This season feels tougher than the last for me.

I'm less motivated as I've already hit R1 last season too, I'm not feeling the whole Belfast thing,I have one but find hundreds of smoke meta games dull.

Although I am starting to feel the power of the Scharn.

I just try to stay realistic and aim at achieving rank 15 (and the commemorative flag).

 

What really bothers me, as a below-average-player, which type of ship to take to ranked. Battleships really need to carry their weight in ranked, and although with fewer ships on the team there is less room for team members who are not able to do their fair share as it were. Still, there have been a few times with me taking a DD to ranked, the team lost but somehow I managed to top the XP list with my DD...

Well it is been a while since i played myoko, o boy has this ship become garbage with its terribly slow traverse gun speed, slower than tier 9 and 10 heavy cruisers, it is like battleship :). This ship has lost all its strong points advantages since a year ago.

This weekend I gained 6 ranks casually playing my Atlanta and only managed to lose 1 star out of all my games. Today was a good day.

Good song captain! Still didn't start ranked this season. From my experience consider this: the presence of ships and guns is merely coincidental. It hardly has got anything to do with that. It's a pure lottery: whoever destroys the first DD wins. And it's a pure gamble if your team is able to do something. The ego tripping is even more aweful in ranked than in random IMO. More gambling factors: the side with a slow CV of DD loader, loses. The side which enters a cap first, wins. OK all this in 98% of the cases in my xp. A comeback fight is very rare in randoms. I haven't seen it in ranked. Usually there are at least 1 or 2 people who hide behind an island right from the start to be finished off last.

So to summarize: it's pure gambling IMO.

Getting past 6 was annoying, mainly because once you hit 5 you are put in a diff group so trying to avoid being put back to 6 in the 1st game was a pain.

 

But i did not think i would get past R10 tbh this season until i hit 8 with the Saipan and then i switched to Belfast and now at 4, hitting R1 seems doable now but seeing more Sims now so they do not lose the star is annyoing due to xp modifier.

 

Wish that R5 was a checkpoint though.

Think like that: people with 49% winrate in ranked have gone to rank 1 by virtue of playing. If you are a decent player and lose, dont stress, get back into it. Put enough games on the board and the statistics will do the rest.

 

IMO this is a shitty model for a ranked play but when in rome...

There is still time so I try to focus a rank or a few stars as soon as the losses start I stop for the day its getting harder to be at top for Sims with Shirhatsuyis doing loads of damage probably more experienced at dd as well. At least its better then the casino you dont lose money only a star.

Well. My decision is made. I won't be bothering with rank this season. For the flags? Mwah. In the current meta it's either a walk over or a being walked over. In both cases the flags are useless. I'll never reach R1 anyway. Therefore i'm too mediocre a player. So the awesome ships will never be in my port. I guess Mick Jagger was right! But good hunting to all who does rank up!

I have those no-progress days about every other day I play Ranked. In between those, I have good days. Day before yesterday (well, two days, considering the time's well past midnight now) I pinballed between ranks 11 and 8 back and forth a few times. Yesterday I had a great day, and got to rank 5 very painlessly. Today I at least managed to remain, but it wasn't a good day, so I decided to quit before I got behind. And it's been like that most of the time. If my winrate sticks, it shouldn't be too hard to get to rank 1, but it's all about statistics.

 

Funnily enough, I never seem to really do that good for many of my wins (only some 50k-60k damage in Nagato), but the games are still solid. It seems too consistent for just being good luck, so maybe it's just more about positioning and being a threat than actually doing damage. With Shiratsuyu it's more expected, since spotting, capping, and area denial doesn't give a great deal of experience, or none in the last case.

Wouldn't agree with that. I've seen plenty of cases where one team gets a lead in ships or cap points, and then decides to push unevenly into the enemy controlled waters. That very often ends in a defeat for them. Capping is often more or less irrelevant, as most games go to last kill before even a few minutes of capping makes a difference. It's more of a morale thing. A destroyer loading in late can also make up for it by being with the main fleet rather than way ahead, and then smoke them rather easily. Not that they often will, but I've seen it a few times. Then again, once you get to a sufficient rank, very few people seem to have loading issues, to the point where it's almost a non-issue.
