Hardest ship to play?

Yo gents,

Lets have positive discussion about ships.

Which ship in the game is the hardest one to play in current meta? Why?

We can make 2 categories. Regular and premium one.

I will start with Pensacola.

Most awesome and awful ship in the game. One wrong turn and you are literary back in the port... but there is challenge into that isnt it?

As for premium I would mention Belfast. In my opinion, either you carry game or you are complete thrash. That is why I play very little Belfast.

Whats your expirence, opinion or suggestion to try challenge?

Boris

Definitely Emerald, whet cardboard armor, eats citadels from IFHE and 65% of the time sees TVII BBs (but who can't do any damage broadside, just through the front :Smile-angry: ).

Agree - Emerald! Spectacularly awful - I confess to free XPing her but went back afterwards and it is still awful. Atlanta has taken me many hundreds of games to really get used to - very unforgiving but hilarious when everything lines up!

New Orleans seems to be tougher to play than before. Mostly in tier ten games and lacks the firepower to take out fleeing dds during a radar. Farragut is pretty bad too...

Pensacola at least gets good mm.

T8 US CV Lexington. Few squadrons for answering IJN CV's squadrons, also for premium US CV Enterprise squadrons. + Long reloading times + long detection distance. In fact all US CVs have same issues excluding premium CVs.

Emerald again

The only ship from the RN line that I deleted at the first opportunity I got.

The NO is in bad position because of the MM, at tier it's a really good ship with powerful guns.

Emerald as mentioned before is bad. But the Krasny Krym is worse, at least that's what I've heard since I'm not spending cash to buy it.

The Galissonniere is also tough to play, you can make it work but it's not worth it.

Agreed... Emerald is a total nightmare. Wish I did free XP through her, but didn't. Stuck at her, had a couple of good matches, but on the whole she wants to sink.

Worst premium? Tough one... maybe Krasny Krym or Marblehead. Own both, but not played a load of matches in either of them.

Hardest silver ship to play for me is Shimakaze.

Hardest premium to play for me is probably.. Molotov? Idk that one just isn't very relaxing to play ( often ).

It's not really that hard to play though, it's a bad ship, but not one that's especially hard to play.

Sail up to edge of detection range, smoke, shoot, run away and pray that nothing spots you then repeat and that's about it.

Regular: 1-1-1 Lexington. Should be unnerfed to 2-1-1. Even Ranger struggles with 1-1-1.

Premium: Indianapolis. Her good point (upgraded armour as the last-generation treaty cruiser) isn't good (57mm citadel abafts, compare with Cleveland citadel being 127mm all-round). Radar consumable doesn't synergise with the ship's long-range playstyle at all.

It's hard to separate the quality of the ship and the effect of the MM. For example New Orleans is on paper a solid upgrade on Pepsi in all respects -- however it's absolutely NOT good enough an upgrade, once you factor in that you'll go from mostly facing T5's to mostly facing T10's.

Due to MM and the general meta, I'd say ANY T5 or T8 cruiser is the hard mode in this game.

Based on recent experience I'd also suggest La Galissonière. Apart from grinding towards the Algérie, I have the hardest time seeing why you'd play it instead of Cleveland. Worse guns, worse survivability, slower, less agile, night-and-day difference in AA. Those two torps per side don't make up for it.

Silver ships: Ranger (and probably higher tier USN CVs too) - and the T5 Emerald.

Premium ships: Dunkirque. I [edited] hate that ship. :Smile-angry:

I find any RN CL from T3 up to the T7 I have takes hard hits no matter what the angle. You could line a team of Emeralds up bow to stearn though, and a T7 BB could shoot through the lot.

A worthy mention goes to the Atlanta.

Sure you can tell me "but herp derp, you just park behind an island and spam rainbows!"
Well yes, but unless you have a good captain with both IFHE and AFT, you have to pick between getting damage (other than fire damage) or having passable range.
Then you have to deal with the rainbow arc.
Then you have to deal with the fact that everyone wants you dead, and can overmatch/regular pen you.
Then you have to deal with the fact that if you want to use your torpedoes, all you have is an awkward, one per side with poor angles layout, which insures that you can neither retreat while launching torps, nor use them offensively.

Ultimately, it's a ship with which you need to know the maps, and if the map/the way the match is being played isn't to your advantage, there's nothing you can do but wait, to your team's (often vocal) discontent.

I say it is Neptune and Mogami. Not saying they are weak ships, simply successful gameplay for these 2 ships is demanding.

I remember watching a tier 6 Mutsuki get crushed by a ST sailing a tier 6 Błyskawica. Hilarious mismatch!

Mutsuki is much better at tier 5, now it only gets matched agasint ships like Błyskawica and Belfas. Oh.

And Cleveland. A paper ship all her life is apx. 2-5 mins. when she detected. Also have no torpedos.  :)
