If an average joe sees a ship shooting at them, they'll shout that there's a battleship shooting at them. The ship shooting at them might well be a destroyer, but they'll still yell battleship. They'll be wrong, but they won't stand there and try to guage the gun size, ship construction, and weapon specifications to try to evaluate the ship class. It's what people would do and they'll still be incorrect. You're defending ignorance. Stop making excuses and bugger off.

I'm defending common sense.

You're defending being objectively wrong in service of convenience.

In PvE then I hope......

Unguided rockets ( I know I know, rockets are by definition unguided or they are missiles but I wanted to emphasize it anyway ) for fighters to strafe ships..

Either that or depth charges to fight AI controlled submarines.

Actually rockets aren't by definition unguided, at least not by any definitions that I have seen so far. It's just that in military contexts the word "rocket" is generally used for unguided rocket-propelled projectiles whereas "missile" is generally used for guided rocket-propelled projectiles.

And @OP: The term missile is generally used to describe guided rockets. And unlike the word "battleship" being used to describe warships in general by a layman, the word missile usually refers to guided rockets even among the people who make or use them. Here's a link to an actual manufacturer of missiles using the term "missile" specifically to describe what you would want us to call guided rockets(note that they specifically have "Precision Guided Munitions" as a seperate category despite those also technically being missiles): http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/precision/overview/index.html#missiles
