RDF is there another way?

90% of the player base responding to this poll http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/71283-implementation-of-rdf/ are unhappy with RDF in its current form

 

I am sure that considering it has got all the way to public test, that RDF is coming to the game regardless of all the negative rep it is picking up.

 

So, is there another way? I would like to hope there is. So in a constructive way, how could it enter the game in a more acceptable format?

 

As RDF is a passive skill, it cannot be turned off. So, how about making it "ping" like sonar would. Every 30 or 45 seconds, you get a RDF ping that shows the sector that the nearest enemy ship is? It could be a broad sector, between 30 and 45 degrees. The player being pinged should still get the warning on screen like in the current test to warn them, but at least they know that for the next 45 seconds they have the opportunity to adjust their positioning without being tracked?

 

I am just trying to be constructive.

There is no more "time" to change it. It will either enter the game as is, or it will not be introduced at all. But the question remains, if they don't introduce it, what will they change it with? They will probably put it in the game, and collect data, and maybe, just MAYBE they will tweak it after. 

 

I am a bit dissapointed, that even though they got such huge feedback regarding that skill, they do not want to listen, or they don't have any idea what to exchange it with. The new Camping META is coming to town.

I'm sorry that I'm not complying with the intention of your topic as much as I can empathize your motivation, but trying to make RPF less asinine is just that, making it less worse. It would just be treating the symptoms instead of the ailment.

yes there are other options but wg refuses to listen to its player base and as such it will be implemented regardless what we think

There is no way to change it to fit gameplay. Even as consumable it will be gamebreaking.

At this point, i am almost certain that is coming, whether we like it or not. So i was just wondering how it could be toned down to a more acceptable level. I know it will never be popular, but would there be less rage if it acted more like an old fashioned radar?

There's no way to make it acceptable, IMO. The skill as designed is just broken. If WG puts it in I'll either quit or abuse the f*** out of it and enrage all the noobs. I'll farm accusations that I am cheating and I might just forward them to WG support for the lulz.

 

Because nothing like WG having another epic meltdown. :trollface:

 

I'm still hoping for a sudden outbreak of sanity at WG, though.

what you have to remember is the skill is good for bb and for cruisers but its pure game breaking for dds and wg do not care a flying fig about dd players or cruisers

so what we have is another bb buff because most bad players do well in bbs and will continue to play em and pay for stuff while they are happy

wg had decided cvs are not important and ruin bb play so they nerf em and when bbs where getting burned by cruisers from range they decided that wasn't nice to bb players so the range increase from aft was removed for most cruisers

now its the turn of the dds to suffer so more because the torp nerfs done before are not enough for the bb players so now they get the chance to know where the nearest dd player is to them and to top it off now wg are looking at removing invisi firing so dds and some cruisers cant shoot at a bb unless the bb can shoot back

after looking at all the nerfs to other classes and buffs to bbs does anyone really and I mean really believe rdf will be removed?


 

I remember armoured warfare implementing the skill based mm and most of the player base where screaming at em not to do it as it just helps the bad players feel like they are doing better but the devs didn't listen and once introduced it killed the game as most good players left

I can easily see wg doing the same with the rdf skill as most good players play all classes and not just bbs and because of this they will play less and less till they disappear

I enjoy this game a lot and hope to hell wg will stop the silly idea of making bbs the only class to play

I care for the game deeply, and have supported it financially ever since i was invited to the CBT.

 

I don't want to see it become WoT where only people heavily invested in the game with 19 point captains completely dominate the game over someone with a lesser skilled captain. Captain skills should provide a slender advantage to reward the effort put in by a dedicated player base. That is why i suggested a lesser form of RDF. As i have said in other threads, CE is now a lot easier to come by, so i see a need to lesser the impact of a huge increase in concealment builds where half the game is spent sailing around avoiding each other!

Anyway, i don't agree with the current RPF either.

I seen a fair a fair amount of topics and Jingles suggestion to turn it into something more Historical/realistic, as in it only worked for a couple of seconds when the enemy used chat or voice commands and that i something that i could see work and i would agree if implemented like that.

I guess there is nothing we can do to prevent the skill itself. This weekend I watched Aerroon making good use of it. I think it has its place somehow, it's basically an advanced situational awareness that costs 4 skill points. Fine. I'd just like to limit its range, like the direction to the nearest ship within 10-12 km or so. This way you can still use it to guesstimate enemy DD approach, but you can no longer use it as reliable tool to hunt down the last remaining enemy if he hides far away.

I mean, at some point radio waves become unreliable. We have so many ships in battle, they are all communicating by radio. There are so many different signals in the air, there has to be some interference.

 

The skill is no reason for me to quit the game. I don't even think I will take it on a lot of ships. The other lvl 4 skills just look too appealing.

But if its gone through two public tests it is coming. Even if it gets changed considerably, like the RN CLs, they still came on the patch they were intended to.

 

Just saying its broke, i'm not playing any more wont get the skill changed if there isn't any suggestions on what it can be changed to

After RPF, DD class will be closed for new players (like CVs are now), they will really need a 14 points commander, for taking concealment and RPF, it will be fun to play against kamikazes with way better concealment than you and who always know where you are.

It can't be changed to be less broken, unless the core concept is changed. Any perk which kills concealment is game breaking.  Radar was already a big hit on DD's, certainly for IJN now USN can torp from outside or almost outside ( VMF radar + Fletcher ) radar ranges but for IJN to be effective they have to be within 8km. And now they want to introduce a perk which shows exactly where the closest enemy is..... :facepalm:

Again a proposal which would hit IJN more then USN high tier DD's, so how about nope.gif? Make it 15km or better yet, just throw the whole idea of a perk which does this out of the window plox.

 

don't even think I will take it on a lot of ships. The other lvl 4 skills just look too appealing.

 

Imperator Nikolai I / Gremyashchy are not broken, because not everyone has one.

No, i don't want to roll over and say its fine. I want to say "make RDF show where the nearest enemy was a minute ago" that way the skill still has a use without being abused

If the RDF pings every minute with a sector, as it does now, then fade gradually you have no "real time" target tracking. just like the last known location on the minimap. I don't see how that can be abused anywhere near as the current real time tracking.

Doesn't fix anything as you can't perform tactical flanking within a minute. And making it so it would allow it just removes any and all reason to have it in the first place. 

 

As previously said: you can't 'fix' something which is broken in it's core concept. 

 

edit: unless you make it a consumable with a high reload timer, like 5 minutes or something, which then works for five seconds. Which no one would take, but hey we got more of those consumables people should never take, like spotter planes on German BB's :red_button:

I had a battle on test server with rdf and chased 3 dds down and killed em with a brit cruiser

would I have killed em without it? probably but by god it was damned easy to chase em and miss all their torps cos I know which direction they would come from

its a stuffed up skill and people will soon find out how bad it is
