Bad Mannered non-English speaking players & "F" Keys Question

Hi all,

I had dozens of matches now where I've pressed the F10 at the start once everyone starts moving and no-one presses F4 (Thank You) yet the chat is full of non-English chat, so I was wondering if you are a non-English speaker and someone presses the F10 key at a start of a match, does it say "Good Luck and Fair Sea's" in your native language?

When the chat is full of English speaking people I tend to find you get more F4 Thank You's too which made me wonder if the "F" key Text was language specific.

As a British person who was brought up with manners, politeness and told to be courteous from a young age, I find it very difficult to understand how people can't be bothered, through laziness, bad manners etc, to press the bloody F4 key once in a while! :D

Oh boy. You really think that the brits are more polite than others? That is kinda hillarious. Looks like that there are many things to learn for you out there. Welcome to online gaming, buddy.

I never respond to those F quick messages. If you really care about being nice, write a short sentence down, even a "Have fun guys" is better than the F BS which take the place of much more important coms like "Going to radar/hydro", "Smoke's up if needed" which should be there instead.

As you mostly play PvE are you really surprised no one answers you?.....especially the enemy. :P

Wow, this forum :D

So 3 replies without any being an answer to the only thing being asked in the OP.

1 Reply about the gameplay mode I prefer from what I'm guessing is a "stat checker". BTW it's a 50/50 split between PvE & PvP with around 1300 games in both.

1 Reply rhetorically asking "You really think that the brits are more polite than others?" when I said nothing of the sort. I deliberately said "English Speakers" and not "British people" to avoid that claim as there is a difference (it's in the un-editable quote from Bushwacker too in case some think I've altered the OP).

1 Reply who is quite happy to show what I would consider to be "bad manners" (ignoring a F10 press in the first 20 seconds of a match) but at least he's honest about his reasons.

Why can't people just be Nice to each other, just for 20 minutes, please!

I don't really value canned messages like these unless they actually convey useful information.

If someone actually writes something nice I'll write something nice back.

But to your question. Yes, if you are running the game with a supported language then the quick-messages are also displayed in that language.

You have to consider there are different social conventions for different social arenas. Multiplayer games in the WOWS variant with fairly short matches it's fairly unusual for people to bother about exchanging pleasantries as they're not there for the people but the gameplay. There's little social exchange because it's not about being social in these kinds of games.

For many, it's about testing your skills against other players, that's why people play otherwise repetitive games, because it's fun to play against a human that actually can surprise you. They are just there to play a game they enjoy, the fact that there are are other people does not mean that they want anything to do with them (not saying I'm like this as I often write random nonsense as I enjoy having a short chats with other people, but I don't necessarily expect any replies).

This is less akin to you sitting at your bridge club and people refusing to answer you and more like you showing up at a football match and starting to talk to complete strangers.

I don't know if you're "older" ( a lot of WOWS players tend to be older than the average gamer) but this isn't something unusual in multiplayer games, brit or no brit.

There's also the point Nechrom put forth that canned messages just feel insincere and lazy that I never bother to answer them. However, I usually answer to stuff like "GL&HF" or "Have a fun match" etc.

I don't know the button for either good luck or thanks.  Pressing a button for that seems lazy to me and expecting a reply is sad.  Complaining about a lack of reply is just...

The only message I do use is F3.  Otherwise I'll discuss what the team is trying to do.

Hello mate. I can´t agree more. Have seen so many times here on the forum. People ask something polite. And get jumped on right away. And the first people do is to check stats. THEN they answer . Tell how bad you are and so on. :( When someone say Good luck to me in game or in irl so do i answer with a THANK YOU. It´s common sense. And Polite.

But very few seems to understand that.

Have a great day all :):honoring:

And no. am no Brit. Am a Swede. :P

HMS "Glorious","Acasta" and "Ardent" signals "Scharnhorst" and "Gneisenau"  "Good luck and fair seas"

People who ask politely never get "jumped on" on this forum. It is the "mimimi all are bad but me" kind of player who gets jumped on which is IMO in a certain way justified. Stats are usually checked either way, that's true. But they are ususally the best and fastest way to determine a player's gaming habit and as I said above: I have seen both, an honest analysis of the stats of a player who asked sincerely and politely and a trollish/harsh analysis if someone comes here, is inpolite and/or only here for the sake of whining.

The language of the F buttons depends on what language you have chosen for your client. I, personally, sometimes care about F10 messages, sometimes I don't. Depends on my mood and what I have to plan with my division mates I'd say.

In PvE, I often respond, but in PvP random I rarely have time to even look at chat.

If I get a good luck message at the beginning, I will reply - but not to F keys - I don't regard pressing one button as particularly polite and never use them. I will respond to a proper message especially from the other side with a proper mesage. To my team, I use chat for information, and sometimes apologies and condolences! And at the end for congratulations!

Besides, Thank You using the British voice gives a message from what sounds like a child molester!

I prefer to check the list of ships, how are my allies spawned and how to face the game instead of answering something hollow to a complete unknown

What kind of player am i? :P I get your point. And you are right :) Those F keys can be annoying. When some ID..T spam all the time. But if they are used in the way they are supposed to so is it fine :)
