Even there was only negative feedback (all regions) about the new sound when a shell hit the water, was this pushed into the live client. Why?

This sound is the worst and is absolutely unnatural. Maybe someone from WG should take a heavy stone and throw it into water and check out, if this also make an approx 6-8 second long rushing water sound with reverb effect, like it does in game when a shell hit the water. BIG THUMBS DOWN for this awful sound effect.

dont like the metal voiceovers either. its like its recorder from inside a can of Spam.

Variety of sounds is good but it is even better to keep it as realistic as possible.

Most of the sounds is not unfortunately

If it is not all you can do is to make them sound EPIC - so for instance for BB guns we want to hear BASS so strong that we will feel shivers.

 

now.. What have you done to Yamato the most powerful guns in game - is this some kind of champagne party ?

I have ambient turned off anyway because the constant random easter egg sfx in port was always annoying.

 

So with that in mind: Overall any changed sounds seem heavily compressed compared to before, producing some odd stereo distance flickering. The comm sounds (before "enemy fleet spotted" etc.) are especially unpleasant. Hull hit sounds are the only thing that's better imo. Water splash sounds go on for far longer than the visual effect and sound more like white noise than actual water (but the factual 'plop' of the shell impact is heavier which I do like). Building up the battle start sound even more is just unnecessary; I'd like to be able to disable it entirely anyway.

 

Oh and the gun sound used by Gremyashchy still sounds like crap since like 20 updates ago.

Also can we have that long reverb back on Warspite's guns?

 

There's also an issue with the shell following effect played when you press Z (default) in that it plays lower pitced/slowed down on occasion (always on the first time doing it in a battle, sometimes even after that). This bug has been present since 2-3 updates ago.

 

Separate volume sliders for others guns and your own guns would be great. The default balance has own guns being INCREDIBLY LOUD while everything else in the game is what seems to be over 25 decibels more quiet. I've turned down gunfire sounds a lot, almost to mute, just to get the setting to reduce their noise by any noticeable degree (is the slider not a linear adjustment, if you get what I mean?) but this means other players' gun sounds are incredibly quiet now while impacts of enemy shells on their hulls is still full volume.

 

Finally here's a suggestion for the one thing you can improve with MOAR SOUNDS as your design teams seems so eager to do: Make the current secondary gun sound the one used by 75-100mm guns, then add some more epic sounds for progressively larger secondary calibres (a set for 120-155mm, then reserve another for larger guns in case you finally add any ships with those). Or even just set a unique sound per gun (not per ship as you've done — Tenryu/Kuma/Yubari/Katori guns should all sound the same, but they don't), and apply that to the secondaries (so Nagato secondaries will share the 14cm/50 and 12cm/40 gun sounds). Also make the secondary sounds not cut each other out when many overlap; this problem was introduced when the sound engine was updated (5.8?) and hasn't been fixed.

Various things have already been said but I'll add the ambient wind sound to the list. Immersion is one thing but I don't want to have a storm raging next to my ears the entire time.

I don't know what's up with the sound design team, but the sounds get worse with every update.

The ambient wind sounds are so loud now, that when I zoom out I have the feeling I stand right on top of Mount Everest.

 

I vote for a roll back and that the design team is forced to actually listen to their sounds before they build them into the game.

And I thought, something was wrong with my ears and wanted to schedule an appointment with a doctor. Now I see, WG messed up the sounds once again.

 

  • shells hitting water: awful
  • the new "Action Stations!" call, when you load into the game sounds like some drunked idiot
  • some guns, e.g. Chapaev, sound like it's some air-soft gun shooting, not cruiser cannons

in short: they suck.

I don't know what have you done with them, but guns sounds are awful. Yamato guns sounds like airsoft guns, not BB guns.

After the patch, water splashing sounds "keep playing" way too long and is very annoying altogether. Wind sounds are annoying, had to turn ambient sounds off completely. Ingame announcement noises around "battle starts" and "our team is about to win" sound terrible and should be changed back to previous. Apparently all the sound changes were terrible, done for no reason and should be reverted and forgotten.

The new sounds are awful. The water splash sound it's too loud and too long. The gun sounds lost alot of oomph. Last, but most definitely not least, the ambient sounds are crap. Did your sound guys play the game? Hearing 10-15 minutes of constant wind whistle is maddening. IMHO the best sound were the ones in CBT. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Totally agree about the water splash, tried lower its volume but then you loose all other SFX too.


 

Try playing without Music and getting harassed by a Flint, constants splash eco. :(

I'll add to that Błyskawica. Seriously, some time ago these guns sounded beautifully... now they sound like popgun in a can (I'm not sure if it's this update that broke it but it seems pretty likely). Why the hell do they feel the need to mess around with sounds that nobody complains about!? I'm pretty sure there are some sounds people were NOT happy with. Adding more of these - in place of ones that people liked - hardly counts as progress. If you guys have too much time where sounds are concerned, take care of questionable quality of a couple national voiceovers. Oh, and do something about the fact that when sailing ARP ship I don't hear other ships talking with their proper voiceovers but everything gets switched to the appropriate ARP voice. If I wanted everything in ARP voiceover, I'd pick the bloody ARP voice instead of "national".

I agree BB gun sounds are a step backwards and sound too "pop"ie.

 

Please disregard this, my settings were set to Sound = Low and it did sound rubbish.  when I changed it to Sound = High and restarted the game it does sound much much better.

The new sounds are absolutely annoying... to the point were I do not want to play.... some of the new sounds are like collision noises and is utterly confusing... WoW you have gone over the top... it is now just an unbearable row when playing the game and distracting to the point were it affects my game play... also since the new update I have bad lag... which I have not had before. I can do without the headache I seem to have since this update. FIX IT please!!!

The water splash sounds is terrible, when I heard it the first time I thought I got citadeled 17 times.

 

Everytime it sounds like 2 ships are smashing each other, it's awful.

 

There was nothing wrong with the old splash sound, why fix what isn't broken? does it have to be michael bay movie with every sound being over-exaggerated?

I think you should be VERY careful when you do changes that affects the game so much as the sound does.

 

The new sound of he-shells hitting the ship is just wrong, if you listen careful it sounds like someone is banging och a empty metal-barrel in the background, and the sound when shells hits the water is just strange..
