Immeasurable Frustration - The biggest loss streak I ever had at the worst time

I currently have Premium Account and there's a +200% event. "What a great opportunity to use my flags" I thought. "What a blast it would be to see those points flooding in" I thought. Well I thought wrong!!

 

Without any overexaggeration I'm on my 16th loss in a row now. 16 matches played and not a single one won. I had my fair share of bad luck streaks before like everyone but I never had anything like this. And the worst part is yet to come. Pretty much every match I end up losing and wasting all those precious flags I had some of the best games I ever had in my WoWs career. I'm typically place 1-3 of my team, one time even cashing in even more XP points than the enemy despite the fact that they get their points doubled for victory.

 

I can't describe how I feel right now. When you gave your very best, everything went perfect, you cash in 4 citadel hits on enemy cruisers in your BB König, sunk one enemy, made 110k damage.. then you look at the stats and read 6vs3 - almost won. And suddenly, within a minute it's 2vs2 and you actually lose due to having less points than the enemy due to all those losses. When you go out of a game with 2650 XP despite a loss and think about just what exactly went wrong this time again. What more there is you could even do.

 

I get more and more the feeling that every flag you put on your mast raises your ELO for a few hundred till thousand points, forcing the matchmaker to "rebalance" it by placing you with teammates who in return have a few thousand points less than you. Otherwise I'm really out of explanations of how such an absurd loss streak could be achieved else.

Since the start of the ARP missions, I've had a horrific time.  I'm grinding tier 8 ships which I am not good enough to play and I cannot (generally) get teams that carry me.  My stats in the Nagato (secondary hit missions) have plummeted to the point where my WR is now below 50% in it, and my new tier 8 ships are dreadful - Fubuki at 32.14% WR, Mogami has *just* climbed back up to 50% (and f*** me, what a horrific ship that is) and I lost my first 3 Amagi games in a row until I finally got my first win. 

 

Nothing has gone right for me since the ARP mission started and I'm really not enjoying the game.  At this rate, I suspect I'll be taking a break after the Takao and Nachi missions, assuming I even complete them.  In fact, I created a topic about how much I was hating things but I never posted it.  For the lols, here it is:

 

 

Thanks to the tier 8 mission requirements for some of the ARP ships which I really want (IJN ship collector), I am playing tier 8 ships.  Sadly, I'm not ready yet to play tier 8 ships and don't have enough free XP to get the best modules, so I am playing ships outside of my comfort zone and which aren't that great.  The Fubuki feels too damn slow and not maneuverable enough, and the engine burns every other hit - which you cannot dodge because she cannot dance like other IJN DDs - get shot, repair engine, get shot again, coast to a halt and die in a hail of shots.  Meanwhile, the Mogami is, frankly, horrific.  I should be receiving compensation for driving that thing.  Very slow, awful turning circle during which she bleeds speed like mad, woeful turret rotation, pitiful hit points and made of the purest citadel, clad in armour so thin it makes aluminium foil look like the door at Fort Knox.  My Mogami takes damage just from being in the same battle as German BBs.

Actually, none of them seem to be much better than me - I cannot even get teams that carry me:

 

If I do get a good game (over 100k damage in stock Mogami), then:

Top tier BB was unhappy with team deployment after 3 minutes so sailed into bottom left corner of the map, raging and swearing at the team on the way until going AFK.  All 4 enemy ships were on very low health and an active top tier BB would have won us the game.

 

Still, maybe a "try your luck" container will cheer me up?:

Ditch tier 8, play a tier 5 division with a friend:

Still, at least most of them tried:

Run out of planes because you've been completely outplayed by the enemy CV?  No problem, just sail into map edge then quit game.

 

Sigh.  Ignore the bad team, MM and AFKer whine - I can deal with that at tiers 5-7, I mainly just needed to get it off my chest, sorry.  But I don't know whether to give up on the tier 8 ARP missions or try to push on.  I'm really not enjoying this at the moment but I would love the Takao and Nachi.  However, at the rate I am going (few wins, fewer kills) I'm not going to get either of them anyway (yes, yes, I know it's still early days - but the targets feel so far away).  I'm worried that pushing on will simply result in massive burn out and disenchantment with the game (which has happened to me in WoT a few times after hard missions) and, frankly, as much as I say I'm not bothered by stats, etc, it is painful for me to look at those stats.  Really painful        

 

The only crumb of comfort I can offer you OP, is that things must get better sooner or later.  In my case, since midday today I've played 6 games and won them all, so I feel a little better.

Had the same the other day despite coming first in most of the battles (have the screen shots if you really need proof on the first place). Know the feeling matey. Defeat after defeat and all you can do is shake your head at WG MM. Game sure gets annoying when it wants to.

 

Edit: friends of mine keep saying the more flags they have on the more cursed they are and have losing battles but personally I haven't found that to be the case for the most part. Sometimes but I'm sure that just normal.

 

I tried Sat and Sunday 12/13 Nov and got more losses, then I tried again today Mon 14... ​. When you come everyday and get this I wonder why I bother playing this game.

