Why is Midway so extremely bad ?

Can someone tell me why Midway feels so much worse than Essex ? Or am i doing something wrong ? While in Essex i could easily outplay enemy Taihos and deal massive dmg with Midway i genuinely struggle to do 30k dmg per round. I really struggle.  I simply feel completely useless on the team, even thou i considered myself an excellent cv player with all the others before. I even went to play stock deck with two fighter squads since strike Midway gets utterly destroyed by every other CV flying 2-4 fighters all over the place. 

 

So far, i played 25 rounds, manged some good ones too, but im stuck at 30% win rate and its just extremely frustrating to get trashed every time. I simply cant win with it. With all the CV's before i ended up with 60%+ win rates and highly above avarage dmg, but Midway .. Seriously. I has higher detect range than a Yamato, I spend 2/3 of the games just relocating and bombing stuff that spots me from halfway across the map and try to save myself instead of helping the team. 

 

Sadly i bought prem camo for it without trying it first, big mistake, otherwise i would have sold it already and trained my captain back to Lexington, that CV is MUCH more effective in a T10 game then Midway.

 

So, whats the secret of Midway, is it me or is it simply so bad that it cant carry a game ? Or am i just unlucky with my potato teams ? I dont get it ..

It was OP long time ago , so they "balanced it" to the level of garbage :p

 

Well, lost 3 more games with sub 50k dmg done and i've sold it now. Its simply useless, no matter what you do, its a trash ship. Rebought the Lexington with the credits from Midway and retrained my captain. That thing is actually useful ...

And here i was thinking im the only one who gets them average 10-30% winrates every day, overall playing around 15...

What are your prime targets? How do you position your fighters ? 

 

I find the midway very strong and easy to play but situational. To be more percise, because of crap rng, I get either 50k matches or 220k ones depending on how rng decides to bless me with bomb dispersion and fires. The other problem is enemy ship size. While IJN bombers are excellent at sniping DD's american bombs are crap at hitting anything except ships like the kurfurst, yamato, enemy midway....

 

My advice would be to use DoT on big lonely enemies. F3 and ask nicely for some fires on the guy, wait for repair, pray to rng for nice fires / flooding.  The other way around would be to alpha strike with a TB and DB run and wait for repair with the last DB squad. Work with your team. 

 

As for fighters. There are 2 ways to do it. The simpler one is to be defensive over your team, waiting for a decent time to make a strafe or be agressive, take the initiative.

maybe wg didn't like the The Battle of Midway Movie :P I'll Guess the good CV players have found out that it stink, and use Haku (the superiour CV navy

On the other hand, i have probably seen the worst teams today that i have ever had since i started plying WoWs. The amount of lemmingtrains and borderhugging camperteams is just mindblowing. Anyways, no more Midway for me, back to Lexi as i said. Wont ruin my stats with this piece of garbage.

Maybe Essex fell off a cliff edge in terms of damage and WR when WG took away the 2nd torp bomber squadron?

 

That thing used to be utterly insane but the nerf probably went too far...

Apparently playing Midway brings out the worst noobs ever. I have been teamkilled in 7 games today. Every potato expects you to carry their asses, and when you dont cover only them they come and put a torp broadside into you. Absolutely amazing. Impossibly bad teams all day long.

I have had Midway for a couple of months, and can't seem to get much victories with it. Partly because of real tools, potatoes borderhuggers and AFK players in my team.

Apart from that, I see the same reasons you mention here earlier. Bomb drops that have abysmal hit rate, you are more likely to hit a DD with autodrop than manual, you can even miss a BB because of the bad dispersion.

 

Yesterday I had my highest damage score yet, with 240K damage in stock aircraft loadout. (balanced(!)) It is capable of doing damage, but it's really random, and you don't have any sense of control with the current UI.I killed my Essex because of the UI, after I clicked too much with my squads, making the carrier head for the main enemy force at the center of the map... <..>

 

I can see a sense and strength of the Midway back when it had two torpedo squadrons. That was a very strong setup, balanced by fewer fighters. Now you feel you loose your balance once you select "strike" loadout. You are at a disatvantage when you only have one fighter squad at tier 10, because that won't save you. 

I know that you can try to attack areas of the map where the enemy planes isn't flying, but what about map control and support? It can't do the job!

Anti air is so strong that you need to stack your attack planes so let some through the barrage of anti-air, and when you do, bad RNG can make your attack completely wasted.

 

Playing an aircraft carrier in Wows is frustrating, because you don't feel you have the control you have when playing the other ships. Much is dependant on a good mm, bad opponent CV player if it is IJN, lucky strafes, lucky bomb runs, lucky torpedo strike (even though that is the most reliable damage source, depending on skill.

 

Main thing about the fighters is that the strafe function is so broken. I'm struggeling with it a lot. It might be lag, but a lot of the time when I mark a strafe path, the planes start doing some irritating loops before they run the strafe. Even in pursuit of enemy bombers, where they shouldn't have to reposition running a straight line!!

 

The unequal squadrion numbers are also a pain, because most japanese loadouts can lock your fighters, and still have more squadrons to attack your torpedo and bomb squads. Even if they are fewer and weaker, they to their purpose. They panic and interrupt your attack aircrafts.

 

I believe you post this so that there might be a chance for someone (WG developers) to pick up the feedback and do something about it. I hope that they could make the Midway great again, more like it's real life original was.

