How would you "sell" this game to a new player?

Hi there, one of my friends at work was asking about the WoWS reddit page I was browsing during lunch and I started to tell him about the game but stopped after a few seconds when I realised I was so sick of the game that I couldn't even fake any enthusiasm when trying to "sell" the game to him and maybe start him as a new player.

 

I mean I genuinely couldn't think of a single thing about this game that would make me recommend it to a friend, I just couldn't. The game has changed so dramatically since I started playing in April '16 that all the carefully laid out "balance" the game had back then is long gone and with the balance gone the game is much worse and I just don't see it getting any better.

 

I know I'm a bit burnt out right now (even my favourite co-op is filled with mouth breathing morons who couldn't win if it was 8 v 1 bot) so I'm probably not the person to to approach but my mate still seemed pretty keen so what can I tell him about the game thats positive, that'll sell the game to him?

LOL, after about 10 seconds of thinking I said "The ship models and maps look nice" and thats when I ran out of steam

But seriously, apart from the general feeling to be an EU player (an apple that hasn't fallen too far from the tanks tree), and the worldwide (seemingly) impending doom that is the new RDF. It's still a good game.

Tell them to ask the same question in a month or two.

I'd honestly struggle at the moment.

The best I could manage today when someone asked me is "it's better than world of tanks"

 

I don't know if it's the campaigns or whether it's a lot of the better players leaving but the standard of play since before Christmas has been falling dramatically.

 

I think mostly it's the dumbing down to cater to bbabies and some seriously poor implementation choices which have poisoned the well but the game was, to be brutally honest, far superior in CBT.

Of course, you could be honest to him and save him a lot of time with telling the truth: A game with warships, claiming to be thrilling and skill dependend, turning out to be a game with warships, highly enraging, completly luck dependend, with broken balance mechanics and gameplay types which will deliver more frustration than fun, thanks to the former mentioned constant gamble, broken balance, and teammates which 8 out of 10 times appear to be so braindead, your guniea pig could probably achieve more with just running across your keyboard over and over again. Oh, and tell him about the teamkilling bots in PvE (practice-mode), which simulate the teamkilling tunnel-visioning wall-of-skill launchers you frequently find in your team! Thet will get him, for sure!

It's a free game, just try it.

Graphics are descent without needing a ninja PC

You can be the best player and also pay to have the best most upgraded ship with all the flags, captains etc and still lose because of potato team/RNG so it's fairer compared to other ''free'' MMOs

You can unlock most ships in time without paying anything. Take your time tho as going up the tiers only makes the game harder.

People cannot kill you if you are not playing the game, unlike other ''free'' MMOs

You can pick it up, have a couple of battles for the day then leave it. You play at your own pace.

The only point I can think of is that it's a warship game in 3D environment and there's nothing similar. And you can try it for free.

My fair assessment would be like this: "World of Warships is an unbalanced game, where every class serves as a cannon fodder for battleships, which are getting buffed over and over again"

That's why I'd never recommend this game to anyone. You need to have these sadomasochistic predispositions to be able to enjoy this game.

It's good fun to sail your ship around and shoot at other ships. Be sneaky and play a destroyer. Be bold and play a battleship. Be confused and play a carrier. Or was that the other way around.

 

Play it with friends while you chat, play it drunk, play it sober, it never gets old.

I just think back to the first game i played.... game loaded up could not see the enemy at the time and had to shoot something..... that island took a broadside from me..... omg and loved the game ever since.

 

We all get burnout and we get upset with things that changes in the game... and i always look at it if it was truly balanced.... there would be only 1 class 1 ship each tier and only fighting the same tiers... and for me that sounds very dull.

 

And for me the best part of the game is playing with other players in a goal to win the game
