Thoughts on the new Epicenter mode?

I love it personally :great:

 

It forces aggression, the team that camps and sits back loses. I know the DD's rush the centre but even as a BB player I like doing the same thing and attempting to flush them out. Dem German secondaries are pretty decent yo!

Game starts, DDs have to go into the cap or lose it to the enemy. If they get spotted, the whole enemy team just focuses on them because "We all shoot at DDs" and the enemy haven't spread out at all.

Once the DDs are dead, maybe a Cruiser or BB tries to sidle into the cap. Enemy team focuses that guy, because the rest of his team is parked behind a rock.

 

Better to have maybe 3 or more possible epicentres on a map, and one gets revealed after 5 mins. That way, the teams have to spread out more to have some ships in position for the cap, but still close enough to reinforce when the epicentre is revealed. This way, DDs and Cruisers have more room to exploit and BBs who lemming train or YOLO get punished.

I like the mode.

Most of the time my team understood what to do. But it is a bit annoying when teammates stay far away from epicenter and watch when their team gets shot up.

I've said this before, I feel that epicenter needs a bit tweaking. As we all know, good portion of players are very, very afraid of capping. We just make a map where everything but the middle is cap zone. Like this:

No more border hugging, all those BBs sailing right into middle and start brawling.

Don't like it. Forced clusterf**k with almost no chance for a comeback. Killing is everything, caps do nothing apart from changing colour now and then. Relies even more on your teammates not being tomatos and dying like flies than the other modes.

Apart from tending to accelerate the confrontation, I don't see it as any different really. Like a basic capping game, no one is 'forced' to do anything; usually find the DDs contest the centre area, the other ships are a little closer in support, but as Negativvv states, you still get those ships camping. I don't mind the variety. :honoring:

Its not the best mode I ever played. The team with the DD advantage wins most of the time. Once your team losses all his DDs the game is as good as over. Would be funny if only BBs can cap the center and DDs and CA/CL are only meant to cap the outer rings.

 

A simple Deathmatch mode would be appreciated. No caps or whatsoever. Until the bitter end.

Doesn't work on tears of the desert at all. To much cover at the edges.

 

Strangely works OK on the map with cover in the middle

I think traditional cap is much better. Personally I would like a mode where you have one normal cap in the beginning and after 5 minutes new cap randomly appears in one of the remaining 3 possible places and 3rd in 10 min mark and 4th cap in 15 min mark.

Not the best mode ever. DD's YORO rush the center mostly to die within the first few minutes of the match. A lone cruiser or BB may push in, but overall the pace of the game is slow. Either have several capture points on the map that appear at a fixed time limit, or after one cap is taken. Also, place the cap somewhere that only DD's and fast cruisers can get in time at first.

Have had it four times and still to lose. It's ok but I am sure the number of pink DD's has gone up due to torps having more chance of missing or 1 of the spread hitting an enemy and the rest sailing on and catching a team mate, especially in the later part of the battle. All four battles I have seen at least one accidental teamkill/damage by torps. :) One was me after 5 of the spread hitting an enemy BB and the other damaging a team mate about 30's later. The perils of both teams mostly fighting in a circle.

Haven't seen this mode enough to form any real opinion yet. The idea is good. Problem is most players have no clue what is going on around them. At least, I don't see any difference in playstyle from most players. It is the same as in WoT with the different gamemodes. Most players don't even realize there are 3 different ones there. Yes, I am extremely cynical regarding the abilities of the general population.

I like the intent, but it doesn't really work. Partly because too many players have trained themselves "CAPS ARE SCARY PLACES, NEVER GO NEAR A CAP" but mostly because once one team captures a zone, it's nearly impossible to take it away from them without destroying their whole fleet first. This means that if neither team has too many campy players the outcome of the game is often decided in the first 30 seconds by the spawn points of the destroyers and whether their captains are awake and/or load slowly.

 

The times when it works are the times when neither team manages any caps, and there's simply an almighty brawl in the middle. Which is fun, unless you're in an Atlanta ;)

Hate it, usually a snowball whitewash that is decided by which team has the dumbest players, no real possibility for tactics or good plays to make a difference.

Would agree that it really is bad on tears of the desert.

 

Personally, not a huge fan in its current format as it relies too much on teamwork and since there isn't much teamwork in this game it can be frustrating.  Also, it requires a thorough understanding the game-mode and since a lot of the user-base is apparently really stupid (or wilfully just doesn't care about working as a team to secure a win) you either get too little support or you think you get it and then realise it evaporated because DD #2 went CV hunting or BBs #3, #4 and #5 are on the 1 line.

 

I do kind of like the idea though but changes need to be made including which maps it is on and if WG could change its approach of cap-zones-can-only-be-circular it could be improved.

 

Also DDs with poor detection are at a huge disadvantage with so many ships close together and it usually ends up with only the stealthy boats able to do much and too many ships sat literally unmoving behind an island.

 

Favourite class for this game mode?  CV because a good CV can be hugely influential in this game mode.

I share the convictions above. In theory the mode is good. in practice, i don't feel it is working as intended in the higher tier. The only time i have enjoyed the mode was in a tier 5 match. Generally you are fighting at a closer range anyway, so i feel it fits better, If there was an option to disable the mode, like in WOT, i think i would!

The idea was good but all I see are ships continuing to sit behind the islands and fiddle with themselves. If you dare try and contest the cap in your battleship you just end up hosting the annual community bonfire and barbecue on your decks.

the mode still needs work and people need to learn how to play it ... seeing a BB sail into the middle and then the ENTIRE red team shoot at it was impressive and depressing in equal measure. looked like this but in reverse!

my thoughts exactly, this map sucks, all players stay out of the center and as said a few times if you dare to come in you get the full hit. Would like to see game mode preferences to in- exclude gametypes/maps
