German Destroyers - tactics!:hmm:

 

 

 

 

 

Hello fellow Players! German DDs are here. And I wanna start discussion about gameplay tactic and experience on them.

Have Fun playng!

 

 

So some first questions to put in :rolleyes::

 

 

Play aggressive, or carefully?

 

 

What is more important or succesfull for you torps or guns?

 

 

Do you prefer close or medium distance to fight?

 

 

What will be better on VI and VIII tier, 128mm "antidestroyer" guns or 150mm "anticruiser" guns ???

 

 

and i dont have U.S. destroyers, how is gameplay on them different or similar to german ones?

I have now T-22, i prefer agressive fight (but I always read situation, dont all time go suicide to close "zerg rush" fight) more close than medium. Torp attacks prove for me to be more succesfull than gunfire, against enemy DDs too!

German DDs are closer to Japanese DDs so they dont fire their guns that often and use more torps cuz lol I am detected across the whole map

They seem to me like mid-range hybrids like the main-line IJN. The shell arcs force short-mid range firing like US DDs. That came as an unpleasant surprise to me, was expecting a more USSR-like line with less speed, more HP and better torps. Smoke lasts less than any other DD but you get hydro from t6, which opens up anti-DD options. First few tiers get 105mms, which I find may not overpen DDs and can do 2k damage sometimes on a good salvo. But that's only for very close range where you can actually hit them because those shell arcs are pretty brutal and shell speed is low.

 

I think the idea with these is brawling, and they gave them these shell arcs and the hydro to encourage that. Wiki says t9 and t10 get better arcs, and range is comparable to USSR at that point.

That really doesn't work on lower tiers though 7.6km detect range, and 8km torps on the tier 6 for example, and they are the size of a cruiser with the turning rate to match, And on higher tiers the US torpedo's are basically just as good.

 

I honestly dont understand them, bad shell arcs, bad speed, bad maneuverability, bad detectibity (no stealth fire. ever), bad smoke. and the only things they have going for them are decent torps, hydro, improved AP damage that bounces with even the slightest angle and 150mm guns on 2 ships.

 

You need to get close to hit anything with those shell acrs, but cant brawl like the US DDs since you are massive and cant turn for crap. Yea its nice when you get the broadside of a cruiser and get citadels with the 150mms, but that is super situational and i cant really see that work on higher tiers. 

 

I think if they buff the shell arcs to feel more German so they can fight at range better, they wil be decent ships. but so far they are just not as good as other nations, and even more important just not as fun.

well told , for sure they not even close to rus or usa line , sure arcbit better then usa but still , kinda disapointed by that line

To be fair, WG have said they want to do away with stealth firing. KM are just the first to not get it, while others should lose it with time. Don't know what will happen with premiums though, sounds like a thorny situation with people who paid for stealth-firing DDs.

 It sounds so natural for a WG game isn't it? Someone payed to be "better" than the rest. Legit. lol

Hmmmm only Bly is premium destroyer that can actually use it as valid tactic and solid dmg option. 

 

So 90% of premium dds are not stealthfires.

​It fits the "can only hurt BBs when they want it" mentality WG seems to promote in the last few changes/lines. plus i get the Feeling most lines tease days get balanced on 15 Point comanders even at Tirs were there hardly ever will be any.

Well lets hope it  will be better when new comander perks is going to come next year, i heard there will be no 5th perks max will be 4th...

 

 

and about german DD, like i wrote i have T-22 (it is smaller after all and i really have fun playing it) but i am starting to assume that main problem will be detectibility a huge hull... and on higher tiers battles it will be pain...

I don't have a problem with the bloom. But I have a problem with the fact that the KM DDs are the only DDs with that mechanic. If you contest a cap you just can't use your guns (or rather have to avoid it unless you are sure it is of use), because if the other DD smokes up and is hidden, half of the map still can see you. Therefore the other DD still has eyes on you. That is a big disadvantage compared to other DDs.

 

My advice is to not use the guns. Even if it is tempting. They are only last resort or for mopping up/short harassment. Try to use the torps as they have a quick reload. Yes, they are also fast, but the damage output again is not top class. If you are spotted, run away. Don't look for a fight but run. If you have to, use your smoke for concealment and still run.

