Will there be a "Submarine" class added

Will there be a "Submarine" class added to the game since we had the "April fools" update with a Submarine, was that a test to see if people would like them as a future update??

The devs were VERY clear about this.

The words doesn't matter. The marketing does.

 

There are so many people ask for subs and I think they will appear in the game. In some way - as a bots or controlled or in convoys. But they will.

There might be some PvE event or game mode added in the future but they will never make it in to Randoms.

 

Pretty much this, also they are slow, slow enough to make Colorado look fast. So no point on playing them.

Please no subs, you gave us 1 for a laugh, and it crashed a lot of players games, be smart OP, just ask for things like fixing keybinding first.

Dynamic ( objective driven ) pve scenario's could very well have enemy submarines in them, but god no not player controlled subs in normal gamemodes unless WG wants to go full World of Warplanes... you never want to go full World of Warplanes!

Ask the question: Why not?

And: How do we implement them properly?

 

See the opportunities, instead of the restrictions.

 

I'd love to see them, they'd make a nice addition to the game. There are a lot of considerations to make first, one is a certain group of people crying every time they get hit by something they cannot see :trollface:

No because game engine doesn't allow it currently. It takes a major change to implement submarines gameplay.

 

Other reason is.. submarines in immersion go veeery slowly, this would change completely the game dynamics (think of a ship that goes, in immersion, 10knots or less). 

Furthemore submarine war is naturally sneaky, more suited to attack convoys or parked ships than fight in open battles (however that could be questionable so take it only as a minor consideration).

Interestingly, you could see the April Fools sub stats when it was in the port. It had something like 10 knots speed, 2km detection range with 6km torps and something like 2K hp. Sounds like a horrible mix of min-max values that would ultimately, imo, be unfun to play with or against and be a massive pain to balance.

As one who really appreciates the detailed models of the ships, especially the later additions, I doubt I could play a game where all I had to look at was a slow moving stick poking out the water.

None of the ships in WoWs are really realistic anyway :popcorn:

 

Ofcourse, a 9 knot submerged Gato-class, 10 knot U-class, 8 knot Type VII, 9 knot S-class.... would be really hard to implement in a game where everyone is doing 3x the speed. Though they tend to do 2x speed when on the surface.

 

I was pointing out the possibilities, not the restrictions :B

 

Oh, and I'd pay for premium subs :P

If it was up to me I would suggest that a submarine captain  would have controle 4 to 6 subs in 1 game. It would be a game style between a CV and a battleship. Controlling only 1 slow moving sub would be as boring as hell. But trying keeping your eye on more than 3 sub would be very challenging. Moving and planning on the map. But attacking like a sub through a periscope. Ofcourse there would be only 2 sub captains max in 1 team in pvp like CV's.
