[GRKEN] jerkchicken Players 121 posts 10,417 battles Report post #1 Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) Hey, So my question is: Why does WG make on the Iowa/Missouri arround the turrerts white canvas while they are in real black? I annoyed with it, Just the fact that the black canvas would look better than those white canvas Lets take a look, Ingame: Real: I've seen that they where in the past black (US T9 Iowa) -> So WG I will be pleased if they can fix it, otherwise i will search for skins and i change it by myself. (if anyone knows how to do it) [edited] Greets, Splire Edited January 8, 2017 by RogDodgeUK This post has been edited by a member of the Moderation Team, due to inappropriate content. SerPurr Beta Tester 722 posts 16,792 battles Report post #5 Posted January 4, 2017 They are not black on the Iowa. Personal picture Black, Grey, Dark grey. They certainly weren't white. There's stuff like this allover the place in the game. One could say WG simply doesn't care too much about highly authentic looks. 'Close' is good enough. Iowa's rear citadel armor is still wrong too: That 16mm plate is just a hilarious compression of someone not looking at the total armor scheme and figuring 'well, there was a plate like that there so lets do it just like that and forget about the actual thing. Then, oddly enough, Montana actually has it like it should be.

[I-J-N] Karasu_Browarszky [I-J-N] Players 13,025 posts Report post #7 Posted January 4, 2017 (edited) I googled "white bloomers", because thats what the canvas part is, barrel bloomers. Google results confused me. But then I googled for "Iowa bloomers", and maybe the best site I found was this: http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/61a.htm No question that they are/were not white. There are some color photographs as well, and the color seems to be darkishg charcoal gray, I think. Certainly lighter in comparison to the Navy blue worn by the sailors. EDIT: The same, of course, applies to USS Missouri. The site has some pictures of her as well, and they are the same blackish/gray color on her barrels as well. There are some pictures of her en route to Hawaii and arriving at Pearl Harbor in 1998 where the bloomers are missing and the photos show a steel plate in their place with the barrels locked in position. EDIT: Here is a close-up photograph of the Missouri canvas bloomers: http://www.ww2incolor.com/us-navy/uss.html Apparently metal sheet covers are welded in when the ships get decommissioned. In restoration the bloomers are then restored to the gun barrels. As was the case with USS New Jersey, have a look at the following information. This site: http://www.battleshipnewjersey.org/the-ship/restoration/ provides some very interesting information: "The “bucklers” (sometimes called “bloomers”), are the huge black blast bags attached to each gun at the turret face plate...made of 3 ply rubberized fabric". Each may weigh as much as 500 pounds or more (225 kg or more). Apparently reinstalling the bloomers was hard and potentially dangerous work. They also painted them with black spray paint, which makes me wonder if this was normal maintenance procedure in case they fade over time or just part of the restoration. Regardless, they should indeed be black/dark gray in color. Edited January 4, 2017 by Browarszky

[CR33D] Runner357 Players 542 posts 18,076 battles Report post #13 Posted January 4, 2017 Newsflash guys - the game is full of ships who never existed It's an arcade game, not a simulator. These small "issues" live in the shadow of the real issues and bugs of the game. Until they get fixed - no zoup for you

They got this thing right on North Carolina, anyway, so it can't have been that hard to achieve.

Exactly while this game is not a simulator it would be a very good thing if wargaming would do their best to get their ships as visually accurate as possible.