 

Best way of using smoke is, to use the smoke of others. Team up with a US DD and combine her smoke with your sonar. Then again, this is not always possible.

 

These DDs are hard to play. Particularly for beginners or players with less experience in DD gameplay.

 

I for my part think it would have been better to not rush this mechanic into the game with a newly introduced DD line. There are other ways to do this. Like for example if you connect this bloom with the caliber of the guns. The bigger the caliber of the guns, the bigger the bloom. Because I honestly don't understand how the german 105mm guns have such a bloom while other nations don't suffer equally.

You are right and sadly that makes the German DDs the trashiest DDs in the game. WG decided to make the KM DDs so damn garbage for some reason and having hydro doesn't make up for their bad permorance.

​You have seen some of the brain dead perks they put in? seems World of Battleships is soon to be realized fully .-). I hope there are some voices of reason with the skill revamp but when i see the last few desighn decisions i really have a bad premonition.

Well  we will see :look:... In chinese servers leak two versions of new set of perks now, lets hope Alpha testers start to scream loudly first, if our worst fears come true ... and we follow ...

I free XP'd to T6 and that's so far the only which I have any experience so far.

And I'm not actually quite happy.

If I want to torp someone, I'm almost certainly detected.

If I fire at someone I'm certainly detected, (I dont have too big issues with that I have played with Russian DD's)

 

The combination of these is anything but good.

Low speed

Relatively bad manouverability

Relatively bad rate of fire

Relatively bad ammo (Or then I just dont know how to use it)

Hydro would be useful if there is other friendly DD's going to the cap first, and smoke up bit further in inside the cap. so I could sneak in to their smoke.

 

I tried to play like I play Fiji, not much luck

I tried to play like I play Russian DD's, Not much luck

I tried to play like I play USN DD's That was suicidal

 

Granted, I do not have too much experience from these ships yet, but they seem weak, It doesnt know is it a DD or ultra light cruiser, and it fails at both.

This "I fire my guns and am lit up like a Christmas tree" mechanic is total garbage. Makes this line completely useless. It seems with the German ships they always have to alternate between garbage and good. Cruisers garbage, Battleships good, DDs garbage, so the aircraft carriers will be huge.

No it isn't !!!!!! This is to prevent stealthfiring! You have barely 11 km of firing range and spot more than 15 it is not overkill, what if someone find a way to stealthfire? they should make the spot 20 km at least

The extreme bloom (and shot duration smoke) is to reduce hydro zerg effectiveness, not just long range HE stealth spam.

It pretty much renders the German DD line useless and inferior to the other already existing DD lines. It cripples the German DDs in so many ways. For example if you and a enemy DD contest the same cap, all the enemy DD has to do is force you into a fire fight and then pop smoke. He can still shoot you out of his smoke as some CA will be hanging around 12km of the cap being able to spot you thanks to you lighting up as a christmas tree after firing your guns. And in this situation you don't want to force the enemy DD out of it's hiding with your hydro no you rather want to run. So hydro is useless and bloom makes it impossible to contest any caps.

You were involved in a firefight and want to retreat? Too bad you have to cover 3+km to be invisible again, while enemy DDs have to cover like 1km.

If they planning on implementing this for all DDs to make stealth firing impossible, well then we're in for some fun as this will make DDs less enjoable to play. But I guess that's what WG is aiming for at the moment. The largest part of the player base is playing BBs and so WG makes the game fun for BBs and nothing else...

 

/edit So best tactics at the moment, go to the tech tree, click on the US flag and start that DD line!

I free xp'd to the t7 German DD. And I really enjoy it. 

The bloom is crazy, the guns are garbage, the torps are good - although the window of stealth torping is very small. 

But if u play it like an american mid tier cruiser and use islands to your advantage it can be pretty fun. And I have had some success in her so far. Although it is very difficult to carry in this ship. Hide, shoot, torp incoming BB's. All good fun. And the hydro is excellent, as other DD's haven't really gotten used to it yet. So for now it's great fun to rush smoke. At least if you have some cruiser support.
