Gtx 1080 bad performance, anyone?

Ahoy fellow captains

Just curious anyone here got bad performance on the latest Nvidia cards like me? I upgraded from gtx 780 to gtx 1080 and expected a big jump on graphic and performance but the result failed me with inconsistent fps.

With V-Sync on I never had a solid 60fps, it normally 57-59 and sometimes drop to 45fps which is very annoying.

Without V-Sync my fps never reach to 70fps which is very weird to be honest because I can run Battlefield 1 on Ultra setting resolution 2560x1080 and upscale 125% at 80-100fps.

I don't think my PC is not capable for this WoWs game or maybe this game engine is very poor optimized perhaps? But I do need to know it is just me or maybe someone here suffering the same issue? My god hope you guys can understand the feeling of spent more than £600 on a new graphic card and cant max out your favourite game T_____T

My rig: Cpu 5820K OC 4.5ghz, 32GB DDR4 Ram, Gtx 1080

My display: LG 34UM68 34" native resolution 2560x1080

Any help/advice/fix would be appreciated!!! Thank you.

This game is heavily favored on a really powerful CPU, even one or two 1080's doesn't matter in this game.

This game struggles very much, and they will upgrade to DX11 in 2017.

Can't compare this game to other games than WoT.

Try editing some files to see it helps.

His CPU is pretty much total overkill too. The OP should look at doing a completely clean driver install or look for some other software issue.

I had a few wobbles initially, gtx1070, 32gb ddr4, i7, ssd.

There are some articles on the AA settings to use. If I recall correctly I had to manually force it through nvidia experience. Check back through the patch notes for details.

Also, fresh reinstallations of both nvidia exp and the drivers helped.

Finally, not likely to be a major issue for you but check your shadow play/sharing settings. That caused me some wobbles until I'd got it all switched off.

Don't expect to be able to slam everything to max and run at 60fps. The game engine is old and is designed to allow play by people with potatoes rather than catering to people with sweet rigs.

Personally I don't run on super Max settings, as I tend to die when I'm looking at how pretty the game is, rather than who is shooting me :-)

I noticed a similar behaviour, I upgraded from GTX680 to GTX1080. It did not change the fps much (a little, though), but it did make the game a lot smoother and more responsive. I run an i7/3820 at 3.8. For Overwatch it nearly doubled the FPS it pumps out and I can play it at Epic settings. For WoWS it didn't have that much effect on fps, but it made the game far more responsive. So it's not completely wasted on this game. :)

Hi,

dont forget WoWs has a FPS cap of 60, so you cant get over 60 FPS.

If you want to get more you can for exaple download mods from Aslain for an higher FPS cap.

If you have now 144 FPS and a 144hz monitor the game runs pefectly fine and smooth.

Best regards

Definitely not true and just the opposite. I play this game on a 9-year old CPU E8200 plus GTX 750. And it performs exceptionally on high settings under Wine/Linux.

You may wish to blame your Windows for the bad performance.

This game struggles very much, and they will upgrade to DX11 in 2017.

I really hope Wargaming not to upgrade to DX11/12 and force an alienation and  drop of players as me on the Linux platform.
If an upgrade to DX11/12 is coming and inevitable then, well, this is the end for me with WoWS. I do not use Windows for years now.
My last remaining wish then is Wargaming does the upgrade after March, when the competition of WT/NF is released and playable native under Linux.

Well, the FPS is hard-capped to 76 for some reason so you won't go above that regardless of how many 1080s you throw into your rig.

Any source for this?

Because... I doubt it.

The FPS Cap is actually 75.

You can check and change it in the engine_config.xml which is located in the res folder of wows. Its in the render section.

Last time I checked it unlocking the FPS cap introduces other issues such as frame timing due to massive FPS drops.

I would not recommend it.

I've got a Sandybridge i5.

Ships runs no better with my 1070 than it did with a R9 290x. But I've joined the Nvidia Master Race so it's ok

I believe it is CPU intensive yes.

Hi guys firstly I would like to thank all of you for quick response and good advices. So until now I can sum it up like this:

1. This game focuses on CPU ----> Mine is Intel 5820K and overclocked to 4.5Ghz with custom watercooler so I don't think it is my problem.

2. This game has 75-76fps cap ----> nothing I can do. I have V-sync on for reducing tearing display and what I have here is the inconsistent fps, like 59-60 drop to 45fps.

3. This game has some graphical issue like AA ----> workaround like turn it off in game and use Nvidia Control Panel to force/override it.

