What the actual **** WG?
Why does my Yamato sound like hes shooting airsoft guns, and not a massive roaring monstrosities?

Imagine my face when I started playing Yamato and heard (literary) "pfffft  pffft  pfffft" when I fired my guns :facepalm:

 

Audio

  • Ambient sounds will now be chosen for playback depending on the map
  • Improved sounds of main gun shots for some ships

the "sound team" at its finest moment

 

They make a mess with each update making sounds worse and worse and worse, when you get used to those sounds they show you that it can be done much worse :D

The worst ever sound is when a shell hit the water. It was criticized to much in PTS feedback posts and they didn't give a **** but pushed it into the live client.

This awful and totally unrealistic sound make me want to play this game a lot less, because it happen all the time that shots miss me and i have this horrible **** sound in my ear for the whole battle.

I would if I knew where to find it, but trust me you don't want to hear it...

Its pretty much like this:

BEFORE:

-I'm playing Yamato, guns are roaring around, someone comes to ask me whats all that ruckus they hear and I'm like "I'm playing the biggest mofo BB in history with the biggest mofo guns ever made!!! LISTEN TO THEM ROAR!!!"

NOW:

- I'm playing Yamato, I shoot something, someone comes to ask me wtf is that sound and I'm like "-Our cat sneezed. -But we don't have a cat... - I know... (turns down the volume)"

I dont have the Yamato, so I cant judge on that.

 

That said, I didnt find issue with the sound during the matches I played today with the Izumo.

I liked the gun sounds a lot more during CBT too, when the game went into open beta the sounds lost a lot of bass and reverb. Especially on the BBs the guns sounded a lot less menacing which was dissapointing.

I guess if some Igor hasn't mistaken sound files with those from WoT, because it sounds like short barrel 37mm-s at best, not something 10 times bigger.

Ambient sounds are also terrible now, wind blowing on Fault Line made me pissed off after just those 30 sec. of waiting before battle. Actually all sounds have some strange pitch, from that terrible water splash to comment guy, i bet they overdid something with compression.

 

Adding typical post-update flood of people with game crash or starting after 10min (some 2-3 minimum per game for me today) and bad luck, i am quite disheartened to play today, sigh.

Why seems it so hard for so many YTer to find a proper background music for their clips?

Think the biggest problem , for me personally, is the overly loud wind noise that is just an annoying whine constantly... gun sounds are worse now, crew voices are quieter and herder to hear.... Come on WG give us back the old audio files !

Wind is not too loud, it's somehow too high pitched, like commercials in tv that hold the dB norm but are pumped up with pitch to sound 'louder'. On contrary, crew voices, 'drums' at the start of the battle and some other sounds are like someone had aplied 'sink' effect to them and played them slower. Terribly bad update.

I'm not super happy about the sound update either. They have added a "doppler" effect to everything, like even the "ding" on engine and rudder orders. I don't see the point. It feels like someone just added effects because "more effects is cooler".

I also preferred the 'old' sounds.

 

The water sounds (shells hitting water close to your ship) are quite annoying.

Yea the sound of my Tirpitz guns are crap now. Just sounds crunchy and weird realy. Probably what bothers me the most.

 

But yea WG realy have an issue with sound, WG seriously STOP remaking the sound all the dam TIME!

I know we all have our fetish but PLEASE dont fix it if it aint broken and you are a dam expert in breaking the sound.

 

Our ears still ring from the tinnitus sound or the electronic sound when modules where incapacitated. Whey the hell is it so hard to listen to your player base and it cant be that hard to figure out what sounds are "annoying" and what sounds good to people.

Must be a ton of know how in that department and science to apply.

I mean I dont think I ever have had to complain about that to any other game studio but WG, its like every other patch or so one has to tell you you messed the sound up again and are torturing our ears!

 

Anyway the sound technicians at WG must be the luckiest bastards ever, a steady job redoing the sound every patch, thats like every month.