After 5 losses in a row today, I took a break and did something else. It got better afterwards, but teams hiding in corner are extremly frustrating today.

Try a different ship, take a break, play another game for a bit..

Some of my best games in terms of sinking enemy ships and doing damage have ended in losses.

I consider those to be a moral victory at least..

Same here. Those missions really lured the "best" players into the game. Now we have weekend matches on Wednesdays and let's not begin with the actual weekends...

 

This could have been a legendary match...

Granted this was low tier, but even those can be won at times...

What I do nowadays is this:

 

• when I lose a battle I always change a ship
• I stop playing one ship for that day if I am -2 games with her altogether (i.e. 2 more loses than wins)
• I stop playing "Ranked" / "Random" for that day entirely if I am -4 games with all my ships combined (i.e. 4 more loses than wins)

I had about 4 losses in a row while trying to get my Donskoi's first win yesterday, with an average damage of 100k. I actually started being insulting in chat, which I try my best to avoid, it was that bad. Several examples of really bad BB play in specific, like an NC who was reversing while broadsiding, and 2 BBs that sat back when we needed 1 kill to turn the game in our favor.

The same here today i have seen only defeats i dont know how many games. In a dd every time i use smoke there is a rain of torps coming towards me and kills me so i decided to not use smoke anymore. In a bb or i am the main target or i last untill the end of the game where the only thing i can do is run. I will call it defeatday today.

The only thing I can add to this is that it feels like I'm more likely to have a stable win/loss ratio when there is a lot of people playing. I've tried playing during daytime and it can be really awful. Teams often lose without sinking more than a couple of ships on the other side. Lower as well as the very highest tiers are also more unstable. I can understand that there's a lot of new players in the lower tiers, so if you get unlucky, you can have a real bad time. For some reason, this is also prevalent when T9 and T10 ships are involved.

Ending up 1-3 but losing always? You are doing your damage too late, like leeching damage from the back. Its always those crap players who live longest because  all they do is run away, not fighting for caps.

You have to take in account two things.

1- "MM is random, teams are random" it's a fairy tale. If it was true it would follow the probability's rules( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probability ) and either winning and losing streaks would be exceptions.

Since in WoWS on the contrary streaks are common (mainly losing ones), there MUST be other rules MM follows instead.

 

IMHO the main rule usually is that "best session WR means best MM". Just after is that "best ship's WR means best MM" (anyway subject to the first, so is fully applicable to the first 1-2 battle of the session).

That's why every WoWS player says the best way to break a losing streak is to STOP PLAYING (I know... a game made not to be played seems something ridiculous...).

 

 

2- Unfortunately it seems EVERY new patch changes the above rules in some way... So you better remember Sung-Tzu: "He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight." That's it...

Not if you manage to Sail into a Polar Night Area, which would be true cause my lastest Lose was on Warrio's path.  Lost 5 Games in a row now, 3 times first, 2 times top 3. 4 where with my Lex which made me think "maybe it's the CV itself" so I gave my GK a try, then that happened and my Frustration went skyrocket. Weekends Man... don't play on them

I also don't believe, that MM is random. I stopped playing WoT due to their method of MM. I think they use that to adjust winratio. Problem is, the more games you have, the longer the losing streak has to last to have an impact on your winratio. So you can look at my WoT stats and you can see, WR is going up and then it's going down pretty regularly and if you know you are going to have a 30% winratio for the next 30 games or so, you get frustrated and so I stopped WoT altogether. Might happen to WoWs too. I have no idea why they want to piss of their playerbase so badly. Today also no victory at all. And funnily enough, it always happens, when there is actually some reason for me to play. I want the Takao. I might give up on that. The try seems pointless.... I consider suiciding until my WR is low enough or I was wondering wether to ask everyone to give me a "plays badly" report..... maybe that has some influence and they'll give me better teams because I'm so bad.... but I doubt it.

I get players who don't understand how bad they are. They would change their playstyle then, would they. One glorious example, a NC went from the start right away to the backline ignoring the situation completely. Team doesn't cap of course. And that guy complains about a tomatoteam even after I pointed out, that his play is not useful. When I died, I checked and he had 42% winratio in 2.6K games and 38% in that particular ship with 290 games. I'm really not good enough to carry such players. I don't need Kraken, I need balanced teams, where you actually have a chance to win. I want fun playing, I don't need to prove myself against impossible odds. Stop that WG!

Had a terrible loose streak... Might be deserved after going on a 12 win streak... and now a 7 loose streak -_-

Maybe low tier ships are not my forté anymore. I can't seem to carry games anymore.

 

On the bright side, I am raking in the detonation flags now!

Interesting, I checked a couple of players here on this thread. All way beyond 50% winratio. I guess bad players won't complain about losing streaks. They won't even know they're having one....

Do you think anyone would play some thousands of games with like 30-50% server's average damage if he'd give any damn about results? They just click 'next battle' untill they'll get bored.
