Karma, reporting, the whole Shebang.

I am a man of principle. Always have been so and most likely always will be. So it truly drives me up the freaking wall when every 3rd match or so I receive several reports or even more, my record being 19 after I managed to anger three smoke-sitting Kutuzov's in a division. Sometimes it is simply because a team-mate of mine decided that the effort I have put in was not enough to carry us to victory, and he would proclaim that I am a "noob", I can accept that and I would not respond. In many more cases it is because I have angered a young chair admiral, or maybe he considered me a cheater and would fling 4 reports my way. In majority of cases though, it is simply because the other person is uneducated. Today, a member of a Polish clan that shall not be named has proclaimed that I am a Nazi [edited]after I had sunk him, and that he really cannot stand the Germans. I am not even German, just my in-game alias is. I took it jokingly as I was in a good mood, and so I've sent a kind-worded message to the leader of their clan, saying that some of your mates ought to calm down, to which he replied that perhaps I am a flee-ridden Jew instead. :teethhappy:

Two things.

First. I can tolerate the competitive trash-talking, it is always fun to bash each others tactics on the battlefield, I am known for receiving chat-bans every weekend, and I mean every weekend. Just do not get carried away. Perhaps Wargaming's "Misbehaviour in chat" report function should be more fleshed out? I find it silly that I receive a chat-ban every other day for calling someone who torpedoed my ship while being on MY team a "thundercunt", and in most cases I've said it jokingly, while folks who type truly inappropriate content into that stupid little green window just walk away  I would think that it requires a closer human inspection for keeping the uneducated from spreading their... "ideas", and also from keeping me chat-banned, being unable to talk in the group channels for saying "Oh come on", then some thundercunt launches 7 reports my way, and by the end of the game I cannot chat for another 24 hours. Not that I have said anything even remotely wrong, but the game sees that I have used the chat function, so there you go, pow, you shall be silent now. :izmena:

Second. You receive an immense amount of negative points just for upsetting a troll, and it should not be so, it is highly disappointing receiving 19 reports after sinking a division so splendidly. I know it is not important, they mean nothing and they are worthless, but like I said I am a man of principle, and I would hope that before karma has an impact on your game (as stated by WG that it will in the future) it will work better.

Care to throw in your two cents? Feel free to do so. If not, call me a big crying baby and carry on. :coin:

The whole "karma thing" and "report system" is just a useless piece of code introduced by WG only to "vent the frustration".

It is so subjective and abused that I can't believe it has any real effect - apart from quite random auto-banning people from the chat for 24 hours.

I read that "misbehaviors in chat" are not counted if the target didn't write anything on chat, and I really hope WG ignores consecutive identical reports sent by one player.

Anyway, one still could be reported for bad play, botting and chat misbehavior, so one triple division can hand over -9 points ;)

The karma points system is one of the biggest failures introduced to the game. As you have found out, doing well can lead to negative points in karma (from salty players), and has proved to be more of a lemon than a useful addition. The amount of battles you do, you are bound to come across more salt than others so just suck it up buttercup! <-(tongue in cheek!) :)

I reckon I saw one player last night who will have received more reports in one game than any other. From the very start, he just pressed the F keys continually in All chat until eventually he was killed. It completely ruined the game for both teams and our team eventually told the opposition where he was, as he wasn't fighting but sailed to a map edge. I had thought you could block this but it didn't seem to work. I would be surprised if everyone didn't give him any reports they had - and quite right too!

Report play bad is just a tool to vent anger.  report chat can get an actual chat ban but who cares.

Karma is a useless tool usally something bad happens you are more likely to take action. Plus it's not displayed Iin a visible way. have 100 karma and not that active in chat took me 2 years but who cares? Not like it's give you any benefit.

I will wager he was a devil from tasmania

I feel the OP's pain, injustice is something I cannot stand either.

I remember when I was about 8 years old that I got 'told off' for talking in class when it wasn't even me. So, Mrs House (genuine teacher's name, f you're reading this which is ever so slightly unlikely, but just in case) I haven't forgotten you and my revenge will be forthcoming. However, as I've just turned the wrong side of 50 I do feel time is running out for me and probably already has done for you. But nonetheless, I have not forgotten....

