Karma number

I have played quite a while on the NA server and are now playing on the EU server. Despite numerous battles, it's only now I have found out there is a Karma number representing your reputation as a factor of compliments/report. I am surprised that this number is not much more prominently displayed e.g. in chat besides the nickname and/or the team summery screen (when you press tab). I would think it would be a very good ide to have it much more visible to yourself and other players.

It could - in my mind - help to achieve a better community culture in terms of people behaving (better) in chat and in gameplay. As it is it feel like you are complimenting/reporting into a void and certainly the effect of the karma number is limited as a tool to encourage good behavior and a nice community.

Don't think showing total Karma on the scoreboard is very smart ... but displaying the + or - a player accumulated that very match would at least be a reasonable idea

I think that your karma score should give you a credit boost. 1 karma rating = either 0.5% or 1% more credits. Gives the karma number a function and gives people a reason to compliment people who do well.

I don't see how either way would be helpful because the current concept behind karma isn't helpful either.

How you usually gain karma:

* Playing good (both teams)

* Assisting in chat (own team)

How you usually lose karma

* Playing bad (both teams)

* Not playing like you are "supposed to play" (own team)

* Misbehavior in chat (own or both teams)

* Salty opponents (enemy team)

And because of the above there is absolutely no way of knowing what caused player xyz to have a certain karma rating. You could be a decent but super nice and cheerful player who sits on a large heap of karma just because of your politeness or you could be a super-rad unicum player that single-handedly carries 90%+ of your games, however you are also a trash talker and downvoted into oblivion by opponents you just out-played.

If I am not totally mistaken we will get a more WoT-like end screen in the near future, e.g. also showing the damage figures of all players, which I do consider more helpful than knowing any karma value.

Fairly certain that high karma players will simply get nuked with reports just for having high karma.

The current system of having 7 reports/compliments that can be used at once makes zero sense, if they change that then it might be actually worth having a look.

Not to credits but to free xp, around 280 karma atm, I will even accept 0.5 instead of 1.

Also karma is useless, got reported 7 times yesterday just because I said "lol [clan name]" looks like I unleashed it without 5 kills :P

Corrected it for you. Playing well loses you more Karma than playing badly as people dont bother reporting potatos since they would be at it all day. If you outskill someone the salt is great thou. See my signature ...

Well, seems not all quite understood what I was aiming at. I am not interested in dmg or if players are playng like an Ace. I am more interested in using Karma for moderating purposes. I am aware that you cannot see details on what has been reported - and I that's okay. However there are a lot of people being extremely rude in chat and/or TK'ing etc.

So... since the number is there - why hide it in the profile tab under service record. In my mind it's useless there and maybe, just maybe, it could do a little impact if people knew that the number would be clearly visible to all they played with.

You do realize thou that stuff like that would be, just like chat reports are at the moment, extremely prone to abuse ?

The mechanism is already in place, I just suggest using it with more visibility.

Displaying Karma to other players would only make sense when this Karma would actually mean anything in the first place.

Useless, meaningless, abusable little number, which is only there for venting the frustration, and doesn't lead to any consequences or gains.

Should be removed, and if not - hidden as much as possible.

I think that your karma score should give you a credit boost. 1 karma rating = either 0.5% or 1% more credits. Gives the karma number a function and gives people a reason to compliment people who do well.

No way. People complement very rarely (well, if you entertain in chat instead of playing, you'll get some pluses), most often - according to the design - vent their frustration. Sometimes unloading it on a player who outplayed them (enemy team) or was simply better at the stuff (their team).

I don't see how either way would be helpful because the current concept behind karma isn't helpful either.

I also tend to report late loaders, afkers, teamkillers and those who don't give a damn about what we do as a team. But again, this is only to vent my frustration.

Huge amount of "casual potatos", afkers, or teamkillers is an obvious proof that there are absolutely no consequences of those "reports".

Displaying Karma to other players would only make sense when this Karma would actually mean anything in the first place.

Exactly.

They could implement a system where you earn report points each day by using compliments. One report for each compliment. Up to 7 per day.

Too easy to abuse...count down clans who get on opposite teams will/do obviously compliment their fellow clan members whatever. Also, begging will be rife.

Yep. This. And people will report you if you have high karma. Because reasons.

Linking karma to any kind of benefit is one of those silly ideas, like submarines, mines and Kamikaze planes, that just seem to reappear in the forum time and again no matter how well and thoroughly they've been proven silly in the past.

I thought there is already a reward system in place regarding Karma.

Only on the RU server tho, because obviously we filthy capitalists don't deserve such things. :trollface:

(Just checked and I'm surprised to say that I'm sitting at 357 Karma. Weird considering I nowadays mostly play classes that tend to earn bucketloads of sweet delicious tears)

I was at 30 or something. Then I played FIVE games, where I had 3x3 ship division being idiots which I told them. Guess how much Karma I had over that :)
