Too many one-sided games?

Hi Chaps,

Is it just my personal experience or are one-sided games becoming more common? Winning or losing these roll-over stompings is very poor entertainment for for me.

I do still enjoy some close fought battles but according to my fallible memory combined with MxStat (add on) and a poor understanding of averages these seems to be perhaps one in fifteen.

I'm only interested in other people's experience of one-sided games and of course any statistics. This is not a rant or complaint, just an enquiry about whether this is a general trend.

Fred.

Yeah something is really broken right now. Either you lose really bad or u win really easy. I tend to end up on the loosing side...think my rekord is like 15 losses in a row. Its not fun anymore to just keep losing. I struggle to get my daily win every day.

Many factors can influence the possibility of a steamroll happening, but in the latest days I have your same impression.

I (fortunately not too much often) see across all mid and high tiers an awful gameplay by DDs that don't cap or don't engage even if there is local advantage, or play egoistically; in this particular case this triggers a chain reaction for which the green team loses initiative, becomes passive, and loss due to points + the usual kills comes quick. Add the usual BBabies static gameplay and the dish is complete.

Generally, more bad players are attracted by the weekend bonuses or more free time, and their bad skill is exacerbated from classes they are going to use. You can be pretty much sure that if they are going to use an important class (in terms of strategic impact) like DD or CV their negative performance WILL fall heavily on the whole team.

The bad / sad thing is that usually they don't even read the suggestions given in chat, or start themselves swearing.

the "steamroll" issue has been discussed a lot. In my experience it's been going on now for almost a year. I know: they happened before as well. But where it once was, again in my xp, 10% of the cases, now it seems the other way around. I can't " pinpoint" an explanation though. Not the noobs, weekend warriors of a specific class or nerf/ buff. Those are all unchanged factors. I'd say good and bad players should be mixed up evenly-ish. Nerfs/ buffs hit everybody.

For me it's getting a real problem... I hate to win or lose that way. Both give me the feeling of "why bother in the first place?" I'd love to see the nail biting epic fights more often again. Where the destroyed players keep looking and the losing side sincerely congratulating the winning. And the latter thanking for the awesome fight saying "we were just luckier this time."

Problem is I can't give a good advice since I don't have a clue where the problem lies. I'd like to see the CC's opinions and analyses on this issue very much.

The main reason is when a team doesn't get any caps and then reaches 0 points (or one team gets all 3 without contest and reaches 1000 really fast).

So possible solutions would be:

  • more standard battles
  • highter amount of starting points and less points/s for having a cap

Just did a requested survey. I found myself to be cynical as I've never been before. Against my gut feeling I decided to do another session tonight. 7 losses, 3 victories. 100% ROFL stomps. And all of them getting to the pathetic 1000 points. I am really not sure if and when I'll start my client again. It's making me sick to my stomach. What a boring disgusting game this is becoming. I am honestly considering playing Tetris. Sorry if I might sound "ranty." It's making my heart bleed as a matter of fact. I used to love playing wow's but it's getting an utter annoyance for me. Either roll up or being rolled up. What's he f-ing fun in that?

whatever has happened its just replicating a pattern from wot. they have fixed mm there as well somehow making steam roller matches happening too often that's why I have stoped playing wot after over 60k games. and again its because wg don't listen they try to fixed the mm instead of listening to the players asking to get skill based mm instead of wg pushing for coop style mm

as for WOT is concerning: I game it a shot. Tried my best but having driven 1 km I get stomped to the next match by the phantom tanks. Bloody heck I'll need 1000 matches to acquire the skill of being detected so thanks but no tanks for me.

No but there are to many ultrabad players in the game. Place them on teams only with other bad players and let it be random which skill level teams they meet.

I experience this very often. Granted I'm usually on the winning team. IMO there are too many players with no clue that lose their way into tier x. Nothing can be done about it I think so whatever.

I would like to suggest that the roflstomp actually happens because people are playing well.. You just need a few ships to group and play well together to take over a flank and get 1-2 kills ahead. Since it's usually the scouts that get killed the other team is now deep in ***.

And unless they (the team that just lost 2 offensive players/ scouts) pull together and adjust (difficult even in the best of times) the trend will just continue.. with little any individual player can do against it.

It's not really great but I don't see what WG is supposed to do against it. And quite often I get more money in a loosing roflstomp by just kiting away that in a winning one. It's also the best change to get a kraken. So.. :Smile_child: next battle!

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I don't know how Wargaming can mitigate this problem but I do believe it is a problem. But, as Titan_net (above) suggests, a few co-ordinated players can push through a flank, and good play should be rewarded.

I also believe (or maybe hope) that providing an entertaining and balanced game must be a small part of WG's business plan.

It seems to me that what I need to do is to adjust my expectations and objectives whilst I hope that WG can deliver a solution via their continuing efforts to make money.

Fred.

nah roflstomps happen because ppl do not know how to play their ship and suicide in the first 5 minutes. Too manny ppl cant hold their own and survive longer then this.

I stopped to play game for my sanity because of roflstomps and steamroll matches. I cant remember last time i get a competitive match. I am also started use mxstats. You cant believe how much bad players playing freaking Tier X. They like to rekt in 5 minutes? Why someone insist to ruin somebodies limited time pleasure?

Everyone at here playing this game for fun arent they? Why i am going to continue to play the game if all i got angry and rage? WG fix the problem already. Its the current meta after newyear. I am not spending a single penny anymore until its sorted out. At least put a Tier8 and above limitation based on WTR etc. whatever. I am sick enough already. Dont give permission to use Yama with 20k average dmg players at PVP until they improve themselves. :Smile_izmena:

You are correct. There are a lot more one-sided games now as compared to before. More due to 5 + ships chasing down a CV and ignoring caps.

This is my no 1 problem with WoWs. It actually makes me think of quitting. I get fewer than 1 in 10 fun matches. Ranked matches are much better in terms of fun close games, where I get perhaps 3 in 10?

high tiers an awful gameplay by DDs that don't cap

This is a direct consequence of a sea filled with radars and BBs that single salvo rekt DDs.

The problem isnt the balance issue. Its player base and their iniative to rush through tiers.

As others have said it's because of the summer holidays, and it's possibly also due to the Dunkirk event.

The best thing about it is that it could be solved or at least mitigated so easily if WG actually cared enough to do so. Skill based MM. At the moment what you get is the MM throwing people into teams of people who have utterly no idea what they're doing, against teams of people who practically live and breath this game. It's such an easy issue to solve, they wouldn't even need to slow down the MM since they could just have the MM select randomly from the player pool as it currently does, but instead of just slapping everyone into teams at random, it could sort through the stats of the players and make sure that players are distributed to teams by skill as evenly as possible. There would be far less of this rofl stomping at least.

What I see very often is 5 ships chasing one enemy to the edge of the map while the rest of the team gets slaughtered. Or people just being miles away from the objective.

My favorite ( on Okinawa ) is team stating: let's go B + C, then your entire team lemming trains to A. Mind you, they don't actually contest the cap ( or use radar to spot enemy DD in there ), nono, they sail around the cap to the utmost northern point of the map. So when the enemy team capped A and B, they all focus on C where 4 poor sods were trying to keep the enemy from capping the rest ( needless to say how that went ) and finally after 10 !!!! minutes the 'team' starts capping A. Just great gameplay, but you aren't allowed to say anything because you're a noob who knows nothing ....