I give compliments every single day...

But I suspect that in general.... there is truth in what you say..

I was having a pretty awesome battle yesterday, good communication with the whole team, I gave a bit of orientation ( caps to take) and when the dds for example should smoke and who they should, stuff like that, some where even asking for it. The BBs where tanking like hell, dds covering them up, cruisers going for the dds, perfect. Was having a blast of a battle. At the end I told my team that I would compliment them with all compliments I got and they said they would do so too. Ended up as the 2nd in team with my Tirpitz, went to port, got reported once, no compliments. The report was comming from a guy in the enemy team claiming I was using a bot to avoid torps. Just told him a bit of skill and sometimes luck is all you need. Well. So I came out of a battle that I carried with others, did all I could, was friendly, helping, supporting and went out with -1. Karma is working as intended....

I get reported every day. Most when i carry the team. It's normal.

Maybe you should tell everyone to go C on 'Faultline' :sceptic:

But yeah, the current Karma system seems to be made to be abused and salty players and trolls alike have taken to that with gusto.

Not that I'd be completely free of that shame as I do give out reports for bad play when I see something that's just unbelievably stupid (in particular maxrange borderhumping BBs tend to get a report for bad play because I'm utterly fed up with that crap) or botting (either obvious bots or matchlong AFKers).

But I also try to compliment good play when I see someone is doing what is needed (even if it doesn't end with them getting topscore or whatnot, if it was crucial to do and they did it, they get a compliment) or in case of CVs if they simply do their job correctly (spotting ships, DDs in particular, whenever they can, trying to intercept enemy CV strikes, etc.) since sadly I see few CVs that actually bother to play for the team rather than try and wh*** damage for themselves with no care for their allies.

I do check my Karma after almost every match though, just to see if I was complimented or more hilariously: got reported (since I typically don't flame in chat, reports are almost exclusively from salty losers), which I consider a mark of honour :medal:

Ok so I've been playing this since Alpha and I give compliments and report where appropriate (I think) but just where, exactly, do you see your karma score?

In the very least, they could remove the option to report/compliment the players on the enemy team.

Go to your profile in game and it's a small number that's displayed next to your name like an exponent. The screenshot doesn't capture the mouse pointer but I'm hovering it over the karma value here to bring up the tool tip.

Only 19? Only explanation for that is that one player of that three player division already used two of his reports. 21 is absolutely par for the course. At this point I tend to be actually a bit disappointed if I don't get my 21 after sinking all 3 of the buggers. And truth be told, the shenanigans have lead me to actively hunting down divisions, whenever I happen to score a first kill on one of them. Depending on mood, I may taunt them a bit too. You know... make them come to me and all that. Works quite well actually, so recommended procedure. Of course, sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you, but wtf? It's only a rather silly game, triggering some beeps who make it about their ego is just adding to the fun.

i totally agree ! i made a ticket the other day my karma was at 49 and in the space of three days "starting at the easter holidays" i'm now down to 25 karma! so i made a ticket and sent a bunch of time stamped replays explaining to them how broken there karma system is ! reported for playing well, reported for not following that lone dd into a cap right at the start reported by a team killer who torped me because i called him pinky and to learn how to use torps and so on and so on! out of holidays and weekends karma goes up , holidays and weekends karma goes down. it's just a crappy thought out broken system . i'd also like the system in wot where 1 player can only report 1 player once and no more . that would settle it out a bit . i hate those idiots that spam all there reports on one player, if there is one thing that shows the report system doesn't work it's that! one player giving another player 7 reports and it takes 7 karma points from you !!! gj wg

I just got banned for pointing out that B+C doesn't mean everybody should lemming-train to C leaving me alone to cap B. They also said "do your job" haha, 5 ships, 2 radar cruisers pushed into cap, but noooo ... no shots fired at them, lets spam on that front tanking yamato from 18km over there.