4. Unlock/change the fps cap in the engine_config.xml could lead it some bigger problem ----> leave it alone.

So far not really any way I can fix my bad performance innit :( Someone said they will upgrade to new engine or new graphic dx11/12 in 2017? Can anyone confirm it by give me any link or source please?

Still looking for any workaround to give me consistency of FPS thou...

yea the engine is really bad, with my gtx770 i had 70-130fps depending on map and situation. with my gtx1080 i have like 75-135 fps. ( or something like that, it didnt really change)

i have an i7 at 4,4ghz, so cpu is not the problem either, the engine just has some internal limits on polygon count or drawn objects blabla i dont know :D

in short, after a certain point, increasing your hardware power wont increase the performance of this game.

Are you just joking that you bought a 1080 gtx to run this game, that is the same as throwing your money in a pond or something. This game doesnt need much more then for example a 750 gtx somebody already mentioned this card would cost you 100 dollar euro or whatever, and runs even on a 8 year old cpu like a intelquadcore in very high settings. The problem is the game engine sucks, and maybe you have some issues with your windows or network. I myself run this game on a Intel quad core with a 750 gtx too 8 gb of ddr2 ram and i run it in very high fps is around 60 fps but it drops to 30 and back to 60 like a jumping rabbit i have heard this from many other who are having the same issues but i never see any difference in the game if it runs on 60 even sometimes on 70 or 30 its all the same, before i did even run this game on a 260 gtx and same aldo very high was a little bit too much. A 1080 gtx is made for virtual reality or very heavy games or just for people who dont know what to do with there money.

Even a 1070 is massive overkill for this game, first hand experience here lol...

Unless you're running it at 4k and across multiple screens it shouldn't need a super PC.

1070 and you shouldn't need to upgrade for years. I've had mine since about Summer this year and it's been essentially flawless, no crashes.

This is only my opinion and experience but AMD are trash.

I've had both sides of the gfx divide over the years and ATI/AMD have always been the poor relation.

Last AMD card I bought was an R9 290 which had similar issues to you except it was under voltage and kept crashing in desktop but not games (wtf!?!), I fixed it via upping the voltage but that's not cool when you pay hundreds for a gfx card and it doesn't work properly nor do the makers ever patch it via drivers.

Unfortunately I have a Crossfire 7950 setup on my laptop which had a WOWS only crash I still haven't ironed out.

Buy the best you can afford but make it Nvidia!

Set the max FPS to your monitors refresh rate (IE 120/144) with Notepad++ (windows notepad/word editor can break the xml).

C:\Games\World_of_Warships\res\engine_config.xml

Run the game in exclusive fullscreen, and you should have a butter smooth gameplay experience. Its a driver issue with both AMD and Nvidia, especially with multiple monitors, the game locks to 60 and feels laggy and stutters, same with wot in window mode. You can shift between window mode and exclusive fullscreen as simply as pressing left-alt + enter .

With a single 290X  and my i7 6700K in 2560x1440 i can run WoWS at 90 FPS without ever dropping below. With two 290X in crossfire its 144FPS without ever dropping below, that is with 8xMSAA. A GTX1080 blows my 290X's out of the water, you just need to set it up properly.

OP i run a NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6GB) with a Intel Core i7 5820K and 8GB RAM, havn't had too many issues. i think the problems i have had are are driver issues rather than FPS related

The main issue that i have noticed is when i go into battle sometimes the UI and enemy ships flicker or disappear, i still have full control of my ship, can see all friendly ships and the terrain looks perfect BUT!!... i could see no enemy ships but was being shot from all directions, no UI is shown and had no aiming information or cross-hairs for guns or torps, i died very quickly as you can imagine,

This has happened to me twice but was cured by re booting my PC, maybe a driver issue? (am running NVIDIA's latest drivers)

Other issue is when the screen locks (always in battle, never in port) and i cant retrieve the PC via the normal ways, even CTRL-ALT-DEL didnt work/show on screen, managed to get the start bar enabled (screen shot of my battle took up the rest of the screen) and restart, this has only happened a couple of times.

other than that for the couple of months that i have been running my new PC things have been stable, i did notice that the problems only started after patch 0.5.16, maybe there is a graphics driver conflict with the new WoWs game client or DivX?

Running at 3440x1440 on a 1070 max everything in game don't go below 70fps with 6700k cpu.

290X running the above setup does not drop below 60fps + it keeps my room warm/hot lol!
