FaceFisted Beta Tester 868 posts 5,081 battles Report post #1 Posted December 29, 2016 And really... ROFL! WTF is this?!? This monstrosity is so OP, I felt like I was cheating while playing it. One match - 95K damage in first 4 minutes, 220K in the end. Other BBs are pathetic cruisers in the eyes of Yamato. It has such a fear factor attached to it and it is sooo hilarious to watch everyone running away when you show yourself (stealth build, yeah). Their faces go white, they fill their pants and turn 180 degrees I should have bought this earlier. Playing this since closed beta and now I find this. I have reached the end of the game. There is no point grinding anything else in WOWS after this ship. Finally
[NOBZ] Mehmeds Players 97 posts 11,480 battles Report post #2 Posted December 29, 2016 Inb4 you get into horrible loss streak because potato TX players, MM hiccups giving you 4 vs 5 DDs, and overall insane power creep in(those rare) matches filled with TX ships. Holidays! YAY! I run secondary build with secondary tailored captain, and im starting to see this was a big mistake, far too slow turrets rotation to brawl, and far too many DDs eager to torp big, slow monster getting in close. Im curious to what captain build and what modules do you have, could you share them?
FaceFisted Beta Tester 868 posts 5,081 battles Report post #3 Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) Maybe RNGessus was kind to me. I fear that more good games I have in Yamato, more potatoes I will receive to "balance" me. This is my build. Secondaries are bad option imho. Shots were all over the place on Izumo with T5 skill for secondaries, so I have switched to manual AA. p.s. This OPness is tied directly to player skill. So - thank god for potatoes in Yamatos. FaceFisted Beta Tester 868 posts 5,081 battles Report post #5 Posted December 29, 2016 I kill those puny germans with my IJN DDs That's how stronk they are. Entire german branch is so gimped, I have stopped playing them. In the end, US and IJN are best choice for me.

While Izumo is quite the slug (not unlike Mutsu ), she has one good aspect which you don't get with any other ship. That is her guns which are probably the best BB guns in the game. Even better than the Yamato's, if the Yamato isn't in a position to overmatch from calibre alone. Deadly accurate and with amazing penetration. She ended up being way better than I expected once I started sailing her and not just facing her in battle. Though I'm pretty sure she has the worst concealment of any ship in the game.

[UNICS] Nechrom Beta Tester 4,870 posts 10,112 battles Report post #16 Posted December 29, 2016 Could you simplify that for me please? You're saying that Izumo ONLY has more accurate guns compared to Yamato? Basically the AP rounds used by the Izumo guns have better penetrating characteristics than the ones used in the Yamato guns. So the only advantage the Yamato rounds have comes from the fact that they are literally heavier. Meaning that in practice the Izumo is better at penetrating heavy armor at most ranges except very long ranges where the fact that the Yamato rounds are heavier means that they retain energy better. As for the "overmatch" I mentioned it's the ability for projectiles to penetrate significantly lighter armor regardless of angle. That is purely reliant on the calibre of the round, so Yamato has the edge there. In practice this means that the Yamato can penetrate some light armor at extreme angles like bow armor from the front and deck armor which you tend to hit at pretty shallow angles. tl;dr - Izumo has better penetration against heavy armor at all ranges except extreme ranges. Yamato has better penetration at extreme ranges and against angled armor she can "overmatch" that the Izumo can't, which is about 25-32mm if I recall correctly.
cro_pwr Players 2,735 posts 10,310 battles Report post #17 Posted December 29, 2016 Just one tiny advice. As much as people fear Yamato, and start running away as soon as they see you, that also gives another aspect to your gameplay. Because everyone sees you as the biggest threat on the battlefield (which you usually are), everyone and their mother will focus you. Carriers, cruisers, DDs... Only one who will not focus you are enemy BBs after your bow bounces all their shells...So use that wisely to tank for your team, just be sure that you don't overextend, because you don't see that volume of shells flying your way (and planes alltogether) even when playing DD and getting spotted 5 km away from their team

As much as people fear Yamato, and start running away as soon as they see you, that also gives another aspect to your gameplay. Because everyone sees you as the biggest threat on the battlefield (which you usually are), everyone and their mother will focus you. I know, I am counting on that. ;) No tier 5 skill? I would understand your build if CVs were a common sight. But even then you're either giving up awesome secondaries or even more crazy concealment. Tried it on Izumo and didn't like it. Secondaries are too unreliable on IJN ships. Stealth skill is again waste of 5 points since Yamato will be noticed no matter what after first salvo. Since I play in front lines, that would be double wasted skills. Stealth module is fine, it gives just enough stealth to be in range with most other ships and -20% is a lot of range on Yamato. Manual AA proved to be great on all high tier BBs, so I am sticking with that.

Myrmix Players 949 posts 4,642 battles Report post #21 Posted December 29, 2016 So you saying that the Yamato is not match for the Kurry? i would beg to differ. I had the Izumo for a while and now played the Friedrich for a bit. I often meet Yamatos in my Freddy and in the rare occasions they are no angle-and-reverse-captains, I still manage to damage them with 420-blaze-it-guns from the front through the deck, unlike with puny 406 US-shells. While I can't overpen like Yamato herself, I still can do nice damage, while he is unable to citadel me from the front. It comes down to rng and if he gets scared and tries to turn away..in wich case he has to show side. This confidence in a Freddy makes me think that the Kurfurst with 4 guns more is at least a worthy oponent for a Yamato.

Drunken_Jedi Players 849 posts 2,954 battles Report post #23 Posted December 29, 2016 I must admit, I regret not grinding up the IJN BB line sooner since Yamatos are such formidable opponents. I've always very much been a cruiser player first and foremost, especially after wargaming nerfed my preferred class, carriers into the ground because of all the BBabies. Destroyers are fun, but WG are nerfing them also to suite the BBabies who can't abide to have anything scratch their lovely ships. BB's to me are just a bit boring and too RNG focused over CA/CL and DD play.
