I cap, I kill, I attack, I defend, I switch flanks, I... I don't know. OMG!!! the only thing I didn't do yet with it, flying. yet. the best ship I have hands down. and it's only tier IV (rolling eyes) (sigh)
[HOO] BuzzLine Players 12 posts 8,177 battles Report post #2 Posted July 25, 2017 Ooooh yes. I have very fond memories of the Kuma. <3 It is very well suited to the fast pace of T4 battles and quite well rounded, not a lot of hit points but you learn the "dodge as armor" principle of light cruisers. Have fun ! Float safe.
rvfharrier Weekend Tester 805 posts 4,630 battles Report post #3 Posted July 25, 2017 Back in the day when I was grinding low tiers the Kuma was probably my favourite ship to both sail and to shoot at, hide that citadel! Good times. Oh to be young again and play the Kuma for the first time... last time I played it it had to contend with Fusos and it was still great. Must be even better now, hadn't even considered that.
Zogash85 Beta Tester 516 posts 4,160 battles Report post #4 Posted July 25, 2017 A well played Kuma is a force to be reckoned with. A Kuma that drives in a straight line for more than 5 seconds is a damage piñata for my Arkansas.

Setting the threshold at 1mm below the Kuma's gun calibre was not a coincidence :p. It was one of a few cruisers that were pretty severely overpowered back then. [L4GG] Butterdoll Players 3,470 posts 11,414 battles Report post #8 Posted July 25, 2017 the best of all. and I've got the best. emile, phoenix, Omaha, Cleveland, la galio something, I have the Clemson too. they are good ships, excellent ships, that I love very much. but kuma it's something else, it's all that I'm looking for in one ship. while with pensa (blaaarrrgh) I've got to be at mid health for the guns starts kicking in acceptable . with kuma with adrenaline rush I'll be getting free with murder. OMG. Sooooooo fun it is

Got a bout of nostalgia from this thread, remembered I had a two year old Kuma battle recorded and so went back and watched it. While watching the mighty Kuma vanquish all that came before it I thought the name of one poor victim looked familiar! August 2015. Can't help but feel the game was better back then... could just be nostalgia and rosy retrospection talking though.

[CPA] Procrastes Beta Tester 4,083 posts 4,481 battles Report post #11 Posted July 26, 2017 The Kuma is a great little cruiser! She is definitely one of the ships you keep coming back to, no matter how high you go up the tiers. I have actually kept my Atago captain on her rather than post him on the Aoba, since the Kuma is simply more fun to play. And with DE and CE skills on her captain, the Kuma becomes a truly scary adversary! The Kuma has got a good number of guns that deliver a hefty punch for her tier, she's got good torpedoes, she's very manoeuvrable, and to top it off she's even got a fighter plane to mess up carrier attacks and spot the odd torpedo. The fact that she has a citadel that positively attracts AP shells, is actually a good thing, since she would be totally obnoxious otherwise!
[UNICS] Nechrom Beta Tester 4,870 posts 10,112 battles Report post #12 Posted July 26, 2017 I love all the destroyer leader type cruisers and the Kuma is no exception. Just recently got her dedicated captain up to 10 points which is very useful. I just wish they would continue adding more of these cruisers to the game. Both the Agano and Oyodo classes are still missing.

Tier for tier it's not as good of a ship and it will face much more brutal MM to boot. Now that you know that and have no expectations you can resume your quest to get a Zao! [UTW] ShinGetsu Weekend Tester, In AlfaTesters 8,985 posts 7,359 battles Report post #18 Posted July 26, 2017 Furutaka is still a beast at dealing with other cruiser though. Those 203mm at tier 5 murders absolutely anything with AP and it's the only cruiser of the whole IJN line (except Atago) that have great forward torpedo angles. Designed for being agressive. Though Kirov was even funnier to play. Tier 5 matchmaking may have been a bit hard, but I still managed around 40k average damage and that would have gone up to 60k if not for that matchmaking. LOZFFVII Players 2,848 posts 5,365 battles Report post #20 Posted July 26, 2017 Kuma is amazing. Iirc, I got both Confederate and High Caliber on my first game in her! I think I got both of those medals twice in my career with her. She is just so awesome! And I can confirm that Furutaka is a disappointment by comparison. The turret traverse is awful and you do not want to try using the stock guns. Took one look at those stats and was like: "Nope! Better Free XP that away!" 3 hours ago, puxflacet said: i had never really remarkable game with her although i feel her potential...shes also pretty good looking Spoiler She is pretty cute, but not my type. Specifically, I remember arguing quite a bit with a sealclubber another player that kept rambling on and on how the Kuma was going to completely lose to the new and upcoming Svietlana, and how the Kuma desperately needed a buff to stay competitive and not to be useless. As it turns out, Kuma is still performing on par with the Svietlana... who would have thought.
rvfharrier Weekend Tester 805 posts 4,630 battles Report post #22 Posted July 26, 2017 Furutaka isn't a bad ship at all and never was, but relative to its peers and its matchmaking the Kuma was and still is simply far better. Furutaka was plagued by sharing a tier with the monstrously OP Omaha/Murmansk back in the day when it got good MM, and now that the Murmansk has been somewhat declawed and the Furutaka had a chance to step into the limelight... awful T5 MM struck. Poor ship never could catch a break. :(
[BAD-F] Sams_Baneblade Beta Tester, Players 299 posts 10,751 battles Report post #23 Posted July 26, 2017 Lots of guns, with japanese nuclear warheads. BBabies and DDs hates it. PS: If you enjoy the Kuma, you might enjoy the Yubari. It might very probably be on sales again in the future. Awesome if you know how to WASD I am currently sitting at 49k average and 72% wr for 22 battles. Gameplay is between Kuma and a smokeless DD: nimble, discrete, laser-accurate long-ranged guns, with powerful AA (+DEFAA) as a welcome bonus. Sadly, no Hydro and horrible angles for its 6km submarine nukes.
VC381 Players 2,928 posts 6,549 battles Report post #24 Posted July 26, 2017 Always glad to see a happy player! Makes me wonder if I should try this ship again. The IJN cruiser line was the first I played, and the Kuma was the first ship I skipped with Free XP. I hated it at the time but I loved the Furutaka (pre-C-hull) and never looked back. Maybe I'm just weird like that.

After that change it went from BAD directly to BEAST, dispite of that limited weaponrange.
