What is the point of Battleships?

another one of the leet crowd this time erecting strawmen about my cruiser to belittle a person learning a gift the got, when the OP question is about battleships.

just FYI I watched some YT advise about cruisers and hiding, and had been practicing that.. getting as close as I can using the land cover.. of course I will get to sink faster that way...

the N Mex, again its a case of I am hitting far more than the stats suggest. eg I fire a round but only 17% of the shots hit where I targeted (at long range), the rest land in the water. There will be times at angled shots I miss, too much behind, but not by the second salvo as I correct, and its back to hitting the target with a few shells the rest land all around in the water. Even when the ship is head on charging it is like 50% of shots will always land in water and 50% on target. That is a game issue of all the shells not going where I aimed. I guess your answer to that is never fire salvos and the front guns should be aimed separately to the rear ones.

Don't broadside is the only comment that makes any sense from you, why not add hide as far away from their ranged shots as that is what most seem to do at the start?

So better players give you wrong advice? Really? Wow, so that is how they got to actually be better players, by doing the wrong things! Thanks for letting us know.

Not at all, because I am hitting them, just not with all my shells, and this is the point people like you ignore as you are out to silence the debate or improve the game mechanics in any way... leetism in its finest.

So your terrible hit ratio isn't due to your lacking aim? Mhm, thank for that bit of wisdom.

Right OK, to save everyone's blood pressure here, may i ask a question? i need to get something straight in my head before offering more advice to try and help you

Have you come here to ask advice on how to improve you game?

Or are you just here to complain that something in the game isn't working as you expect it to, and the devs need to immediately drop everything and change the game to fit your perception?

Well, don't take my advice if you don't want it, I just wanted to points out a few things you could improve easily based on your stats. Which are - objectively - horrible.

Yeah, I'm repeating the "don't broadside" advice, because it's just pitiful to see tier 10 broadsiding with a Yamato or Montana and get multiple citadel hits, then whine on the tchat.

And again, if you have trouble hitting stuff at long range : get closer. Simple as that.

Are you firing full broadside salvos or are you firing each turret individually?

If you are firing at a target that is manoeuvring, your hit rate will improve if you fire each turret separately along the path you predict the manoeuvring target will take

only shoot a salvo at a broadside target.

on the whole it doesn't seem to matter if its all or one gun firing, as even with one gun you can see the shells are already wide apart, sometimes one higher and one lower so as to straddle a ship rather than hit with both.

I was not seeing any advice on BB, I was saying I can't see the BB having the intended role right now and pointed out what I felt were two current flaws in the method, that was the debate I intended, why BB are failing or why they are not... I posted here as inexperience not an expert for gameplay topics, I was not really expecting the shut the debate by blaming the messenger somehow. A common problem in WG forums.

ok I accept your apology that you were not talking about the point of BB in the game, but were poorly attempting to be helpful and off topic.

Well, as what's been said above, it seems that your damage output is lower than the server average, as is your hit rate

That is could be down to any of the following

Your aim could use a slight improvement. you cant help RNG, but do you use the aiming modules on the ships that use them?

You are out of position to be able to support the team effectively with gun fire

You are getting in too close with your US BBs to use your armour effectively. these are ships designed for mid range gunnery duels. you have the armour to tank damage, angle it for maximum effect.

Your survivability is high in some of your IJN BBs, are you cruising the map boarder firing on everything at maximum range?

:child:

So far with US and Japanese ships up to level 5/6 they seem to do the least damage, partly because they take absolutely ages to reload or miss at great ranges and they die far too fast in close up brawls for secondary guns to take out Destroyers and Cruisers that close.

You want to know what BB's are for and you been told that, yet you can't apply it because you can't aim. So in fact this topic is about your AIMING, not about the roles off battleships.

I'm not here to 'EARN' your respect, I don't need it, I'm here because you can't aim and that's your problem ( and mine if you happen to be on my team ). While it might be 'fun' to have you on the enemy, I would rather see you improve so playing would be fun for the both of us no matter which team you're on.

Battleships role is to 'battle' to engage and to devastate the enemy with withering, concentrated, well aimed gunnery. Feel free to take a look at ANY of my Battleboat videos to explain how best to use your BattleBoat !

cherry2blost

  • Plays a mix of battleships (excellent) and destroyers (excellent)
  • Deals a large amount of damage
  • Often finishes damaged enemies
  • Extremely often uses torpedoes (when in ships that have them)
  • Key vehicle - Nagato

here are a few recent examples matey !