Win rate dropped down to 19% now. Thats 19% in a Tier 10 ship. Its getting statistically impossible that its my fault. Something is seriously wrong with high tier teams ...

this is the real problem in t10. It's not the ships, it's the "players".

The sheer amount of absolute braindead potato teams im getting is mindblowing. Im not joking, i lost 27 games in a row now. Multiple with 6+ kills, 200k+ dmg and so on. Still everything lost. Im on the verge of smashing something around here ..

Yes, it is abysmal. I stopped playing after the second loss with Midway today. Just too frustrating. Team went all over the map, but avoided the cap zones. chasing the borders. My Essex, however, did my second highest damage score ever today. And we even won...

A carrier has all odds against it when the team is bad. The CV is dependant on the team actually being able to capture points, protect the CV, provide mutual scouting and push for the objectives. Lately I think the team has consisted of chimpanzees typing on the keyboard. 

 

A CV should be a tool to make the team stronger. Today it is too much reliant on RNG and luck.

Doesn't seem that bad at least when I fight it with my Hak. The 2 fighter setup seems to do decent. Well maybe it's because I don't have my 5th captain perk yet idk, but it seems to get an overwhelming air superiority edge over my 2/3/3. Maybe it's just that the strike wing don't follow up. Will tell you when I4ll have unlocked it myself !

I played against you today with a 1-1-3 midway and u tottally failed ur tasks. Even tough ur team was  quite bad indeed aswell u didnt really nullify my attacks where u could, and never really predicted my attacks either.

 

It comes to me to no suprise that you blattantly fail ur pourpose against hakuryus aswell. If u run 2-1-2 and exspect good results u really need some proper prediction going on. I play both, 2-1-2 and 1-1-3 and usually enoy the latter more. Atleast in our match you could ve had more of an impact with that kind of setup.

It comes to me to no suprise that you blattantly fail ur pourpose against hakuryus aswell. If u run 2-1-2 and exspect good results u really need some proper prediction going on. I play both, 2-1-2 and 1-1-3 and usually enoy the latter more. Atleast in our match you could ve had more of an impact with that kind of setup. 

 

 

 

Problem there is that i was so occupied fending off ships that came too close to me and spotted me already a few minutes into the game that i couldnt bother with anything else. Half my team was obliterated in the first few minutes, the rest was borderhugging and sniping form max range. Sure, might have been a bad round, but i also had multiple 250k+ dmg games with 6 kills and i still lost them.

 

I just dont understand how i could play Essex with 60% win rate and do great and lose this much with Midway. Taiho vs Essex is absically the same deck configs and plane loadouts, how can i perform so much worse in Midway vs Haku than in Essex vs Taiho ?

I have neither the Midway or the Hak and i call myself a CV player! But knowing what i know from playing CV's, i wont be grinding the Midway that's for dame sure chaps.  I Don't really wanna get the Essex even though i have more than enough XP for it! I will do some day as i wanna see how it plays with that extra fighter (1-1-3) but what's stopping me is that whenever i play against them, i end up dominating it. 3 Torp groups in the Tahio is so much more flexible and cross dropping can be a god send.  You strafe 1 Set of US torps and...Puff

 

The Hak (20,000 XP away), IMHO, seems a more flexible all rounder with the numbers game on her side.  I still think the best US CV is the Lexington (0-1-3) (excluding THAT sealclubber at lower tier) :tea_cap:

Really ? 60% win rate with nearly 120k avarage dmg is far far from good ? Sure not as good as yours, but all the stats in all my CV's are high above avarage. Also you dont do much more plane kills with strike deck .. I just simply cant understand why im suddenly SO much worse in Midway than in Essex or Lexi. I hit rock bottom now at sub 30% win rate in Midway. I simply have the feeling that i cannot do enough because my team quits on me so early in game that i simply dont get the chance to do more dmg or sink more ships. Its simply not possible in the timeframe i have. I get spotted so early in the game because my team is not watching flanks, they all camp up at spawn allowing dd's to come close, they just yolorush into enemies .. I have games where i get killed in the first 7-8 minutes because even thou im reversing and trying to get in cover i get spotted and bombed by long range bb fire. I had the most abysmally idiotic teams the past two days i have ever seen in WoWs since i started playing this. No joke, its absolutely frustrating. Currently at 36 games lost in a row ..

the part about usa where i would need help is what to do with that 1 squad of fighters?

If you try to spot and give spot cover for your dd you end in fight with oponents fighters and you lose from ijn with almost no kill. Not including strifing because if no idiot on other side you will not strafe it. 

 

If i hide and try to protect fleet again sooner or later his 2 squads will try to engage me so his 5 squads can torp. 

How to use usa 1 fighter squad to be most efficinet? Dogfighting against 2 of ijn 10 vs 7 is not the way to areal kills. In every other scenario his fighters just spots my dds all day long

To OP answer. Essex and midway has exactt same playsttile and mostt of the ttime oposittion uses same sttup 2-3-3 as in essex fights. So only logical conclusion (we will nott go into curses:)) is - sttring of bad luck and bad tteams. You should check stats again in 1-2 week. I should gett bettter. If. Not. Tthan we can ttalk about curses :)

Because at tier X you meet stronger overlapping AA.

Furthermore, your planes are much faster but much less agile too so you will have problems to adjust strikes/strafes in last seconds to maximize your dmg output
