Help me choose a Battleship.

I need help to choose a Battleship to play. Right now I have German cruiser Admiral Hipper but I am not doing very well with him.

I have Battleship ARP Hiei that appear in my port long ago (maybe it was a gift?) that I do very good with - almost 54% win rate. I like to play battleship but I don't like tier 5 and I think to buy Tirpitz or Scharnhorst because they have torpedoes and I can fight destroyers and take bases (I play aggressive). Which battleship to buy, what commander skills?

No.

There's more than enough german BB around.

Go for the japanese, at least they're fun, each of them quite unique and only Izumo is a bit weak.

If you like to play aggressive, least up to T8 secondary builds German BB's are amazing. T9/10 while you can get the same powerful long rage secondary for them, the meta changes to medium/long range. All good ships and fun fun

if your looking for premium, Scharny and Tirpitz are both good. Scharny gets friendly MM tho. If you know not to show your sides Alabama is a good option too.

You want to buy a premium BB or are you asking which nation line to grind ?

In the first case both Scharnhorst and Tirpitz are solid choices for various reasons but if your only experience with battleships is the Hiei, which is tier 5, better buy something like the Texas or -at the most- Arizona or Warspite. You need battles under your belt of same tier to try premium t7s and t8s if u want to be succesful in them.

All three tech tree lines are solid but with different playstyles.

If u go US, try a concealment and A/A build (i.e. BFT for 3rd row cpt skill and CE for 4th).

For Germans secondary builds are the best choice IMO (AFT or/and manual secondaries for 4th row cpt skill)

IJN are good for tank builds (i.e. fire prevention for row 4)

Guys, tier 8 battles are filled with 3 to 5 german BBs per side, how the hell can you find that fun ? I stopped playing my own Tirpitz because of the over-boring gameplay. Seeing Amagi is almost rare in comparison...

Same here. Just checked and for my last 1500 battles I only played about 19% bbs (compared to 39% all time). My bismarck hasn't left port in ages. North cal I play once in a while to slowly continue to t10, but even then.

5bb versus 5bb at tier 8 (and any tier above that), generally with a *Edited load of bismarcks and or tirpitzes therein gets very old very soon, especially when playing bb oneself. I'm surprised not more people just don't do it anymore.

edit: lol, I just saw I even sold my bismarck for now, must have needed some credits. Would have never done that if not for the absolute tediousness.

Not sure if this is a troll post... only 3 battles in the last 3 months, all Hipper with a 100% wr and 69k av damage...hardly rubbish. You like playing battleships but have only 13 battles ever. Confusing. :amazed:

As long as you promise not to turn into one of the big clan of yamato-campers hidind in A10 og J10 or something like that the whole match, show up with full health when the team is dead only to get nuked from this planet, choose the line that you think match you playstyle. I would not recommend you to buy a premium bb if you have not grinded a line yet. Its much more than just spamming shells and its a learningprocess to get there...Im still learning and did not buy premium before I at least had grinded to the same tier in silvership.

I'd say grind at least one T8 battleship before making the purchase

I agree with this guy, you have some way to go before you purchase a T7/8 BB, I would grind US or German BB line first once you get to New Mexico or Bayern you will have tons of fun and hopefully improve your stats, but if you insist on buying a BB, then buy the Texas or Arizona and see how you get on with them.

Well, i suggest starting at Tier III in any line of BBs and work you way SLOWLY up.

Cause you are not doing very well in any ship you have. Your winrate might be good, your damage output in the Hiei is low.

Do us all the favour and do not buy a high tier premium BB, cause all you will achieve is *Edited over your team mates.

I also doubt that you'll have much fun in a high tier BB.

Start any line of BBs, the IJN line is quite nice ( except Kawachi) and from TV upwards pretty good.

Just make sure you grind the line slowly, as you have much to learn.

this.

even though OP seemed to have grinded german cruiser line and got to know t8 matchmaking a bit, i would recommend to grind at least up the tier in a line one may want to get a premium in and gather some experience before buy. also may consider that buying into hightier could get frustrating.

I'd appreciate it, if you guys wouldn't encourage OP with talks about premium BBs ( unless you recommend the Ishizushi).

He is simply not fit for TVIII and wouldn't be of any use to his team, and it will be not fun for them or him.

I strongly recommend grinding up one line of BBs.

Missouri, very fast, very stealthy for a BB with a stealth build, great guns which are accurate for a BB, and radar so you can push in and support caps.

Oh if the conversations on these forums could be transcribed to IRL situations...

Man walks into a motorcycle shop

"I want to buy a 1500cc superbike"

The salesman asks for his licence and sees he has had it for a week and has already crashed his moped 15 times

"uh sir, I would advise you didn't buy a large bike like that. You'll probably kill yourself with it"

Random passerby overhears

"That's elitism! He should be able to buy anything he wants! Also here's an awesome 2000cc bike that won the 24h Le Mans motorbike race last year, you should totally check it out!"

Bear in mind that in this scenario the random passerby in question is still riding a bicycle with stabilisers on and is wobbling along the pavement desperately trying to maintain control.

I had that kind of encounter with a camera salesman a few years back.

He so very clearly didn't want to sell me a Canon G12, since that was so very clearly far too good a camera for a guy like me. But he so very clearly couldn't outright refuse to sell it to me either, when I put money on the counter.

I could have explained to him that, sure, maybe I wasn't a skilled enough photographer, yet, to know how to put that camera to its full use, but I wanted something that would allow me to grow as a photographer, and that would keep pace with me as I improved my skills. But I doubt he would have understood what I was talking about.

Now, I'm sure I was going somewhere with how there is a moral to be gleaned from this, that goes for World of Warships, as well... :)

Buy a Kutuzov or Atago then. Fun and effective ships, and you'll stay in the cruiser gameplay. I wouldn't advice Prinz Eugen as it seems to be nothing more than a fat Hipper.

Don't buy a premium BB if your only experience is a tier 5. Especially since the Kongo sisters being fast battleships are a bit special.

(The guy above) : Look, there's nothing keeping you from buying a high tier ship. But if there's a tier progression, it's not for nothing. You're supposed to uses it to learn. Most line are progressive upgrade of the same gameplay.

Not to mention if you sell him the moped he has a better chance of surviving and that is repeat business. Yay capitalism.
