A guide to playing Battleships.

This comprehensive guide will (hopefully) help you become the undisputed ruler of the oceans, one of the elite few (or some 60+% of the playerbase depending on the server), the legendary unsinkable steel fortresses! Cruisers will cower in terror at the sight of your massive main battery, Destroyers will not dare venture into range of your numerous secondary guns and hydrophones/radar, and Carriers (provided you ever encounter this rare breed of self-loathing sadomasochistic player) will have their planes swatted out of the sky by an endless barrage of AA fire from you guns!

The first step is to pick a tech tree. Unfortunately there is not much choice here as there is only one tree in the game that is worthy of the glorious title "Battleship" and that is the German tree! Forget all those underpowered US and IJN ships that can't even spot DDs by themselves. In order to become the true terror of the oceans you need to equip yourself with the best possible tools. And every non [edited], unbiased historian knows that there can't possibly be anything better then glorious Kruppen Stahl German engineering! And of course no true Battleship player can play without the absolute best Battleship ever built, the Bismarck!

Now that we have picked a tree lets move on to gameplay. Now sadly since World of Warships is such a terrible historically inaccurate game Battleships can actually be sunk (i know, right?!?!). Thankfully small bastions if realism still exist so Battleships have the longest main battery range in the game. This allows you to shoot at ranges where most other ships can't shoot back. So make sure that you are ALWAYS at least 20km away from the enemy because god knows there could be a wall of OP torps coming around every island or capture point!

Always keep in mind that capture points are none of your concern! Your job is to get those juicy citadel hits on cruisers, everything else is only distracts you from that purpose! Your team is obsolete, they are just there to distract the enemy so you can citadel them. You are a team of one, and you are all that team needs to win!

Never look at the map! Much like capture points it is just there to distract you. The precious seconds you spend looking at the map a cruiser could be showing his citadel somewhere.

Never look around you for torpedoes or Destroyers! As a legendary Battleship if you do not spend most of the match in full zoom you are not doing it right.

Never change course or shift your attack in any way! Dodging and maneuvering is for cowardly Cruisers and Destroyers, you are a floating fortress and your only job is to shoot citadels.

Remember that as a Battleship you are an unsinkable fortress, and in the off chance that somebody kills you they are most likely hacking or abusing an OP ship. Make sure to call them out on it in the in-game chat, and of course don't forget to point out how unbalanced their ship is on the forum.

Carry the legacy of legendary Battleships like the Bismarck and become the ultimate terror of the seas!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Keep those citadel hits coming!

You forgot about need to complain to every possible WG employee and support.

Because glorious battleships are invincible mountains of heavy steel they should keep floating forever, no matter how much of water there's leaking to inside the ship.

You forgot to mention to always shout "ha ha ha" in a German BB whenever you score citadels... :bajan:

Perfect!

Of course the match was a defeat, but who cares about that, the Fuso survived the longest.

Look at this guy. Making a tutorial about something so magnificent that everyone knows and do already. It's like making a tutorial about how to click and breathe at the same time, you think someone doesn't know how to do it?

Oh wait...

Seriously, whats the point anymore...

20% of people who know this don't need that advice, other 80% will never even read that threads, or will just ignore everything and go back to humping the border...

You forgot to add, if you do happen to get closer to an enemy than 20km (because your hand accidentally turned the ship from it's full broadside line and you couldn't find the sail backwards key) and that enemy starts running away towards the corner of the map, you and your 4 battleship buddies must at all costs make sure that enemy does not take the far corner of the map, defend the corner of the map at all costs!

Yeah, blame that t6 BB for the defeat.

You mean the tier 6 BB that can sink my tier 8 CA in one salvo?

You bet i will blame him.

Yeah, blame that t6 BB for the defeat.

Because sometimes, TWELVE guns with more penetration and three times the damage than even TierX cruisers, on a ship with enough hp and armor to tank top tier BBs with a bit of skill is the difference between victory and defeat.

Well we cant really see the results so no idea what the end score looks like. For all we know that fuso kicked [edited](probably not). I assuming if you're complaining about someone else then you at least finished high up on the table.

Since you have 4,000 games, complaining about someone with less than 700 is a bit unfair - sailing at the back is pretty noobish but then 700 games makes you fairly much a newbie anyway.

What is the amount of games before people think "you should know what you're doing"? In WoT it was considered 5000, but they have quicker games, so I guess 1k is about the amount needed here

There is ALWAYS at least one useless player. Most of the time half the team's players are useless. So what's the big deal here?

Wah, wah, wah!

The point is that a useless top tier CA/CL is a lot less harmful to the team than even a bottom tier useless BB.

Which further begs the question why garbage behavior innate to DDs and CAs are nerfed and stomped patch after patch, yet that BB problem which has been present from the start is still running rampant despite having ruined more games than 20km blanket torpedo walls, tierX CV lolrape and invisible HE spam combined?

Suddenly a nice frivolous thread gets serious . . .  :amazed:

To put back onto topic;

Ensure to crash your BB into an island. The enemy will think you're a pier and will ignore you. Who said only DD can be sneaky!

Interestingly enough, I just saw an Iowa do that.

Turns out it works.

People think you're obviously too pro, and aim at others instead.

Of course he is within gun range, he is a BB, he can camp at the map border and be within gun range, only he is not going to be hitting much. I was moving to support the push at A because with him camping and sniping so far behind C was doomed already. I thought if we could take A and then make a push for B we may have a chance even with him playing the way he was.

I stopped reading at:-

'Jewish/communist'

You're treading on thin ice there my friend when your topic is German based.

I was being sarcastic.

@Xevious_Red

Of course he didn't kick [edited]. Do you really think he can reliably hit anything sniping like that? Maybe if he gets a lucky hit once in a while but generally you can't even reliably do damage that way. C pretty much got stomped within minutes and he moved even further back to avoid combat, in the end he was the only one left with about 80% hp.

I at least tried to win with a plan that in my opinion was somewhat viable given the situation. In the end i had 76k damage and one kill. Burned the enemy Bayern to death as he was trying to retreat, almost killed an enemy DD at B (secured by a teammate) and then fought the enemy Belfast but lost, most of the team was dead at that point and i was on low hp.

Two major errors in your post.

... Kruppen Stahl ...

...... the Bismarck and become the ultimate terror of the seas! ...

#1 - it's "Krupp Stahl", not Kruppen... learn to german, dude!

#2 - The ultimate Terror Of The Seas tm will of course be the glorious BBs of the unbeaten russian navy. So powerful, they didn't even have to leave port to win the war singlehandedly. Made from the finest Stalinium! Just take a look at the Nikolai I and you know what to expect - it will be the most UP ship in the whole tech tree!
