Get tier 6. Play with tier 8 until you rage sell it(unless you are one of those people who love to play with ships 2 tier higher because reasons).

 

I was going to buy Dunkerque but in the end never did because of the reason above.

Not that "experienced" but I love her!

 

1) she's a beauty

 

2) her guns hit hard if they hit (dispersion is a little trolly at times)

 

3) pen is not great but you get used to it (about Bayern level of penetration)

 

4) squishy so you need to be aware of what is going on around you

 

5) fast, great range decent trainer

 

I love mine - however opinions are split about her. I had a poor start but doing fine by now. I am even considering giving her a try for the next ranked.

Well, I like her. Great rudder shift time, feels mobile, good guns. Accuracy feels ok'ish. Her downsides are that she has no real AA, so you will be a good target for carriers. And it feels like she is lacking a bit of armour, especially on the bow when facing anything with a calibre greater than 356 mm.

 

However, I would contradict Geralt_z_Rivii365. Of all tier 6 BBs she might be the best (maybe besides the Bayern) for getting uptiered. You can "tank" as much as other BBs but your guns can hurt tier 7 and 8 BBs, because you basically have the guns that are used by tier 7, 8 and 9 IJN BBs (at least in terms of calibre).

 

Overall I feel she is worth it. I try to get her daily bonus every day to train my captains.

I was thinking about buying Mutsu too because of the discount. However, is the worst performing tier 6 premium ship.

I've always been somewhat tempted by Mutsu. She's quite different from the other tier VI with that huge gun calibre, I imagine she can overmatch bow armour quite happily with 410mm guns . She may be weak against CVs but with the appropriate escort say a Cleveland I think she'll do just fine.

I say yes, just a fun ship to play. And the torps might be gimmicky but they catch quite a few people out in brawls, only takes one hit to cause a flood. I'd say one on one she can take any BB in her tier, whether that translates to gameplay is another thing.

It's an enjoyable BB.

 

The armour is certainly NOT squishy vs it's own tier. It deals with 14" guns extremely well as I imagine that's what the real one was roughly designed to do. Every T6 other than Bayern is going to suffer from 15"/16" guns greatly so Mutsu is no squisher than any other of her kin.

 

Torp hits are more than possible since you can fire them so quickly. Just throw them out mid rudder shift and don't worry too much about targeting. 

 

The guns lose power at longer ranges but hit very hard when close up. Some may flame me but consider peppering enemy BBs at longer ranges with HE if they don't give you broadsides. It may surprise you how much HE spam stings them.

Dunkerque is the best T6 BB for being shoved in constant T8 game I feel. It has speed and very effective turret placements. No other BB at T6 has Dunker's speed and you can simply run away & heavily angle vs big scary T8 BBs. Sure you might not survive ultimately but you'll last longer than any other T6 BB, maybe even long enough for your team to help you out.

Arizona is slow... Can never run away or change sides effectively. It punishes bad positioning. Can't always predict the course of a game. I do like the Arizona very much however as it's got well behaved guns yes.

As top or equal tier Mutsu armour is great. Has Warspite syndrome if you ask me. Stands up well when on top but there isn't much you can do vs say NC or Amagi except hope RNG favours you. I've been halved in my Mutusu plenty of times

You are right in a way. However her curved trajectory produce citadel hits on US BBs at long range reliably. And she is special by being a 1920s layout which is rare in this game.

T6 BBs are well balanced for their own tier. Almost all have their own strengths and nothing seems to stand out as OP or the go to BB.

If you go centre the low speed is not that big of a deal. Arizona is pretty good I agree

If you are an experienced (Decent) BB player then Mutsu is a fabulous ship !

 

I've always been somewhat tempted by Mutsu. She's quite different from the other tier VI with that huge gun calibre, I imagine she can overmatch bow armour quite happily with 410mm guns . She may be weak against CVs but with the appropriate escort say a Cleveland I think she'll do just fine.

 

Sensible use of the Overmatch mechanic IS the modus operandi of Mutsu, also long range plunging fire on Bismark / Tirpitz gives a surprising number of Citadel hits on these ships.

Best use of Mutsu, is early game advance to the weaker flank, engage superior enemy numbers at range, close to 12km, get turned around then retreat, using over the shoulder fire at 1/2 speed. Allow those pesky Torpedo equipped KM BB to close to 6 KM, wait for them to start trying to use torps and hit them along the Upper Belt and watch those damage numbers mount.

 

So, all in all, Mutsu is a great ship if played to her strengths (Guns, Angling, Torps, Speed), But a not so great ship if you are used to close range brawling.

 

Had mine since Day 1, would I buy her again?? In a heartbeat..... YES !

 

As for performance, here is a snapshot from today showing how she performs, well for me anyway!

I love her! Can deal enormous damage to any tier VI ship. Keep distance and unleash hell. It's like stock Nagato at tier VI + you have torps as a last stand option.

As for the Mutsu, the ship is okay to good, but the matchmaking at tier6 is really awful. Then again yesterday I got to sink a North Carolina with my torps, that was a fun moment
