Stat wise, Essex seems to beat Taiho considerably. Where Taiho beat other carriers is plot, a lot of it and two of them, coupled with l2d skin and unhinged, overbearing personality which seems to be popular That and she's only (?) IJN CV that doesn't require pair to do their best and she's tanky asf on her own.

Most of my favourite shipfu's have a big plot, and that skin certainly helps. It's unlikely I would've spent all of my coins and wisdom cubes in an attempt to get Taihou if that skin wasn't available, I rather saved them to spend it all in an attempt to get Sirius. Oh well, I guess I'll go back to Danbooru, at least the Taihou pictures are available for me.

 

Then again, Essex isn't flat either.

It's a bit hard to explain really. A waifu needs to have personality and looks for me. Plot can help with the looks, but if, say, I don't like her face, then plot won't help as much. If I really don't like her, plot won't save her either.

I find hard to get attached to basically 2d image, animated or not with few voice lines playing on repeat, one for each action. Now, if they would have more lines or even better, be more... interactive, akin to chat bots or Cortana/Siri/Google Assistant, that would be entirely different matter. Though that would require synthesizing voice actresses and then coding basically personality - Akagi or Javelin speaking in cold, detached manner would be pure, unmoderated what.

I do like both Kongous as well (though in Kancolle I prefer Haruna, and KC Prinz Eugen still best shipfu). I think the later hairstyle on Arpeggio Kongou looks better.

 

As for Azur Lane I have no reason to complain anymore, until I try to get Sirius of course. 

But I have Taihou now.  <3

Auto? Yeah, CA on auto is questionable.

I usually just run one CA as the tank (often Portland), which is unfortunate for Mogami and the other IJN CA since they can't tank.

Manual so far, I've barely 3 starred 10-4. And I've stumbled once into Jintsuu torps... no bueno

 

And it seems just dodge high evasion seems to be better at tanking than relying on hp/armor. Phoenix as solo Vanguard simply refuses to die. Heck, she doesn't even proc her heal skill, Akashi and Shouhou keep up with battle damage, while poor man's Hood Pennsylvania keep chucking ordnance.

Generally speaking yes, evasion tanking is better than actual tanking. CAs get much better at that though once you level them above 100. Mogami e.g. goes from 34 eva to 80 at level 120 which is hilarious. Balti meanwhile gets up to 57 from 26 which is workable.

It's a combination that works best. Evasion gives diminishing returns pretty early.

Portland is amazing pre-120, but as soon as you start getting other CA to 120, they all get pretty great evasion. Making even some sleeper ships like Nachi and Myoukou great as tanks due to their high health and evasion (trash FP though).

Pretty much all CL reach the evasion sweet spot already at lvl100, making health (and defensive skills) the most important factor, and if torps are your issue the fact that they use light armor is a boon.

Tl;dr - Only a select few CA are actually tanky pre-120.

 

I'm hyped for York Kai when we get her. Exeter Kai is fine, but York just has that little extra FP and evasion to make her truly special. Enough evasion that you can easily use two HP aux gear like toolbox, bulges or extinguisher, and just skip beaver badge and steering gear.

London, York and Exeter Kai are going to make a memey RN CA vanguard.

Poi refuses to drop as she is a very bad girl. (I get the feeling this is some kind of cosmic punishment for getting both Kaga and Akagi so quickly...)

 

I've said my plan before, but I'll reiterate it:

At the moment I'm grinding an EU cruiser group for Saint Louis, I've already prepared an IB cruiser group for Roon, and my hope is that by the time I start my grind for Ibuki I'll have both Sendai and Jintsuu retrofitted. Obviously I now have Yuubari who should make grinding Ibuki a fraction easier (but not by much).

 

Oh, btw. I got Taihou today! She has a much higher-pitched voice than I expected.

Unless you have torpedo foxes already, I wouldn't set your hopes high, their drop rate seems to be... not high

Eh, good luck. I've been grinding for Columbia for like half a year already and before that spent several months on Jintsu as well. I don't even have Sendai.

Problem with both Columbia and Jintsu is that they can only drop on boss nodes, so you only get one chance per run. Sendai at least can drop from every battle.

What to do with Akagi whenever (if) I get her? I don't trust her anywhere near Taihõ, and I have to protecc Taihõ so I better get rid of Akagi. 

That high-pitched voice was something I noticed as well, but I cheated since I watched a Youtube video with all l2d skins before I started playing Azur Lane. Now that I have her it's not as annoying as I feared it would be.

I think Taiho can handle herself, she seems craftier than Akagi.

Roon is the one you need to keep an eye on.

TBH while both have psychotic personalities, after getting acquainted with their stories, both are clumsy dorks not exactly capable, or rather don't know how to express emotions without going batship one way or another as well both are excessively jealous, maybe out of fear of losing "commander".

 

You could say its their form of PTSD - Arizona, Helena and Yorktown being shell shocked and/or fearful of being forgotten while Kaga got cold and ruthless.
