L/45 MPL C/13 AA mount
  • Average AA damage within the 3 km AA engagement area radius increased by 2 points (from 3 to 5 points)
  • Main turret's armament has been improved: 5mm have been added to the lower part of the turret's shield - 1 mm armament layer has been removed from the back side.

The Karlsruhe we have today probably isn't that bad... but I am one of the sad people who played it prior to ALL these changes, so for me, it will forever be a nightmare.

Worst ship(s) is tier 7 to 8 cruisers that dont have smoke and repair party. They mostly are lowest tier and face teams consisting of mainly battleships (in my case espacially the tier 8 cruisers). One wrong move and you are detonated, no tier 9 or 10 battleship need more than 3 hits to kill you. Also most ships has higher range and better arcs when you are lowest tier. Tier 8 is broken, but most for cruisers of the "old school" like Mogami and New Orleans, and most destroyers as well. For cruisers of higher tiers than 8 its better, as MM is not that negative factor. Well, tier 9 Tashkent is awful, and after latest nerfs to consealment and all the radar and stuff its suicide to sail it. I say apart from premium ships, it is BB that got the best out of the meta in games current configurtion.

So many people are confusing "bad" or "worst" with "hard".

Ships can be good and hard to play, like RN CLs.
Being hard doesn't automatically make them bad.

OP I've been pondering about your question all day! To answer your question I'm afraid I'll have to split it into 3 categories...

1 the ships I hate to play and thus found impossible to make it function. Lepramore, Citadel-per and Dorck.

2 the ships I love but still can't make it function even with a gun on my head. Hence Yamato and Curry. Though with the latter I feel like I'm having the same issue I had with all previous German BB's: We need to get acquaintance to each other and I'm feeling I'm getting the hand of it. Yamato however. No matter what I do: play aggressively/  cautious. It always end up getting focused out by the entire red fleet.

3 ships I love and getting the hang of it. Charles Martel. OMFG: I love to be THE PIA for the reds with the handling. Doing, for my standers, quite decent matches in it. But any BB looking funny at me, devastates me (if that player sacrificed enough sheep to RNG that is). I find it so hard to play. Yet so satisfying to annoy the living daylights out of the "enemies." And those torps are hilarious! Often gave a wonderful parting gift to bullies chasing me!! heck I thoroughly enjoyed the French line, though difficult to play, uptil now. And no: not only because the red-white-blue is ALMOST in the right order (like the Russian flag is almost today, but still a "wannabe"). Just for the sheer fun in it.

The NO is in bad position because of the MM, at tier it's a really good ship with powerful guns.

Emerald as mentioned before is bad. But the Krasny Krym is worse, at least that's what I've heard since I'm not spending cash to buy it.

The Galissonniere is also tough to play, you can make it work but it's not worth it.

No. pretty awesome ship. Galissonniere.

it has his shortcomings, when compared with Cleveland but also have his strong points  when compared with the Cleveland.

During the FNFL flag thing. Initially I though I would use Emile as my primary ship but it was Galissonnierre that  end up carrying me through the darkest moments of that mission.

I would definitely have to vote for Mikasa... It has diabolically inaccurate main guns at any range.. Too slow to catch anyone with any sense and a practical effective range of 3 km (since all the damage you can expect to make in a game will comes from its awesome battery of very short-range secondaries).

So despite of it being spotted from 11.5 km away, the player should somehow sneak UNDETECTED (or else you burn before getting anywhere near) to within 3km of its intended victim, then ambush it and make sure it won't be able to run away (which is harder than you think since a bathtub with one paddle will be faster than Mikasa).

Though all that said, if ever you once manage to have a good game with it, it will be all the more satisfying...
