[SCRUB] Aotearas Players 8,460 posts 13,076 battles Report post #103 Posted November 1, 2016 For as long as a hit has a random chance to completely sink you regardless of your HP, this game will never hit it big in competitive play. There's a reason why the anti-detonation flag is a must for Ranked, etc. and since one can't reliably farm those flags on the side to keep ones competitive play going, anyone who runs out of those flags is at a disadvantage that might strike disaster at any moment. Unless of course you want to pay neat money for those bloated flag bundles to get the flag ...

Not necessarily.Viewers might appreciate the detonation mechanic because it can lead to unexpected developments. A match in which one team is losing and makes a comeback due to a full-health detonation on the enemy team is more memorable and exciting than one in which a team gains an advantage and keeps it throughout the match. Not so much fun for the players though to lose an earned advantage due to random chance. For showmatches it might be one thing, but for a serious competition this kind of unpredictable randomness is the anti-thesis to skill, which is supposed to be the entire point of such competitions. In any business model, showmatch and professional players are of secondary importance to customer "preferences" It all boils down to revenue generation potential. To elaborate a bit The playerbase in WoWs is on a smaller side , but still substantial. However, as it attracts on average older players (which tend to have stable and substantial income), there is a rather good revenue generating potential. The slower pace might be additionally attractive as it gets more difficult to follow fast paced shooters the older you are. Furthermore, with good casting the strategic view comes into spotlight. WoWs might be overall "slow", however there are always several instances of rather epic battles when opposing fleets collide when trying to dominate the map. Then we have rather quick pace action from viewer perspective. Well visible especially when the camerawork is closer to action. As we saw in the Cup games, even casters have major difficulties in following all that happens during such encounters. Speaking of RNG and ESL: WoT has even more RNG. Yet it is a successful Esport. Ammo-rack is basically equal to detonation, dispersion is similar to accuracy, and on top of all there is penetration&dmg RNG which does not exist in WoWs. So please, as imho most players here are coming from WoT, lets not be too judgemental here.
