Mogami called useless in Ranked. Wat do?

I let out a small complaint about WG balance.

get told that Mogamis are useless and better off dead as they are pointless to bring into ranked and im just increasing everyone chanses to loose.

Wat do? Get a good ship... simple as that. Most any other T8 is better than Mogami for Ranked. Exceptions maybe Tashkent and Lexi, and Hipper is about on the same low level.

I use stock hull 155'er Mogami in ranked and so far have done quite well. Sure some ship might be better, but I somehow like the bugger. Healthy stealth fire range and 3 Bensons worth of guns and enough torpedoes to make most ships blush a bit. I think that sticking to ship one can play is vastly better possibility than picking up something one feels uncomfortable in. Sure Bismarck might be the best think ever, but even then just jumping into one is far more detrimental to team than shining in sub-par ship.

Mogami requires special approach and it will take lots of battles in Mogami to master it, but even then you will not stop hearing often citadel hit sound. BBs love shooting Mogami, even when they have better target, they choose to shot Mogami because very likely citadel hit, and angling does not save you very much from it (expect avoiding double citadel hit or being smaller target to hit). And to have any purpose in ranked you must have complete concealment built. My Mogami detection range is 9.3 km.

To have any useful impact on ranked battles, I use this strategy:

At the start i rush forward with my DDs to the cap, but i go bit on the side to take some rock cover but still must be able to see cap area with my guns.

There you shoot enemy DDs, as long they are visible. Then stop shooting for 20 seconds to become hidden, make turn and send your torps into that cap area, because by that time bigger enemy ships are coming to the cap and your torps have big effect.

And then pretty much circle around, spam good targets with HE. If you become primary target,stop shooting and go concealment mode.

Repeat the all process again.

Anyway Mogami play style requires from player absolute and total awareness of all enemy ships near you, where they shoot, where their guns are pointed, etc, and you select best moment when to shoot and show yourself.

Small mistake leads to instant destruction of your ship. Also presence of CV is devastating for Mogami, because above tactic is useless then, they keep you spotted.

Can Chapayev do more in ranked? Yes i think it can, i have both ,but with Mogami i have 333 battles. But you got to work with what you have.

And remember, what BBs do to you, this is what you do to DDs.

I strongly prefer the Cheeky Chapayev to the Origami Mogami in ranked.

Cheeky has longer ranged guns, fast turning turrets plus radar.

 

I'm still in the 11 to 15 ranked grouping, where it doesn't matter what you play as the enemy team will have players that don't know how to shoot well. Ranks 6 to 10 will be a whole different ball game...

Mogami is pretty much useless.

 

Bring a Chappy, that radar is brutal, not seen a good mogami game yet, they are pretty much the first to die, plus the captains look like lemmings, charging in and dieing, nothing to add to the team, no smoke, no radar, they are just BB bait.

 

Grind a Chappy or buy an Atago, only way to go for cruisers I think.

Now seriously. Pre-turret traverse nerf ones, range is ok but let the premium have the special trait that Mogami originally had, being able to choose a CL or CA playstyle with just one ship. I really miss that. It was my reason to start playing this game.

Play Atago or Chapayev if you want to use a cruiser. Or even a New Orleans. Mogami is just bad for ranked, it adds nothing to your team.

I had success with Stealth 155 Mogami(A Hull version), but now I have Full Stealth Chapa and it works even better. The radar is excellent addition when it reaches further than your concealment. Grind Chapa if you want to play cruisers in ranked.

Mogami is ok in my noob opinion. There are just much better options like the chapayev and atago (atago being a better mogami with health repair) 

Mogami 203's hit like a bag of bricks, with HE you can devastate DD up to 13km with ease, with concealment it is very stealthy. The AP rounds on Mogami are no Ibuki rounds, they will citadel the fack out of other cruisers. The problem is that most players won't have concealment and will not play the proper IJN cruiser game-play resulting in whine topics such as this.

As far as the "it gets citadeled a lot" tears...please name me a cruiser that doesn't? 

For tier 8 I would suggest

1. Chapayev/Kutuzov (chapeyev preferred because radar + concealment) P.S. My Chapayev is a better Witherer farmer than my Zao.

2. Atago/Mogami (Atago preffered because slightly better camo and health regen)

3. Everything else (American and German at this tier are good only at close ranges where they also receive citadels quite fast resulting is fast death)

About Mogami, this ship was my wet fantasy for a long time when I started playing this game a year ago. But they nerfed it when I was at Furutaka, so never got pass that. Got Ashigara and love the ship, but to be honest the only ship im looking forward to in the IJN line is Zao .. so yea.... maybe next year I think Mogami is the only ship, people prefer stock hull version ... kinda sounds weird.

Ugh, I can fully see why i should get a RU CA, but every fiber in my body tells me no.
Simply because any pre-cold war RU ships IRL were.. yes... Not really well performing ships.
When it come to soviet naval gun tecnology, the czech republic had much better, and thats coming from a landlocked country..

 

However Coldwar era soviet ships i do really love and respect, they were a whole wonder how they tranformed their naval fleet from a joke during ww2, to be something that made even american fleet rattle their jimmies.

 

but enough of that, yeah .

I doubt ill manage to get a chapayev before the season ends to begin with. all i've got is a Mogami n mr.Benson.

 

Issue with grinding RU ships isnt the ships itself, its the bloody commander points.

Russian cruisers are great up from tier6. If you like the Cleveland than you will love them.

Mogami really needs some love. But that said almost all cruisers do as they are not really relevant in the current meta beyond the occasional Radar.

This Season its mainly Bismarck vs Benson. Both bring enough utility to the table so that they basically negate every other ship.

So you're saying Mogami can be ground in Ranked with a full stealth build? Asking because I'm really not even close to Chapayev yet, so it's not an option to switch over. Plus, I'm grinding the Mogami as is.
