[BABBY] StringWitch Beta Tester 1,608 posts Report post #2 Posted November 11, 2016 I've seen some hope expressed that regular British commanders might be used with Commonwealth ships. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the case? And is there a hilarious stereotypical Australian announcer akin to the British one?

To the best of my knowledge, sadly you can not use Royal Navy captains on Commonwealth ships :-(

[UNICS] Nechrom Beta Tester 4,870 posts 10,112 battles Report post #10 Posted November 11, 2016 Scratches my "true" CL itch. Very fun ship so far. Incredibly nimble and sneaky with some nice torps and a really long duration spotter plane, for when "Atlanta-range" just isn't enough. Getting 15 skill points will take some time, but when it happens... 8.6 km detection.

[PKTZS] JapLance Weekend Tester 2,567 posts 18,265 battles Report post #12 Posted November 11, 2016 By the way, I just read the description of the ship in the shop: The modified British Leander-class light cruiser Perth sails the open waters in World of Warships! The ship was given to the Royal Australian Navy and was operated by it during the early period of World War II. Now, it is yours to command in the game! HMAS Perth is an outstanding escort ship, which, unlike regular British cruisers, carries useful HE shells. It also comes equipped with an interesting set of consumables, a Smoke Generator, and Spotting Aircraft, that will surely come in handy in the heat of battle on the high seas. All this combined makes Perth a guilty pleasure to play! This could lead to many misunderstandings and complaints. IT'S NOT A BRITISH CRUISER AND WON'T TRAIN BRITISH CAPTAINS. Agread Pretty Sure i will never get her ether for the same reason. Blyskawica however was a must as was HMS Belfast.HELL if HMS Warrier or Victory was in game i would Buy them! The_Tyke Players 456 posts 10,463 battles Report post #16 Posted November 11, 2016 First time out, lovin' her. The weird new smoke generation is very nice. Missing the 'Repair' function, but you can't have everything. Could this possibly replace Molly as my No.1? I'm thinkin' she could. Recommended purchase? Without a doubt. Buy her.** **I have no affiliation with WG
[NWP] Blixies Beta Tester, Players 2,160 posts 6,904 battles Report post #17 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) From the wiki: Pros: Lowest detection radius of all Tier VI cruisers. Has access to high explosive rounds, giving her more flexibility against angled targets and destroyers. Good handling charateristics: short rudder shift time, and tight turning circle. Comes with a unique version of the Smoke Generator consumable that allows Perth to move at low speeds and take her smoke cloud with her. Can choose between equipping Spotting Aircraft or Catapult Fighter. Cons: Loses access to Repair Party that comes standard on sister ship Leander. Dreadfully bad anti-aircraft suite, and cannot equip Defensive AA Fire. Low health pool; narrowly misses out on having the least health of any Tier VI cruiser (Nürnberg retains that honor). Shortest main battery firing range of all Tier VI cruisers. As a owner of the Belfast, I'm gonna pass on this one. By the way, the smoke is WORSE than any other smoke in the game (IMO), and here's why: You can move with the smoke yes, but if you go at 1/2 speed, you will glide out of it and will be spotted. If you move at 1/4 you stay in the smoke, but you are almost stationary anyway. The solution is to keep switching between 1/4 and 1/2 speed, which is pain in the rear and too much effort. The cooldown is the longest in the game. The CD of this one basically starts after the smoke is gone. (You keep laying short duration clouds, instead of laying a field with long duration). [CPA] Procrastes Beta Tester 4,083 posts 4,481 battles Report post #25 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) On the subject of the various single- or double-ship tech trees Poland: I don't really have a problem with having a number of premium ships outside of the regular tech trees, as long as they bring something new to the game. The Blyskawica truly does that. She stands out as a destroyer with a very unique feel to her, and she's been great fun from the moment i first took her out of port. Pan-Asia: The Lo Yang, presently* being the only destroyer in the game that can equip sonar, is just as unique in her own way as the Blyskawica. As for the Pan-Asian line in itself, it was a neat way of handling an iffy political/cultural issue. We have some nice Asian ships in the game, with a cool-looking quasi-historical flag to go with them, and the prospect of more ships to come. Also, maybe, a future tech tree of silver ships? I approve. The Commonwealth: To be fair, the Perth does bring something new to the game: Her "moving smoke" mechanic. Even so, it would be logical - in my mind at least - if the Royal Navy captains could serve aboard the ships of the Commonwealth, and vice versa. It would be nice to be able to, for example, switch a captain between the Belfast and the Perth, since I believe the skill trees would be compatible (HE on both ships = 'Demolition Expert' is a viable skill choice). But if Wargaming has chosen a different path, I suppose that they should, for the time being, be given the benefit of the doubt. An explanation might be forthcoming...? * See post 28-29 below.
