I'm playing it on an i5-3x laptop with integrated graphics, and it goes at 40fps and is perfectly stable. Who plays this game for the scenery? Ships, guns, things going "boom", what else do you need to see?

New setup is: I7 7700k @ 5,4Ghz, 64GB 3200mhz ram, 2 x 1080Ti, ASUS ROG Maximus IX Extreme. Disk`s are: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD as an OS drive Samsung 960 Pro 1TB M.2 PCIe SSD as a game drive And some normal HDD for etc things. So a BIG middle finger up for WG for messing up the coding in the game. clap clap clap great job numbnuts!

You'll see confusingly named gfx and cpu that sound good but actually suck... [SCRUB] AgarwaenME Beta Tester 4,811 posts 13,808 battles Report post #15 Posted April 22, 2017 The only real reason to have more than a gtx 1070 at the moment, is to play in 4k or VR atm. And investing in one now for games coming in 1-2 years is just throwing money away as you could buy a similar performance card for half the price next year instead. As for the OP, WoWs runs perfectly well on 3-4 year old setups, unless as mentioned above you want to run it at higher resolutions. The only thing it desperately needs is to be running from an SSD. DBoZ_Skyline Players 85 posts 5,346 battles Report post #16 Posted April 22, 2017 (edited) Sadly no... I have the Acer Predator Cruved LED G-Sync X34A.. And I dont even like that monitor..... terrible backlight bleed... But I am hoping that sometime around may month this year there will be some good 4k screens comming from either AOC, Asus or Acer. ( without that backlight bleed ) The only real reason to have more than a gtx 1070 at the moment, is to play in 4k or VR atm. And investing in one now for games coming in 1-2 years is just throwing money away as you could buy a similar performance card for half the price next year instead. Well.. that is a truth with modifications. For pure gaming yes a high end vid-card setup in sli is only really needed for 4k or VR with ultra details. But I also use it for more than gaming. And for wasting money.. also a truth with modification. If you update the vid-cards when the next high end card(s) come out you just sell the "old" ones for a nice prize. And the new cards then dont cost mutch. Edited April 22, 2017 by DBoZ_Skyline

Just adding a GTX1070 will help but it will be bottlenecked by the CPU and Mobo in my mind. So do I wait to see how the new Ryzens pan out or go with the i5-6700??, bearing in mind my max budget is £500.

So do I wait to see how the new Ryzens pan out or go with the i5-6700??, bearing in mind my max budget is £500. I'm quoting from a comparison review of Ryzen versus i5.... "The problem is, people don’t want complicated answers. They want simple answers and they want you to pick for them. In that case, Ryzen 5 is the way to go. It burns Core i5 to the ground in multi-threaded applications performance and doesn’t give up much in single-threaded performance."

Get a desktop if you have the room. Gaming laptops have issue of barely adequate cooling, which means it get hot AND noisy. If one wants something reasonably portable, miniITX case with full graphics support might be an option, though cooling is still on "barely adequate" side.
