Yeah the fanbase...

 

I still have a grudge against the anime that transformed Yuudachi into a Poi-machine while she actually have a great Kai Ni CG, great lines (I'll show you the nightmare of the Solomon) and amazing stats that reflects her great history performance.

 

On the topic of the IRL ships I like and I don't like that much in the game, there's Kumano.

Amusing when you know the most accurate record of the FNBoG to date shows she actually didn't do much and it's actually Amatsukaze which rekt US back lines the most.

From my understanding, she says 'poi' in the first place as a reference to the battle, the reason being that there is a lot of confusion surrounding the battle. 'Poi' is a particle that represents uncertainty in the statement, similar to how it's usually translated as 'like' in English (think valley girl).

Yeah, I remember reading that explanation in the kancolle wiki. But last decades shed a lot of light on this battle and we're now pretty confident about how it mostly went for most participating ships.

Yuudachi is my favourite Shipgirl in kancolle (who would have guessed right?) And i like her whole design, her voice is great, her lines are great, her design is great, and dont get me started on how much I love her whole "nightmare of Solomon Personality and I already Loved the Shiratsuyu class of ships long before I ever saw her, So its a Love love love situation when it comes to her for me. Her Poi-s are just like a cherry on top of the cake for me

It's a shame, history is super cool and these girls are ships, my first reflex was to learn more about them by checking what they did back then...

But hey no can do. And this is why today I post lengthy historical articles here, to share my passion =3

By the way the first naval battle of guadalcanal is also known as the third battle of Savo Island.

The anime was a catchphrase/verbal tic machine overall. I've never actually gotten tired of the constant poi-ing, though. But what I actually like about the anime is that it showed the serious side of her as well. She's a work hard, play hard kind of character. You rarely see that she's that diligent in fanworks.

 

Should mention that I started liking her in the anime, when I didn't know a whole lot about the game. If I had to pick a specific moment, it was when Fubuki was complaining about someone spreading rumours about her, and when Mutsuki asked who started them, Fubuki immediately pointed to Yuudachi at the same table. She's the kind of friend who will let you know her honest opinion rather than going for white lies.

Well I do know useless and pointlessly precise data about some ships but randomely (For example I usually know some guns' muzzle velocity by heart but I have no idea about what their barrel lengths are and never remember them).

 

Also although I remember names I am TOTALLY HOPELESS when it comes to dates. I do not remember ANY date. Even knowing the month is something miraculous for me. In general numerisation when it isn't a precise data like a length, a weight, a speed... is something I don't recall. Which is why I have a super hard time keeping up with German Destroyers.

 

Despite that mess of random pointless precise data and lack of general one I do like my cute shipfus too >.<

Shou is so good when her princessness breaks into something rude/angry/cynical. One of the few good moments in anime was her verbal counterattack at Kaga :P

If there are any shipgirls i (ans non-playing KC fan) do hate, it's the oh-so-glorious senpais from 1st CarDiv. Especially considering how shitty ships they were in reality in contrast to state-of-the-art Cranes.

And i will always take Akebono's grudge over typical moe sweetness. But well, i generally prefer people that simply tell you what they think (that's why KTKM is so good as well).
Cuteness? Shigure. Sweet with a dark side.

Seeing Zui through Turkey Shooting perspective and forgetting about Santa Cruz f.e. is odd too... that was the carrier that actually fought the best against US ones. But nope, she'll be a irritating brat while Kaga is a walking perfection. Bleh.
Of course historical roots of this lay also in the 'genius' way Japanese were dealing with their CAGs. Let's keep the most experienced pilots on the worst hulls untill someone wrecks them, yep.

Well actually, in all honesty, the luckyest carrier from Japan was Shoukaku, not Zuikaku.

Not taking a hit is one thing ; being hit god knows how many times and surviving nonetheless despite the abysmal abilities IJN crews had in terms of damage control is another.

 

Saying that Zuikaku fought well is a bit overexagerating though. She mainly survived. At Santa Cruz, her aircrafts did the least damage, and afterwards, she didn't do much at all.

The only battle were she fought decetly was the eastern solomons, and even there, success is shared with her sister.

I already got a whole bunch of figures, 2 of them are tokitsukaze and Shimakaze respectively, could probably get away with murder in my family, oh and yeah was some fun battles, even if well.. they didn't all go too well

I admit i can be wrong about Zuikaku's exact record, it's like it was written before about remembering dates - i can remember the general happenings in the battle but which strike group made exactly what... it's easier with gun duels. Still the point is: the general view of 1st CarDiv is overrated and based more on their seniority than real value. Quite typically Japanese, I'd say.

 

A really good point about Shoukaku. She was suffering for both of them, when she was gone, Zui's luck was gone as well.
