I have been playing this game for over a year, mainly in cruisers as i love the fast moving fast firing gameplay, sometimes DD and only rarely BB. i dislike the style of BB play, slow slow slow and my DD play is pants. I now admit defeat, totally sick and tired of being BLASTED by every BB everytime i open fire. The only way to survive is either stay at max range and dodge like a ballet dancer or hide in smoke. I cannot count the times i have been behind friendly BB, and enemy BB will ignore them to get the easy cruiser kill. Today i fired at an enemy BB 18k away, 2 friendly BB were pummelling him at 5k and he ignored them to blast me, just WTF ! I just finished a game where again BB ignored our BB as soon as they see a cruiser ! \\\

Until recently i did fairly well in cruisers but lately all i seem to do is die !

I am now gonna start playing only BB so i can at least survive an occasional battle. I hate that it has come to this but there it is.

Well if you play just one class out of four, then ultimately the game very has little to offer in the way of content, more so since the game is basically a very simple game, which is bound to get boring eventually.

P.S.: I don't bite the common bait "BB are too numerous and too OP", which is partially true, but too simplistic in essence.

Why are you putting so much emphasis on survival rate?

I have even lower survivability in CAs than you, yet I am still having great fun with them :) Though, I tend to focus on mid and close ranges and very rarely sail at max range.

As long as your play (regardless of death) helped your team win, why should you care if you get occasionally deleted by BBs?

Lets be honest you surviving a battle in a BB (which you claim you do not like to play) will not make the match any more fun.

Well focusing cruisers as a BB player is the best thing you can do at the start. BB is a tank the same way as it is in RPG.The best thing for the enemy team you can do is actually shooting their BBs at the start. IN THEORY: Cruisers deliver constant DPM (fires, rate of fire) while BBs are used to start the engagement with big volleys or finishing damaged ships. The basic of succesfull BB gameplay is picking targets. There is really no reason to exchange shells with other (well angled) BB while there is broadsided cruiser in range. So killing the cruisers lowers enemy team DPM dramaticaly and leads usually to victory.

I play cruisers mostly and there are few survability rules I am trying to follow.

1) everytime you are being focused try to disengage (get out of sight). You should always fight in range that allows you to get unspotted when you are in trouble.

2) never try to fight a BB 1 on 1 (exceptions -  toptier cruisers against lowtier BBs). Try to find situations when enemy BB is occupied with somebody else or being focused by many ships.

3) use "situational awareness" perks like priority target (it is a must for a cruiser) + alter course every time. Slowing down is not recommended for cruisers. Improve your dodging abilities and get unspotted when enemy starts hitting you.

4) hold your shots when there is too many enemy ships nearby. Being spotted first leads to be focused by the entire enemy team. Especially at the start of the battle try to be safe. The longer you survive, the bigger possible impact on battle. Use islands, wait for your BBs to engage, shoot ships under fire of multiple vessels.

5) never be on the point of attack when there are BBs present. There are very few situations when cruiser can push into BB.

6) learn hit and run tactics - be unspotted, shoot few volleys, turn out, get unspotted... repeat. If you are difficult target, the enemy ships will stop shooting at you and they will switch to different target.

You make a fair point, i am just tired of being focus fired by BB all the time when there are far better targets closer. I am not too fussed about surviving the battle or about stats. Thanks guys for replies, maybe i just need to up my game a bit.

Cheers very much.

Well, I look at it like this : just have fun. If you're not having fun with what you're doing... go do something else.

What cruiser do you most like to play? And you're just having a low point in the game that is all its all up an up from here. You talk about smoke so maybe you're in an RN ship? I have been on the recieving end of BBs in my cruiser time and yes it can be rather disheartening but as has been said above I think you are putting too much emphasis on staying alive rather than the cliched "having fun". It is a slippery slope in my opinion because you focus on staying alive, you die, your confidence is hit, you die again, you start getting further and further from a battle, you die some more, you post it on the forums. The further you get the more likely a BB will do more damage to you than you can do to it (apart from the Zao or Moskva to be honest). Maybe consider changing your current positioning on maps to get up in there with the DDs? Ok you may still not survive much but you have a good chance of getting some good kills, damage or hell some bloody good fun. And if all else fails. Take a deep breath, exit the match (if you're dead) and go make a cuppa (or alcoholic beverage). Nothing worse than getting annoyed at a game that you enjoy. Don't worry about it buddy, we have all been there/here :honoring: chin up old chap.

