Make Karma more visible

So last night I had a string of bad teams but on my second to last game I planned to play there was this guy who was doing well (against the odds). I had worked hard so far and was low HP so I ran over and smoked him up, just spotted for him, he said thank you, we clawed the game back, he followed and supported me against the last enemy DDs while I scouted for them and their torps, and we won. I complimented him and I figured since I wasn't going to play much more I may as well send him all 7 compliments I had available so they don't go to waste. I didn't realise he would get a notification but it seems he did and he must have worked out it was me because he sent me a message after the battle being really humble and thankful and I just thought... Isn't this great? We need more players like this guy.

And then I realised, most of the time compliments just go into this black hole, this tiny number hidden on your profile that nobody can ever see. It's awful!

That Karma number needs to be in huge font on the team screen in every match, with banners on your name that get more elaborate the higher the number is. It needs to be on all the various stats pages. People need to know who's a nice guy and who isn't, and they need to know their little tokens of appreciation aren't going to waste. It doesn't need to give any reward, or status or anything but it's such a great system to create little incentives for players to be nicer, to make everyone feel better about their games... If only it was used properly! It needs to be seen!

If it were visible in match. I would know who to report.

He would not stay on radar for long.

I bet you salty players would be bombing them with reports.

So you could rage at the start of the match more?

Karma is useless. If you did well in the battle the enemies will report you. Is it your fault?

I think anything involving karma should not be done before system gets fixed. Karma s horribly broken and abused on regular basis.

Karma visible in team screen is only going to be invitation for people to report you just for the sake of getting it lower...

What is this Karma thing and why do we have it?

I must confess, I haven't even been able to find the Karma score on my profile. Where is it displayed?

I wholeheartedly agree that nice people and good players should be appreciated in the game! I always try to compliment people for playing good, or just being plain nice, in the battle chat. But I have read enough posts about people being down-karmaed out of spite, simply for playing a good game and sinking some enemy ships, to be cautious about drawing any kind of conclusions from such a number. There was even a guy that wrote, on this forum, that he always reports artillery players in WoT simply for playing artillery.

Karma at the moment is e-peen exclusive which means people will report others because:

- Theirs is bigger.

- They use it better.

- Other player is too small.

- Don't like the look of it.

Also to note that until recently it can be easily be abused (not sure if they fixed it meanwhile).

In the situation the OP describes I think the best thing one can do is a quick message in chat "good work! congrats" which to me seems a lot nicer than a +1 karma click.

I regularly report people on my own team.

I regularly forget to compliment good players (either on my own team or the enemy).

Be nice if you got more notification of a compliment or a report though.  I don't think they need to be shown off to other players but knowing if you have received one would be nice.  As it is, it's not eays to see them.

Look for it in client. Small number next to your username in  profile/ service record.

karma means nothing , who need it , when for good play, players fake report you anyway

Well, it's a nice gesture I think. If I see people doing well, I do compliment them. Dunno, reacting to team requests, providing smoke, concentrating fire..

This is how I do it as well, apart from communicating in the battle chat (which I am often too weak in my keyboard-fu to do properly in the heat of battle).

It would be great to have "Flash" in the middle of screen, with sound effect,  when returning to port, so that you notice you were complimented by someone. Would have positive impact..   but I don't think they should be visible for others...

I report:

AS CVs, they are useless 99% of the time.

Insults in chat, its just annoying.

Friendly fire.

Torps from second line (even if they dont hit)

Long range snipah.

Players going D on North map

I compliment:

Strike CVs

Players doing their job, DDs smoking/spotting, Cruisers giving air support, radar, BBs pushing, CVs melting stuffs and spotting.

A player who carry a game.

Players giving helpfull advise on chat.

Funny jokes.

But the system is totally broken, I write in chat "Lol Kraken" and I get a lot of repots (maximum was 12) from a 3 guys division...

Wow, so much negativity!

Sure, there are salty losers who will report for the sake of it but there are also nice people. If the system was more visible the nice people would also have a reason to compliment more so it would even out. Who knows, it might even make some people less salty if they see their good actions get compliments.

Karma is that level V IJN destroyer, right?   I think their visibility is fine.

Id rather have an AS CV on my team that knows how to spot, and renders the enemy team's TB's useless than have an equally capable CV player with torps and DB's... but that's just me... anyway I think its absurd to auto report people like that.

Visible karma would most likely lead to people reporting those who have plenty of it, just as others have already pointed out.

However, I would like to have compliment/report information included in the after battle screen. Currently you have no way of knowing in which game you did receive compliment/report. A simple "You received x compliments and y reports in this game" text somewhere in the after battle screen would be sufficient.

Karma is totally flawed I had a game last week where I ended up scoring more than twice as much as anyone on my "team" but because someone in one of the divisions(and Clan)deemed me at fault for the loss him and his 2 mates neg-repd me and the other division also did so I dropped by 5 while high scoring. Basically what would happen is people will just upvote their mates in games, as happened in World of Tanks while in many ways adding Clans offers a lot to many players, it also adds a level of negativity too and for those of us not in a clan, it's not a move for the better(although I guess it's a price worth paying).

There seems to be no point (for me at least) to make Karma more visible if it´s absolutely useless.

They should rework it first or let it be^^

Ok, I agree they could improve it. Here's an idea. Do not allow downvotes, but have it gradually bleed away over time. So the only people who have high Karma are those that got it recently and keep getting it.

My Idea would be:

Allow the players to compliment(upvote)/report(downvote) each other player in his match one time.

That means if a player gets 5 upvotes and 3downvotes in one match, he will get one positive karma point after the match.

However, if he gets only 3 upvotes and 5 downvotes, he will loose one karma point after the match.

So you can´t loose 20 karma points just because you ruined the day for some others.
