weekly mission: Battle of the Espero Convoy stage 4 - don't think it's possible with the ships I currently own

I want that extra ship slot but this stage 4 might be entirely out my reach with the ships I currently own - the restrictions and conditions make it impossible

 

the stage 4:

Restrictions:

  • Random battles, Ranked battles
  • Any Tier VI+ ships

Conditions - In a single battle:

  • Deal 15,000 damage to destroyers
  • Deal 45,000 damage to cruisers

 

ships I have that match that criteria: Farragut (t6 DD), Cleveland (t6 CA), Pensacola (t7 CA - captain not fully retrained), Independence (t6 CV)

 

why it's impossible:

  • 15k dmg to DDs means killing a Farragut by myself and deal additional damage to a 2nd DD - assuming that 2nd DD actually is in the enemy team
  • 45k dmg to CAs means killing a Cleve all by me then deal additional damage to other CAs
  • and you have to do all this while all the enemy team is blind!? how do you survive at that tier? a BB can end you in one salvo

 

the closest I can get is playing a bombers and torp planes CV - the CAs are doable, but getting those DDs ... not so much

 

I wish WG would actually think, even try to accomplish this themselves before putting into the game

There is a reason why some missions say "Tier VI+".

Yes, if you are good or lucky you can complete these missions with tier VI ships. But usually it is easier to use ships of higher tiers (VIII+) for missions which require damage.

If you lack the skill and/or the material (ships of higher tiers),  you will fail.

Higher tier DDs can have more health. Even without the +HP captain skill a Benson, for example, assuming an upgraded hull will have sufficient HP for the mission. Should be easy in a Cleveland and possible in a Pensacola.

 

Not sure why you think 45K against cruisers would be difficult, either. There are plenty of broadsiding cruisers around to sling AP at and US AP is known to be pretty good.

not by itself, but combined - those enemy players should be the biggest dumb asses on this planet to ignore you while you shoot at them

just had a match with Pensacola where a enemy BB just blew me away from across the map in single salvo - it gets in t9 matches ..

 

it's easier around t4-5 because ships in that range are easier to acquire and some of them can take a beating

 

ps; my Pensacola is stock and it's captain still on red (not fully retrained)

Trust me, they are. In one of the few last battles i had, i sunk enemy Hindenburg with 3 salvoes from Montana. 19km, over a minute. He didn't touch WASD even one time.

That's just one example, but lots of the deletion trauma tales have very similar roots.

Missions in EU are not meant to be finished by everyone. The completion rate can be as low as 0.28%, and WG has stated they are aiming at 3%.

 

oh well .. that explains a lot

The missions with high damage or XP requirements are much easier in high tier games, so yes being at lower tier does put you at a disadvantage. I think in the last 2 months I have only completed one weekly mission and I play a lot.

The easiest class to accomplish all this in a single game is a BB.

 

You have to see that the game is catered to the people who pays the most. And BB players are the people who on average spends the most.

If there are more than 2 DD in the enemy team, the 15k damage is doable.

45k damage to cruisers ist just a good game.

 

I suggest using a cruiser for this.

Or if there is a Kebab, you only need 2/3 of it. 15k to DDs is definitely the harder part. When they do go down it is usually to a bombardment of every player in range. If I was to play specifically to do this stage (which is where I'm at) I would take the Minotaur, seek out a DD near the start and hope it has 15k for me to take, and then play cautiously the rest of the game to hopefully get the 45k cruiser damage. As it is, these missions I find the first 1-2 stages are gimmes, then there is a grindy stage, and the last one or two will either happen in a good game or not.

Those missions are at a level that is suited to high tier and the easiest way is just to play to best of your ability and hope that stars align, do not concentrate too hard and it might come to you. I play as usual if I succeed it is good if not ...

that long you dont have 1 Tier 8 or 7 fully "pimped" ship?

well it says mission not giveaway, if it was giveaway requirements will be click battle type in chat "Hello World" and u get all d stuff after end of that battle lol

I guess the problem is finding games with sufficient numbers of DD/CA, which with 5 x BB per side isn't easy.  

 

I guess it's easier at T9/10 where the HP of a single ship are sufficient to achieve the goal, at lower tiers you're going to need to take out nearly half of the red team's CA/DD HP.

Yes it is good point the 45K in a cruisers you want a BB and the 15 K in a DD you want a DD or maybe if they are many DDs a CA. It is the combination that is difficult. Khaba seems ok as a suggestion or maybe Akizuki?

 

On lower tiers I suggest fastfiring cruisers. Problem is that you need enough DDs and CAs, If there are games may DDs the Cas tend to be few and vice versa so one must have luck with killing one or the other.

Frankly i don't think the rewards are worth putting an effort,  smoke upgrade and port slot are both useless if you ask me. Million credits is also not that much.

So don't worry if you can't finish the mission with your ships. Just play casually and maybe a good game will happen in which you will manage to meet mission requirements.

Wat? Read the archives, there is tons of torp/plane/flood/fire missions in weeklies. If not for the occasional ship torps and class specific mission, the easiest class for weeklies would be by huge margin CV.

When slots are on sale their individual cost is 0.62€ without any doubloon discount. Just wait until there's a doubloon sale like "buy x, get extra y", buy 20 slots worth of doubloons and wait for the port slot sale. That way you will spend even less than that, probably around 0.50€ for each slot. With 20 slots available you will be able to play a lot of lines, and in the mean time you will definitely get more extra slots one way or another. (Ex: ships shuffled around, events like Arpeggio, slots from containers, new lines...)

Currently at that stage too but will not make it in time, I think Aircraft Carrier is the way to go for this one.

It says ship torpedoes, not plane torpedoes.

I checked my stats, most I have is 5 ships sinked by torps in a single battle, so I guess I might have had 10 hit torps sometime ago, but I can t get them now.

Pfff, that sucks dude,was almost certain it said torpedoes in general so I thought CVs counted. Anyway , in a few hours it will be gone anyway. Cheers

You need to pick your ship accordingly. While high tier like Shima with 3*5 torps does sound tempting, it is the wrong choice. The torps do way too much damage, sinking ships quickly rather than farming hits. And with all the planes spotting (or outright killing you), sonar, radar, 5 dds per team,..., getting 10 hits is difficult.

So it's best to keep it low. Fubuki at VI with 3*3 every 70 seconds. Or VII Shira with a potential 16 torps wall of skill.

But that's the crux of the mission. Those that could use the port slot probably are not in the position to get it. And those that do have no real need for it. Surprisingly, I did it in a 7 vs 7 (with the Shira as low tier) late last night. I mean with so few targets around, I wasn't exactly expecting it. At least 10 torp hits pretty much guarantee you a top 3 spot.