No idea why people believe that cruisers have to be survivable.

If they were more survivable, they'd be BBs... ^^

I'm looking forward to the day the approach air traffic controller handling traffic gives up!?!

What kind of lazy attitude is that? Now you goddamn hang on by your finger tips and fight, otherwise we cannot use you, and you can join the plebs in monkey-class :izmena:

I hope OP runs Priority Targeting as a #1 urgent skill pick.

Otherwise it's

Or maybe OP is one of those Pepsi players that sails broadside and ends up as First Blood. Mysteriously appearing in every game

Actually I'm going to say stop playing cruisers for a bit and play something else.

Play bb or even play CV.

The reason I say this is that when I play one class of ship a lot of tend to find myself doing the same things, going to the same places, anticipating the same reaction from enemies.

Yes I get to know the ship very well but I also get bad habits. Playing a different class can break that up a bit, give me some new ideas.

With bb you get 20+ seconds to look around after every shot. In CV you get a bird's eye view of the battle.

Try 50 games in a different class and see how you feel then.

Playing cruisers was your mistake they're useless.

The use of a class often depends on the skill of the player. Different classes require different skills. I suck hard at CVs. Others can dominate complete games with them. Cruisers are very potent ships, but very fragile aswell. To be successfull in a cruiser requires a lot of situational awarness and a great overview of battle developement and enemy positions. In my opinion, the success of a cruiser depends on the first minutes of the match. If the cruiser can stay undetected and BBs push together with the rest of the team, drawing attention and fire, cruisers can support and look out for opportunities.

Do the BBs go for borderhugging and camping, leaving the brawling business to the fragile units, defeat is almost a given.

Too many players just don´t have a clue about the responsibilities that lie in their chosen class. The more players ignore those responsibilities, the more frustrating a match developes...

You need Incoming not Priority, which is far less usefull of the two because a single savlo from a single ship can wreck you.

I'm not sure, depending on situation I would rather know how many are aiming at me or when someone aims at me rather than the fact they have just fired. Gives more time to get out of dodge or plan your next move. Having a sign saying you're about to get hit feels less useful than someone is about to fire at you.

i have a simple way to target each class when I'm in my bb and its

dd within 10km and your priority target for me as your my greatest threat

cruiser within 15km and yup your gonna get some love coming

and bbs your getting them love shells all the time

now don't get me wrong here cos I also will target a cruiser at 18km if they are low health and 1 shot will kill em but I will always prioritise targets as to greatest threat at the moment

Don't really agree her. Example, cruiser abusing terrain features ( Mino or DM as prime example ), by knowing how many people are aiming at me I know if I need to start moving slightly or not. Usually once BB sees the little mountain icon appear when trying to shoot you they switch targets anyways. Plus, I assume that if I'm being targetted by any ship for more than a few seconds, that shells are incoming.

I use priority target so i know when to bug out. Incoming fire alert while useful only tells me someone has fired, while a useful bit of info i always asume everyone is firing at me anyway !

To be fair full broudside in a Pepsi is any angle to a BB and anything not bow on or rear on I'm most other CA/CL. Plus you can avoid showing your side when your outraged by up to 7 km and outnumbered by your natural enemy. Plus they need to be lucky only once at any range....

I play cruisers manly because they are challenging. And I find my rate to be alive at the end of the game quite good. But being the focus of all enemies is sometimes frustrating. Recently I had 7  enemies aiming for me with only 8 of them alive. And still my group had 6 survivers at that time. But of those 6 there were 4 BBs and 1 not detected DD. Poor me.

It's not only BBs that are aiming at you first. But also cruisers and DDs. And if you are low on health. Also the CVs.

But if you survived a massive attack you feel so proud and cocky.
