Hood not worth the cash

Sorry to say its not worth the money you pay for it, it sadly under performs in gunnery  in 2 different battles  I had enemy ships broadside to me within  6-8 km and lucky if i scored 6-7 k with a full broadside, now this happened twice in 2 different games, its sadly under powered , so my advice do not buy it till they fix it.

I never bought the bundle for the Hood anyway, bought it for the flags, gold and Captain.

 

Now I've finished the campaign, gone back to Warspite.

I saw some server stats, it was doing fine there... but ofc, stats are saying nothing, personal experience is much indicative of how a ship is performing

The bundle's more than worth its cash value. Stop conflating the 100 euro bundle as being Hood's actual ship value. The ship itself is probably worth 30++ euros as a standalone and I can tell you it's more than worth it for that price.

I think she is quite good, yes the shells do under-peform. They are not the same as the Warspites. However you have a MASSIVE health pool in the Hood, so even if you do only 6-7k of damage per salvo. It will add up as time passes, especially with that high survivability. Overall, she is balanced. I feel she performs just fine.

I do like the Hood but I'm  abrawler, always miss the Warspite's secondaries. As a mobile tank and cruiser killer, the Hood is a nice ship

I have played like 20-30 battles on Hood and I m been satisfied to Hood even it hit and shoot like gneisenau, but this ship absolutely came one of my favorite ship. I had near 10 winning streak on my Hood matches and each matches I did like around 100k dmg. I know, that this ship doesn't fit for some players.

Even I paid 100e for this bundle, but I don't regret my choice. Doubloons filled my month premium + free xp for tier 8 French cruiser and rest to save for future use.

Do you know how overpen mechanism is working ? 6-8 km range is perfect for AP of destroyers and some cruisers, but huge AP shells of BB will overpen in many cases cruisers citadel on such short distance. The less armor has citadel of enemy - the more chance of overpen. So it's much better make shots on angled targets in that situation. Mayby you don't even hitted citadel area, but ex. belt over citadel, so overpen is quaranteed.

 

I don't have Hood, but have Warspite. For him golden distance to citadel most cruisers going broadside is something like >11-12 km.

30+ battles and I am loving the Hood. Is she better than the Warspite? Hmmm i'm not so sure. I love both of them for different reasons. If the Hood had Wars secondaries I would marry her but then she'd be OP I think. Both ships do things well so I'll cop out and say they are both great. Hood is totally worth it, still having some salvos miss completely but there is a trick to the aiming and with my current scores it is paying itself off very nicely indeed

Soon I will have the Hood camo as well but a camo without the ship don't know if I should buy the ship to the camo now .... maybe later or not since I don't need it.

Do not just look at damage and win rates - Hoods main USP is (besides looks) her speed, many that whines just speak of guns. You can not compare a Colorados ability against a BB in 1 vs 1 with the Hood as Colorado do not have the flexibility.

The ship itself is quirky but I love her. That speed is great, the AA is hilarious and she is tanky.

 

Sure she shoots drunkenly but with adrenaline rush just keep shooting. You'll hit something eventually.

I think Hood is definitely worth it. A matter of personal preference I guess. Scharnhorst has been called a great ship but with some exceptions I do crap in it, with Hood it's the opposite (mind you I've not played them that much). Her speed can be very usable to get into safety, heal up and re-engage for example.

 

As for the camo's I use the plain historical one. I really don't like the "Arizona" one, if I had a cheaper bundle without the plain skill I likely wouldn't use camo at all. The "Repulse" one doesn't look too bad, but that's not historical so a big no for me.

Welcome to the gameplay of every BB, not just the Hood. Even if your opponents show you full broadside at 5-15km, you still might hit them for 1k or so

Na its just I find if I aim higher than I normally would I find I get the hits I want. So for example in the Warspite I aim at the waterline and in the Hood I aim quarter to halfway up the hull. If I aim more at the waterline all apart from maybe one shell hit the water which is a waste. I'd rather get overpens than nothing at all.

Yeah. I aim a bit higher and also ripple fire and avoid salvoes. Take into account turning cruisers. Banana salvoes working well.
